Gameweek 1 of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) rather inconveniently got in the way of our transfer round-ups.

With a bit of midweek respite, it’s time to switch our attention back to the Premier League’s latest new signings.

We’ll have some full Scout Reports on the most notable incomings over the last week or so to come.

But now, a quick round-up of some of the other recent acquisitions.

Jackson Tchatchoua (Hellas Verona to Wolves, £10.8m)

Wolverhampton Wanderers have bolstered their defence with the signing of Jackson Tchatchoua (£4.5m) from Hellas Verona.

The Cameroon international enjoyed his best season to date last season when he missed only two matches for the Serie A side due to suspension.

Tchatchoua started out as a right winger with Charleroi before being converted to a right-back in his second season in Belgium. At Verona, he was deployed as a right wing-back, where he became a first-team fixture last season.

He is versatile enough to play on both flanks, having played once at left-back, nine times in left midfield and four times as a left winger.

Tchatchoua

Stats from Transfermarkt

But with left wing-back David Moller Wolfe (£4.5m) already captured in the summer, it’s clear where Tchatchoua is going to operate.

A right wing-back was a priority signing for Wolves manager Vitor Pereira following the departure of Nelson Semedo in the summer.

Ki-Jana Hoever (£4.0m) has been used there in pre-season, and indeed in Gameweek 1, but it was always expected that reinforcements would arrive on the right flank. This move obviously spells bad news for the budget Hoever’s game-time.

Last season, Tchatchoua scored twice and made three assists for Verona. Three assists might not seem like a lot but he created 34 chances in the Italian top flight, a tally that would have ranked him joint-11th among FPL defenders in 2024/25.

The Cameroonian also scooped the Frecciarossa award, so named after the high-speed train (the ‘red arrow’) and awarded to the fastest player in Serie A, for clocking 36.3km/h.

Pereira will hope he has landed upon the new Rayan Ait-Nouri (£6.0m), only on the opposite flank.

“I learned a lot on the defensive phase, the tactics, I have learned a lot about them. In Italy, you have a lot of big teams, a lot of big matches, and I think in England it’s the same. We have lot of good teams there.

“In Italy, you have a lot of exertions because every match is difficult. I think it’s a good step before the Premier League, being focused on this. – Jackson Tchatchoua

Jacob Ramsey (Aston Villa to Newcastle United, £40m)

Ramsey can provide cheaper route into Aston Villa attack

Newcastle have completed the signing of midfielder Jacob Ramsey (£5.5m) from Aston Villa for £40m.

Having been knocked back in their bids for various players this summer, the Magpies are suddenly on a roll, having landed a midfielder to follow the arrivals of Aaron Ramsdale (£5.0m) and Malick Thiaw (£5.0m).

Ramsey was a brilliant budget buy when he broke into the Villa side in the 2020/21 season, priced at £4.5m. He returned 109 points that campaign (six goals and one assist) and bettered that the following season with 135, repeating his goal tally but adding seven more assists to his previous season’s haul.

Injury slowed the progress of the box-crashing midfielder thereafter, reducing his starts to only eight the following campaign. He started on only 19 occasions in 2024/25, too, being brought on as a sub in a further 10 fixtures. With Morgan Rogers (£7.5m) nailed, Ramsey – almost exclusively used as a left winger last season – was reliant on the versatile Rogers being shifted elsewhere in the attack.

Tchatchoua

Above: Ramsey was way down the list of Villa midfielders for minutes per xGI last season

While Unai Emery fancied him on the left flank, might Ramsey be used in midfield at Newcastle? The Magpies are already well stocked on the left wing with Harvey Barnes (£6.5m), Anthony Gordon (£7.5m) and even youngster Park Seung-soo (£4.5m).

In midfield, less so. Sean Longstaff (£5.0m) is gone, while Joe Willock (£5.0m) – as he so often is – is injured. Lewis Miley (£4.5m), still a teenager, is the only back-up they’ve got in midfield right now.

Ramsey will likely start off life on the bench at Newcastle, then, as many new recruits do. Newcastle do have the demands of a Champions League campaign to deal with this season, however, so Ramsey should get minutes eventually. Given his unremarkable goal/assist output in recent years, he’s got a long way to go before we can speak about him in the same breath as the similarly priced Tijjani Reinders (£5.6m).

Dominic Calvert-Lewin (Unattached to Leeds United, free)

Lateriser: Two options for selling Calvert-Lewin

Leeds United are hoping they have landed a bargain after signing Dominic Calvert-Lewin (£5.5m) on a free transfer.

The 28-year-old ran down his contract at Everton last season after spending nine years at Goodison Park but has had an injury-ravaged career since his 2020/21 heyday, when he scored 16 goals in 33 appearances.

Tchatchoua

Above: Calvert-Lewin’s recent struggle for minutes and returns

Of course, we should remember that when fit to play, Calvert-Lewin has been feeding off the scraps of teams managed by the likes of Duncan Ferguson, Rafa Benitez, Sean Dyche and David Moyes. Nevertheless, one suspects DCL’s best days are behind him.

Like Everton sides of recent years, Leeds will probably also be in a relegation dogfight this season.

If he can stay fit, £5.5m might not be a terrible price for a player who has four goals and 11 caps for England.

But with Joel Piroe (£5.5m) and Lukas Nmecha (£5.0m) as competition, first he has to simply establish himself in the starting XI.

Giovanni Leoni (Parma to Liverpool, £26m)

Liverpool have signed 18-year-old centre-back Giovanni Leoni (£5.0m) from Parma in a deal worth £26 million plus add-ons.

The reigning champions beat off competition from a host of leading Italian clubs and several Premier League rivals to secure the signature of Leoni, who has signed a six-year contract.

Leoni’s age suggests that his recruitment is a long-term move but there are no plans to farm the teenager out on loan.

Leoni made his senior debut for Padova at just 16 years of age in the 2022/23 season and moved to Sampdoria in February 2024, making 12 appearances and scoring once in Serie B before joining Parma ahead of their Serie A return.

He became Parma’s youngest defender to score in Serie A, with a header against Cagliari last season, aged 18 years and 50 days. He won over 60% of his duels and 63% of aerial challenges in 2024–25, registering an 88.7% passing accuracy.

He is comfortable with both feet, so could possibly deputise on either side – as the Opta image below shows:

is known for reading the game well and is known to be a tough competitor, but with Marc Guehi (£4.5m) potentially on his way to join Ibrahima Konate (£5.5m) and Virgil van Dijk (£6.0m), he’s an avoid at £5.0m.

Nordi Mukiele (Paris Saint-Germain to Sunderland, £9.5m)

Sunderland have continued their transfer-market spree with the acquisition of Nordi Mukiele (£4.0m) from Paris Saint-Germain for £9.5m.

Mukiele is an experienced campaigner who has played for RB Leipzig, PSG and Bayer Leverkusen, where he spent last season on loan. The 27-year-old made 15 league appearances last term, scoring once, and played five times in the Champions League, where he also produced a goal and an assist.

A versatile player, Mukiele can play at right back, in right midfield, at centre-back or as a right wing-back, so will be able to slot into a variety of defensive permutations Regis Le Bris might decide to deploy. The likeliest scenario is him being a challenger for Trai Hume (£4.5m) at right-back but he may also threaten man-of-the-moment Dan Ballard‘s (£4.5m) minutes.

The Frenchman is quick and good in the air, and adept at dribbling and getting to the byline when playing as a full-back. He ranked fourth for dribbles per 90 minutes for full-backs in the Bundesliga last season, third for offensive duels and fourth for deep completed crosses.

According to FBref, he featured in the top seven percentile for shots per 90 minutes from Bundesliga full-backs, too.

Another £4.0m defender to monitor as the Sunderland defence gets ready to settle down for the new season.

Would Hub have bothered to have written an encyclopedia of preseason content to help us with our gameweek 1 teams?

No they just make all their money from people who want access to Crellin's team so they can copy it.

How many of the links you used are behind the FFScout paywall? During preseason I got frustrated with continually clicking on articles only to get 10% of them. I was a paying subscriber for about 15 years, but decided the subscription is no longer value for money (albeit better than Hub and its phony AI). Last year, I'd linger on this site because enough of the articles were readable, but the amount I'm blocked out of has got to a point where it's hardly worth logging on and joining in the chat any more. There's plenty of free stuff that suits my FPL needs; I don't need to hang around where I'm not wanted.

If you bothered to spend some serious time in the members area, you'll know there are literally hundreds of thousands of stats to analyse and to keep you busy. So there's very little need to leave the basement.

I support Liverpool. I've been to a few football matches several years ago but can no longer afford a ticket.

You should take the money and run given his injury record. He's only going to miss more and more of the season as he gets older.

                            What a load of bollocks.

Him and Hojlund have a vastly different career trajectory. Isak played managed 105 caps at Sociedad scoring 32 times after coming in from BVB (experience from Spain and Germany). Many teams were interested before Newcastle brought him into the Premier League, widely considered now as one of the best in the world with a 150m price tag on his head. Hojlund was a bet Manchester United were willing to take. Only one full year in Serie A (scoring 9 goals) with previous experience from Austria and Denmark.

Apparently Gyokeres had a similar gentleman's agreement - but the agreement involved a 65 million price tag. Newcastle's agreement over price tag is 150m. Did Isak ever consider hsi price when extending, and do his agents and the suitors realize this is what it takes to get him?

With all of this going on why did Ekitike end up at Liverpool? Seems like they snatched Isak's replacement even before getting him. Isak's camp and Liverpool have been very awkward with this unless Liverpool eventually aren't getting involved at all. Feels like they could afford him with all the sales they've done, but they'll need to rack up that 150m price tag or Newcastle will be happy to keep.

That's the part that gets me - if Isak was to throw his toys out of the pram, why didn't he do it before Liverpool doled out for Ekitike, enabling the latter to smoothly move to Newcastle? Isak's management agency screwed up there.

Apparently he let Newcastle know ages before the window opened. Liverpool won't pay their valuation, it's as simple as that really.

Doubt anything happens until after they play each other, but the pressure is really on Liverpool more than anything. They've had no links to other players, and they have form for not signing alternatives if they can't get their targets. If the deal doesn't happen, they'll be going into the season with only 3 attackers - 1 of which who'll be going to AFCON (not counting Chiesa)

I don't think Liverpool is under any pressure at all - Ekitike made sure of that last Friday. They hadn't originally planned on buying Isak until the opportunity unexpectedly arose over the summer. The pressure is on Newcastle - they may have the lolly to pay his wages while he trains with the kids, but it surely blocks moves to strengthen the squad due to PSR.

They've lost Diaz, Jota and Nunez, and only brought in Ekitike. They'll lose Salah for a few weeks in January before we even talk about injuries.

If Isak doesn't move in the summer, he'll be welcomed back into the squad and that'll be that. Newcastle won't feel the need to sell at all.

Not so sure about who said what and when. It's a bit strange that he took part in all the photo shoots and video promos for this season's new kits, if he thought he had an agreement to leave.

Just going on what him / his representatives have said. Garnacho, Antony and Sancho have all appeared in marketing materials despite being frozen out of the squad, so I wouldn't use that as a base for anything.

As I say, we don't know. Isak's statement talked about broken promises - probably about a new contract not happening last summer, and maybe the fact that the project hasn't advanced as quickly as Staveley sold it to new signings.

Newcastle's statement made it clear that the club hadn't told him that he could leave this summer.

For what it's worth, I'd sell if Liverpool actually came in with an acceptable offer. I don't want a player who wants out. We then need to accept that we'll overpay for two new strikers.

I thought the issue was that he was promised XYZ but all the people who made those promises (Staveley, Ashworth, etc) are no longer at the club to make good on them. Bit of a messy situation, so I don't think it's fair to label him a "rat" (I know that wasn't you)

I think that's very fair - Newcastle have set a price and Liverpool are miles off it. Let's be honest, he's not going to sit in the reserves all season - he'll be reintegrated when the window shuts and life will go on. We've seen it before with other players - there's too much money involved for the situation to ever be truly untenable.

Honestly I would be very tempted but monitor Frimpong and Tosin situations. BB is way overrated and just getting it out of the way makes sense. You'll realistically use the BB to play fodder backline + fodder mid/fwd and with the Burnley fixture this week it just makes sense. I would rather take 6 points from the bench now than maybe hope for 10+ later down the line. Playing it now saves you from having to spend more money on the bench and make transfers/WC just to get a bit better bench for 1 week.

We will have two bench boosts this season. There aren't going to be any dgws in the first half of the season (1st BB period) unless some games get cancelled due to unforeseen events e.g. weather.

Save the ft? Also play the BB. Really feel like this is the best BB I can get this half of the season without playing a WC. Playing it out now and then being able to focus on the starting 11 just makes sense to me. I know Guiu might not play at all but other than that everyone should be nailed. Would rather take like 6 points now from the bench than maybe 10+ but having had to possibly spend more money on the bench and transfers/WC.

I don't know. The other ones on the bench should. If Guiu even gets an appereance point I'd be happy. With this BB I'd be aiming for 7 points. Anything more would be a plus, anything less I wouldn't really care. Planning for the "perfect" BB just takes away from your total points in the long run more imo than just getting a few odd points from it now.

If Burnley pull off a clean sheet the BB is well on.

It's that simple and they are capable of it.

Will obviously be another racuous occasion with the traveling fans but Burnley are at home and have shown positive signs.

Isak will play zero mins of football this season the way he's going. he might be in the right who knows but careers are short. so many footballers have been in this situation-Rooney-Suarez to name two but they did not burn so many bridges that playing again for the club didnt become untenable. theres no way back now for him. his fitness will fall away, he will scare off potential suitors. whoever is advising him needs to be fired.

Isak has been ill-advised. He is in a poor negotiating position. Three years left on his contract, Liverpool do not desperately need him (in fact, after that Ekitike match I would be scrambling to retract my statements about no longer playing for Newcastle).
Newcastle could lose a lot of money, but if they let him have his way, they would lose even more, in terms of setting a dangerous precedent for their future players to follow and showing that they are push-overs.

Few, if any, can be deemed 'significant' in my view. I'm glad I started with Reinjders, regret not dumping Palmer and going with a Salah/Haaland double, but in terms of anything learned, maybe the only ones are just how bad West Ham are and how potent the United attack will be in time. But again, Potter might rectify the problematic one over the next couple of GWs.

West ham arent as bad as people make out, for sure bottom 6 but they only gave up very low percentage chances to Sunderland. Another day a competent goalkeeper gets a cleansheet and the narrative is different

Friday nigth under the lights Can easily see them hold Chelsea 0 or 1 goals.

I'm going to stick with him. He saved my GW1. For 4.0, and with Leeds not looking bad (or as bad as last year's promoted sides), he's a good option from the bench for creating budget elsewhere.

Is anyone playing the Bet365 free fantasy football game?

                There's about 65,000 entries I think.

I gave it a miss last year and it was tricky enough to work through the functionality for team selection last week.

Now when I go to do one FT with the Change Team green button it removes the whole squad for a 56 pointer or offers a wildcard. Can't see the way around it, to do just 1 FT.

                Finally, a new article.

Not great but good to know who might be on the next template. A bit like in the previous article which was based on the classic behaviour of the majority of players, I.e. buy previous points late.

No words about Crystal Palace, who have one of the best managers in the league, who played a decent pre-season, who haven't lost yet any key players, who have played amazingly well against Liverpool and Chelsea juat recently, etc.

But people are selling Mateta based on the created hype around Ekiteke, who was lucky to score that ping pong goal. Otherwise, everybody would be talking about Gakpo.

"buy previous points late" is a bit of an overstatement - many if not all of the most transferred-in players are not bad picks moving forward
Mateta being sold by 72000 out of almost a million owners is hardly a fire sale

                    Why is that an overstatement?

The top 5 players transferred in all hauled in GW1. If you add them now for GW2 you are still not getting the points from GW1. You can only hope that they can repeat the GW1 results in the short term. That is possible but not guaranteed.

I'm not saying that all these players are bad picks, but there are probably better picks that no one is talking about inn articles, pod casts, etc. It is always the same. It is easier to "sell" Semenyo now than before the Liverpool game. Or Ballard. Or....

yea i hope palace go strong tomorrow and just get the tie done, so they can rest most first teamers before villa. as long as they lose only 1 of eze/guehi dont think there will be that much of a drop off after international break

Stressing abit about free hit if anyone can give me their opinion id appreciate it,

                  The 3 potential FH weeks i think are 2, 4 or 6,
i already have haaland so 6 is pointless for me,
salah would be nice for fh4 however haaland also has united at home so i wouldnt want to remove him, meaning i would be making a fh with both which could limit how good the rest is
gw2 seems the most viable as i have zero arsenal players and a lot of my players have away fixtures this week,

what do you guys think? am i missing another week later on in the year which i should wait for? or just send gw2

what about GW3? Do you have united players? Also allows liverpool to come out and then have them back for GW4?

Is that just a fixtures take?

A free hit could also be useful in December with injuries and suspensions to overcome.

Especially if you use an early wildcard.

yeah im just trying to plan it around fixtures atm as i obviously cant predict when my players might get injuries or suspensions, i do like the idea of just waiting and seeing if a time comes in the future where i have lots of injuries but if that never happens i couldve missed a good opportunity to use it

I'm thinking of doing an early wildcard after the transfer window shuts and across the international break, so I'll keep FH in my back pocket.

If you have a wildcard saved for longer, it makes the early FH an option.

I wouldn't FH for one fixture tho. It would need to be at least half of the team.

Im on WC after a very good start.

Here is my current draft with all the latest updates on Isak, tactics (Palmer position) , Attacking trends (BOU and LIV) and who may become a bargain (Ait- Nouri + Cucu > but an easy switch to Gvardiol + VVD when needed)

Lots of nice rotation cover for difficult fixtures

                  Dubravka
                  Ait-Nouri, Gabriel, Cucu
                  Saka Reindeer Gakpo Semenyo
                  Haaland (c) Evanilson Ekitike

Sels, Neco Williams, King , Gudmonsson

Dont see any obvious misses , Saka will go to a United mid for BUR (H) in week 3.

Semenyo (C) if Kluivert is still out?

                  - Don't trust Haaland v Frank's away formation.
                  - Not getting Arsenal cover for one GW, they're away to Liverpool in GW3.
                  - Don't own Salah. Ekitike?

Look at Spurs home to Burnley, they gave up loads of chances to Burnley close to the 6 yard box. I can see 3 or 4 city goals if they play that midfield again.

Brentford last season were the same at home under Frank BUT look at their results v the big 6 away. The crucial factor: never heavily beaten.

                      I'm going Semenyo.

That was a Frank coached team over many years in a working system.

Spurs just lost 4-0 to Bayern in preseason a few weeks ago. Their midfield is just not there yet, can for sure see them be solid longterm. PSG had just come back and no preseason so i think people overesitimate spurs defence. Burnley!!! put up over 1xG at the weekend. City will easily double that.

Cant see less than 2-3 City goals with Gray and Bergvall in the midfield. City will kill them.

I'm sure Gyokores would have started anyway, but just a note that Merino can sub on - and Trossard was caught practising as the forward in training today. Won't necessarily be getting 90 mins just because of the Havertz situation.

                    Good afternoon folks.

                    Sanchez
                    Milenkovic Richards Esteve
                    Salah Palmer Bruno Anderson Reijnders
                    Watkins Pedro
                    Dubravka / Murillo Porro Guiu

                    - Bench Porro? (Leaning yes?)
                    - Start Milenkovic or Murillo?
                    - Start Sanchez or Dubravka?
                    - BB not worth it, I feel.

Richards plays as higher CS odds than Forest. Same for Esteve.

I'm not sure on the captain yet.

No way I'd play Esteve over Murillo or Porro. I'd probably go Murillo.

Team looks fine. Boring but fine.

I'd still consider it given the CS odds. We don't hold a crystal ball.

Strange 'boring' comment though mate. You've got 8 of the same players of me, and of the rest:

                        Sanchez vs Sels
                        Guiu vs Ekitike
                        Bruno vs Sarr
                        Anderson vs PM Sarr

                        Milenkovic vs Diouf
                        Esteve vs Rodon
                        Richards vs Tosin

Yours don't exactly scream excitement either.

Diouf has rubbish fixtures in an underperforming team, Tosin is injured. Rodon not great fixtures either. Both our keepers are template. Anderson vs PM Sarr are similar and scored the same. I chose not to go with Ekitike & Sarr due to effect of transfer market (+ Palace EL).

Just feels like sensible picks that I planned out to not have to force an early transfer?

I'd double up on NFO personally over Esteve, Sunderland looked good. Your team has lots of potential, a lot of players that other teams rage transferred out that can repay the faith big time.

Thanks. They don't actually give any reasoning, but I'm aware they do post analysis of others so would respect there is some.

But entirely possible Porro in a wing-back position does well too. Looked good vs. PSG playing there & think he even scored vs City before.

At the end of the day I just expect City will score.

He’s enough of a differential just owning him. Especially if you are capping Haaland.

Because the thing is he is afterall still not good in gw1 as we can see. Whereas watkins and haaland is still the safest and well known in premier league.
So this capt is like a bit of punt as you can see.
                            Do you see the point?

Watkins was not good in GW1 either. If you're writing off Gyokeres after blanking in a fixture Arsenal often struggle in, before the fixture you probably got him in for, I ask again - what was the point?

It all depends how risk averse you are as a manager. I own Gyokeres but I’m not going to cap him without seeing him do something.

Ok well I specifically showed him because he felt like a good punt. 25% ownership is a differential in my view and most of the content creators are dissuading people from taking him. Haaland is still a better captain against Spurs. If you want to cap him, do it but don’t pretend it’s anything more than a massive punt.

It's a punt for sure, but so was getting him in the first place with Arsenal's attacking issues. This is obviously the fixture most selected him (and other Arsenal assets for) so not sure why you wouldn't double down on him considering there's no real standout captain choice this week.

Because it’s a punt on top of a punt. It’s not as clear cut as you’re saying. Haaland is the obvious pick for any owners.

You say cowardice not to, I say blind stupidity to overlook Haaland as the captain. You do you.

I haven't got Gyokeres or Haaland, and I don't really care what others do

                                        Maybe cool it slightly then?

                    A. Ekitike > Richarlison
                    B. Wood > Richarlison
                    C. Neither

Why would you sell either Ekitike or Wood? Insanity. Just keep.

Even Richarlison's dad would do C.
