When compared to the vast majority of sides that have previously been promoted from the Championship, Blackpool’s impact in the Premier League has been a real breath of fresh air. Pre-season, most talk was centred around Ian Holloway and how -somewhat patronisingly- the Seasiders’ boss would bring a “bit of character” to the top division, but the first seven gameweeks have seen his team’s on-pitch performances grab the headlines instead.

Central to the team’s success has been the club’s playmaker Charlie Adam. The ex-Rangers man currently sits on 38pts in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game, the third-highest scoring midfielder in the game so far, behind only Florent Malouda and Nani. A breakdown of his points shows Adam has scored 2 goals, made 2 assists and has 9 Bonus Points, being awarded the maximum 3 on 3 occasions, including the club’s last game, the 2-1 win at Anfield, where he bagged a penalty. In terms of midfielders, only Mikel Arteta can match this as a Bonus “darling”.

A look at our OPTA Stats, showing Adam’s involvement in the games, may explain why this is. Only three players have saw more of the ball; his 616 “Touches” is more than the likes of Arteta and Steven Gerrard and just five behind Paul Scholes. His 15 “Shots at Goal” have him in the top ten midfielders, and defensive-wise, he’s also in the top ten midfielders for “Duels”, “Aerial Duels”, “Loose Ball Recoveries” and “Blocks”. Added to the fact he’s on set-pieces and penalties, and it becomes clearer to see exactly not just how influential Adam is for Blackpool, but, perhaps, how eye-catching he may be to the Bonus Point judges.

With most people expecting Graham Dorrans to be the main Fantasy option from the promoted sides, thanks to Holloway’s attacking ethos, Adam has subsequently out-shone his fellow Scot by some margin already. Blackpool’s approach to games has meant that, despite playing five of their first seven matches away from home, they tend to get amongst the goals, with only Chelsea and Arsenal keeping clean sheets against Holloway’s men so far.

Adam comes in at just £5.2m and is owned by 9% of FPL managers so far. Such a low price means that, in terms of “Value“, he is joint-top, with West Brom’s Peter Odemwingie. Blackpool now have four of their seven fixtures at home (MCY, bir, WBA, EVE, avl, whm, WOL) though judging by their displays so far, it almost seems an irrelevance as to what ground their fixtures are played on. The one constant that does flow through them, however, is the Fantasy potential of Charlie Adam.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Surely its best to split your bets and not put all your eggs in one basket. Im a United fan and our form has been inconsistent at best. Surely in Tevez, City's captain and set piece/pk taker, theres a great potential for returns in the next 6 games (4 of which are B'pool, Wolves, WBA and B'ham).

I'm going to post this again, because I can:

Malouda / VDV, stats are per start (6 / 4)

    Touches: 79.5 / 68.8
    Key Passes: 3.2 / 1.5
    Through Balls 0.7 / 1.3
    Pass Opp Half 34.3 / 24.3
    Succ. Crosses 0.5 / 1.0
    Goals: 1.0 / 0.8
    Shots 3.2 / 4.3
    On Target: 1.3 / 2.3
    Set Piece Shot 0.2 / 1.3
    Succ. Corners 1.0 / 0.3

Malouda has got all his points through goals, but VDV’s shooting stats are phenominal, plus he’s on free kicks, plus he’ll hog the boni. They both have some rough fixtures, but I don’t see why VDV won’t at least match Mal for points.

short term he is a bargain, but opinion on here is that he will only be "safe" for 2 games or so, at which point Pienaar will displace him from midfield and either Neville or Hibbert will take the RB spot, leaving him benched

50/50 for me with both against tough opposition. Bale is undoubtedly the man in form even though it hasn't lead to high points lately in the fantasy league. But Bolton have the home advantage. Would probably edge on Petrov as I cannot see many goals with Fulham away

Just noticed that paraguay played New Zealand yesterday. Anyone think that's going to affect the availability of the likes of Alcaraz this weekend? Not sure if there's a jetlag precedent on the timescale of playing in New Zealand and then playing a few days later in the Premiership.

no, it's his typical drama. if anything mancini has given him the captain's armband this season to ensure that he steps up given his responsibility to the team. I think he's the only person that has his place cemented in which the team is set to revolve around. w/the return of balotelli, i see adebayor being brushed aside though.

When 100% fit I would say that he is a guaranteed starter, but we really can't predict what Mancini will do to any defree of certainty. I am going for Boateng on WC this week just to be safe for the moment, and even then, he had flu so is a doubt. Boateng and Kolarov are the better options to Man City anyway, just how Europa League and the Cups interfere with that is anyones guess

Not true. He's City's captain. Okay, so he might be a little bit whiny, but he's doing just fine as captain at the moment. City are second, and he's been scoring goals. He won't get rotated or dropped unless he gets injured.

I have Elmo/Simpson/Fab/Nani/VDV/Adam/Drogba in my WC too.

Kolarov is unlikely to be ready for this weekend accorinding to latest tweets etc, so I have gone for Boateng who is now a slight doubt having gotten the flu at the weekend. Cole is a great substitute for Malouda, and I will be looking at him when Chelsea's fixtures ease up a little in a few weeks. Coleman I would stay a mile away from, I had him in too until a couple of days and figured, on advice from Everton fans here, that Neville and Hibbert will fight for the RB spot with him, and he will be displaced from midfield once Pienaar comes back.

Sweet midfield, I am tempted by Arteta too.

I have flirted with the 2 cheapies and Drogba strikeforce too, and may decide on that ultimately, at the moment, I am might punt on Rooney and Drogba.

Coleman I would replace with Jara as a cost saver so you have 1m in the bank, Kolarov is a gamble, but might pay off, other than that, can't argue

well all, ive had cole from the start, the best differential in the game.

i prob go with Huth over coleman- had shawcross, and despite fistures, getting Huth in is something ive wanted- in every game ive seen for stoke, which has been a few, he's nearly scored in pretty much all of them!

I was looking at the Opta Stats with regard to Goal Threat this morning and was amazed to see Huth second only to Bale on attempts on goal, 10 attempts, 2 on target and 1 that hit the woodwork

How can the highest scoring and most selected defender in the entire game be a differential?

Almost 600 000 players own him.

Well I would say not too many active players and around where me you and RBJ are, are a part of that 600k, so he would be sort of a differential over proper rivals.

But the highest scoring and most selected defender is picked in 1000s in the top 20k.

      good defence though suspect strikeforce
actually your defence is so good u can comfortably start all five defenders but i think that u might miss malouda as the fixtures suggest that malouda can outscore VDV in next 5
however i am happy to see that the teamms of this sites members are now becoming more diverse e.g. mine is very deferent
      from yours but equally strong

easier to read posts posted like this dude:

        Keeper
        Defenders
        Midfielders
        Strikers

Albrighton and Torres are injury doubts for the weekend, and I think Torres is just too much of a liability at the moment for his price tag, bar Konchesky, that's a good team, I just really don't trust Liverpool!

ok, that's a good move, but you've got real defensive problems heading into this week w/alex out and konchesky in a tough derby if he plays and o'shea questionable to play. leaves you w/faye away to start, alex on bench and start w/o'shea, but you might get stuck w/auto sub to konchesky. w/out any other transfers go w/3-5-2 w/dembele, alex and konchesky on bench to start- sorry to say, could be an ugly week for you unless your mids really produce. capt. choice is vital for you.
