The Saudi Pro League (SPL), or Roshn Saudi League (RSL) as it’s currently known for sponsorship reasons, is one of the fastest-growing competitions in world football.

Most Fantasy managers will be conscious of it as a destination for leading assets from the Premier League and other top European competitions.

But for many others, it’s become another outlet for their Fantasy Football obsession – as they play the RSL Fantasy game (just launched for 2025/26)!

According to the organisers, over 500,000 managers were signed up last season, making it one of the top five played football-based Fantasy games in the world. Granted, that’s a long way short of the c.11M players boasted by FPL, and still a way off UCL Fantasy’s c.2M managers, but it’s more than engage with the official Bundesliga game (c.300K) and the Serie A Fantasy game, which sadly disappeared in the close season.

  • NOTE: Scout is not being paid to promote this game by the SPL/RSL

5 Reasons FPL players may fancy giving RSL Fantasy a go

1. Cold Hard Cash

Part of the reason for the popularity and why you may be interested in giving it a go is the generous prize structure on offer.

Where many Fantasy games offer quite simple prizes (match tickets, shirts, balls, etc), last year RSL Fantasy had a sizable cash pool of 500,000 SAR (around £100,000 GBP at current exchange rates), with half of that 250,000 SAR on offer for the winner alone. There were also weekly prizes, including iPhone 15 Max’s awarded to the top performing managers. This year’s prizes have not been finalised, but we’d expect them to be generous.

And of course, there’s also the FFS league to compete in, slightly more modest on the £££ front perhaps (see below), but certainly not lacking prestige!

2. Familiar-ish Rules

Another bonus is the broad similarity to the rule system of FPL. The game is run by ISM, the same people behind the FPL game, and has many similar core principles

It’s a season-long game, with changing player prices and points for goals, assists, clean sheets, etc. Although for the 2025/26 season, it’s added a lot more routes to points (see our impending introductory rules article for more on that!).

3. Familiar players

3pm team news: Watkins starts, Toney a sub 6

Naturally, no introductions are needed to the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Sadio Mane, Aleksandar Mitrovic or Ivan Toney, but the volume of familiar names is increasing all the time.

The summer we’ve seen Liverpool’s Darwin Nunez and Theo Hernandez from AC Milan joining Al Hilal, Chelsea’s Joao Felix and Bayern’s Kingsley Coman moving to Al Nassr, Alexandre Lacazette from Lyon to Neom SC and Mateo Retegui to Al Qadsiah.

4. Distinct Deadlines

For the most part, the Saudi league deadlines are earlier in the week than FPL, and later than UCL, typically on a Thursday or Friday (starting on Thursday 28 August). That means it won’t interfere too much with your final FPL planning!

5. FFScout is on hand to help!

Exciting changes to Fantasy Football Scout!

We’ll be running regular editorial content throughout the season as well as a guide to the key things you need to know in the remaining two weeks before the first deadline on Thursday August 28.

This will include weekly scout picks, captaincy articles and fixture frisking for all comers. Meanwhile, Chief Scout members will benefit from team reveals from top SPL managers, plus some Statsbomb data in the Members Area and likely a few other tools as well!*

(*N.B. This season, this will be a totally free addition as part of the existing FFS Chief Scout membership, as we will also be offering for UCL Fantasy. Due to the costs of data and editorial creation, we may need to separate these in the future).

Join the FFS League

You won’t be buying a fancy car or a small house if you win our mini-league, but you will get plenty of kudos and there’s over £550 worth of prize value up for grabs (see below).

MINI-LEAGUE PRIZE LIST: Over £550 of prize value!

  • 1st – £150 cash
  • 2nd – £100 cash
  • 3rd – £50 cash
  • 4th – Annual Chief Scout Membership
  • 5th – Annual Chief Scout Membership
  • 6th – 3x Months Membership
  • 7th – 3x Months Membership
  • 8th – 1x Month Membership
  • 9th – 1x Month Membership
  • 10th – 1x Monthly Membership

And just to be clear, none of this means there’ll be ANY departure from FPL. We’ve invested more than ever this season to overhaul the Members Area and tools and have our largest-ever team of staff writers and Pro Pundits devoted to providing you insights to help you win your mini-leagues, fuel banter and generally get the most out of your FPL season!

We’ll also be building in a new filter system shortly, which will allow those who just want to hear about certain games to filter their front pages accordingly.

Want to get involved? We have contributors on board, but we’re always interested in hearing more viewpoints, so get in touch: jobs@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk

@Tom purely curious, was this decision taken before or after you guys covered the CWC? Wondering if those articles did well amongst users you wouldn't usually reach.

As mentioned previously I don't disagree with the premise of trying SPL coverage, just hope it's implemented sensibly.

Hi, yeah we are always looking a new games, like EFL last year. SPL has been on radar for a while due to its large player base, it also has a lot more players than CWC did.

As a business, we are always looking to grow and take new opportunities in an increasingly competitive space. Like Chris said, this doesn't use our FPL resources/take away from our FPL content. We are Fantasy Football Scout after all!

As mentioned, an article filter will be live soon so you don't have see non-FPL content if you don't want to!

I guess you have to cater for your paying audience.

Was about to say would rather have more help getting into the other European leagues' competitions but then it would be cannibalising FFC.

Genuinely think it's a mistake from the Pro League. Fantasy games are about engagement with the originating competition. It's an even bigger irrelevance now.
