This was a Gameweek littered with outstanding performances, particularly in midfield where the array of talent jostling for spots in our squad now presents a major headache. This week’s bumper edition of “Big Numbers” for members carries out the usual exploration of the stats behind the Gameweek, with midfield options across all the price brackets gaining momentum and our keen interest…

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    A) Lescott to Vermaelen
    B) Lescott to Gibbs
    C) DDG to Foster
    D) Graham to Berbatov
    E) Silva to Ben Arfa
    F) Silva to Yaya

Choose the best one or two which will benefit me the most for the coming gwks

Sagna coming back from long term injury. Nailed on for now and very cheap. I'd look at others for 5.5.

    Important information

After review by the Press Association the following assists have been changed: The Norwich goal from Russell Martin to Grant Holt, the first Wigan goal from James McArthur to James McCarthy.
Deadline day signings will be added on Monday.
If you now have more than three players from one team, the next time you try and make transfers, you will need to make your squad comply with the rules of three per team.

I hate the game weeks where I don't have someone that looks essential, especially when I'm holding on to a wild card. That said, deep down I know it's because I'm bored and making changes is fun. 🙂

    This game week I had:

    de Gea (Federici)
    Rangel, Hangeland, Cuellar, Zabaleta (Clyne)
Pienaar, Michu, Kagawa, Yaya Toure (Hazard)
    Tevez, Petric (Torres)

What I WANT to have (and could with a WC) is:

    Foster, Jaaskelainen
    Rangel, Hangeland, Cuellar, Jagielka, Clyne
Pienaar, Michu, Nolan, Yaya Toure, Hazard
    Tevez, Berbatov, Van Persie

I'm not going to WC unless convinced, because I know that really, my team is in pretty good shape, but damn... the temptation!

I'm going into the International break without playing my wildcard, but seeing almost everyone around here deploying their WCs - most who are in an even better position than I am - is a little disconcerting...

I most definitely want RVP for GW4 onwards, as I can see Utd and RVP scoring well in all of their games, especially the 'perceived' tougher ones (with the exception of Newcastle away, I'm not sure about that one)... but I can't get him and keep Chelsea attacking coverage (Torres) without taking a 4pt hit... (that would mean swapping Graham for RVP and losing Baines for a 4.0m def)

I can afford a straight swap Torres > RVP, but that leaves me without Chelsea coverage for (qpr STO ars NOR) which actually looks very tempting... I'm not sure that this is the correct move...

Regardless, I probably won't make this free transfer/4pt hit until after the break is over (by which time RVP could be 13.5-13.6)

I did have a question but I've decided not to ask it, instead I'd like to know what other people would do in this situation, would you do the straight swap and go without Chelsea coverage or take the hit for RVP and lose Baines, to have Torres, Tevez, RVP upfront?

Thanks, and apologies for what now seems like a longer than expected post...

Probably not. RVP only seems essential right now after the hatrick and with Wigan at home next. Aguero and Rooney should be back by Gw5 which will create way more variation among teams here.

I would take the hit. Dont think Torres is all that despite his start and have a feeling that qpr could beat Chelsea on gw4. RVP will score at least once against wigan and you could lose a lot of ground if you dont have him. Realistically who do you want in long term RVP or Torres?

Yep I'm almost certain to keep the WC, but will only consider an 8pt hit at most to get the team I'd like before price rises knock it out of my reach...

I can get RVP and Hazard in my team for an 8pt hit, but all these moves require me to downgrade Baines, whom I just got in...

I don't really want to do that, cos I like his fixtures until GW14...

      A) I would be surprised if RVP is 13.6, I have a feeling people will be finding it hard to get him in their team unless they wildcard. But then there is a lot of loonies out there who will do anything.

      B) I think Baines is certainly a player you have faith in or don't bother having him, suppose you need to make that decision

      C) Torres is hard to transfer for those games, you're right

      D) I'm constantly debating whether to play my wildcard, I'd really really like to keep it in order to utilise it at a better time than this, the value is what will kill me really. I'm hoping I can sit tight until GW4 is over and then assess things. The problem right now is there's so many transfers I'd love to do but I'm forced to get Hazard out of fear basically.

All good points... I like Baines' scoring potential with good fixtures until GW14, but it they don't come, and with CS at a premium, I can't help but think I'll be left rueing too much cash left in defense, when I could easily have Demel who seems good for a few CS at home in the next 6...

in your case, i would do torres -> rvp and take hit to do bale -> hazard, and i think both hazard n rvp is enough to cover for chelsea and MU. maybe some people would argue that the transfer is sideways (to remove torres and get hazard), but it is a similar situation last season when we reluctant to transfer out ba for papiss. i took -8 hits last gw (mata -> michu, torres -> rvp) and fortunately its worked

keep baines as they play newcastle at home next gw. as chelsea playing away at qpr, i'll be more than happy to have rvp (home against wigan) than torres. however, after that game, MU fixtures will become tougher, but rvp showed last season and yesterday that he can score regularly either home or away.

I played my Wildcard this week, quite please with the results... however! The defence let me down pretty badly. Any recommended transfers? I'd like to avoid taking a hit if possible.

    Vorm/Etheridge
    Baines/S Taylor/Boyce/Hughes/Demel
    Cazorla/Hazard/Michu/Pienaar/Barkley
    Tevez/Graham/Van Persie.

I'm also tempted by Graham > Lambert after the Arsenal game.

Let's say - for the sake of the argument - Tevez, Torres and RVP will be neck in neck on goals all season.

    Who do you get?
    Do you get all three?
    And, in any case, Why?

"for the sake of the argument" if they are all neck and neck. I would get Teves & RVP because they seem to rotate well home and away and would be the obvious (c) choice.

Hazard should well be enough che cover in lieu of Torres.

All 3. If this is the year of the forwards again, you'll get massive points and an easy captain choice every week (Home fixtures I'd go by I guess) .You can probably still afford a decent midfield too. Cleansheets seem to be rare as well, so that will free up funds 😀

I've got Tevez and RVP and I'd just have to downgrade Zaba and possibly Yaya or Cazorla if they don't deliver as frequently as Torres. Which I highly doubt in reality haha. I'm content with the just RVP, Tevez, and a 6.0

all three have their own issues:

tevez: how long he will continue to start once aguero and balotelli fit to play?

torres: his place is not under threat due to lack of options upfront. but i'm still not convinced that torres has returned to form

rvp: again, the debate will surface again when rooney has recover.

plus when champions league game start, there will be a lot of rotation. for the time being, i'm happy to have both tevez n rvp, with hazard as chelsea cover

        A) Every player out there has issues
        B) CL rotation risk has been a hazard for all top players for every season. FWIW, don't see much need for rotation on the part of United. Sheesh, how many years in a row can they get such cushy draws?

Personally I think it looks unbelievable on paper, but factor in Aguero, Rooney and Torres less-than-proven-record lately and it gets more complicated. Plus they're not all going to have easy games week in week out. It's a good bet because there's a high chance one of them will at least score every week, but then you have the tricky details, who to captain? The frustration if you get it wrong and captain the 2 pointer guy twice in a row. It's a bit fantastical but this is fantasy football. Let's wait and see what the holy trinity turns out to be. And You cannot just overlook Aguero/Rooney, two of the main men for their teams last year.

I just hate to bank big money on people trying to come back off of injuries. Rooney's injury, deep into his thigh, is going to sap strength for some time. Knee injuries (City very vague about exact injury), are horrendously prone to recurrence and relapse in people who are so dependent on quick, sharp, cutting movements. I'd put even money on Aguero missing more time later in season with reinjury

Cheers. I am tempted to go with all three at the moment, and redistribute the money to a big hitter in midfield or defence as needed. The reason being they are all rising, and it would be hard to come aboard on any of their bandwagons later in the season.

Can do nothing until next weekend, so comments, ideas, and such are really appreciated.

    Vorm (FEDERICI)

    Ivanovic Zabaleta HANGELAND (Demel Clyne)

    Bale Yaya Michu Dyer (N'ZOGBIA)

    Torres Tevez PETRIC

    3.5 in bank

(Players in bold are playing at home)

    The problems are quite clear:
    1. No Hazard and RVP
    2. There's Bale, Zabaleta, and N'Zogbia
    3. and a minor one, having both Dyer and Michu makes me reluctant to only play one.

    WC? Hits? an FT?

And my options for a simple FT is Zaba to Baines/Verm/Ridgewell/McAuley (WBA's playing at Fulham), probably N'Zogbia to McClean/Pienaar/Walters but who will the new guy replace in the starting XI?

I would dump Zog for Pienaar. Pienaar a player you can always put in. I would start Petric, a lot writing him off because he was subbed for Berba the last day but they were 3-0 down at that stage and he was a injury doubt going into it so i think he will start up front with Berba the next day. Zaba could play next gameweek, but he isnt going to be realiable. I would transfer him for Baines.

I am going to hang off using wildcard and taking a 4pt hit instead. There will be gameweeks when it could be a lot more usefull to use it down the line.

      2. Bale is an issue
      3. Zab is fine imo.
      4. Zogbia is killing you.

Base on this i can see only 3 pressing issues. Get zogbia out for Pienaar or Mcclean or HBA or maybe a cheaper such as guthrie. if you want do a switch of petric to somebody else. Rickie lambert?

Might want to give bale another chance since spurs has decent fixtures

      Essentials? check
      Out of form player? none
Rotation risk? Jenkinson, but that's a minor one, and he offers great value for now.

Overall looks very good, well done if you have that without using WC...

With more indepth inspection, you have a fairly cheap defence that rotates pretty well (with the exception of GW17) until the January wildcard... if home form is maintained with those teams you could do well...

Only question I have is, do you favour benching Maloney over Nolan when both have good home fixtures?

        Wish it was non-WC 🙂

I agree with the weakness in defence. But that's the price for not jumping on the bandwagons earlier.

Excellent question! I guess I'd have to factor in Pienaar as well. Would be a gut feeling kind of deal.

Pienaar playing away in those weeks could very well solve that problem...

Ideal, as long as he doesn't score in those games... 😉

Decent team. I wish I could have the same team without WC.

          He better rock for Spurs!!!

Good decision to wc then Gaz...Pretty envious of the team on paper.

      Me likey!
      I'm on same front three,
3/5 of mids (Hazard Michu Pienaar, but then Kagawa/Noble instead)
2/5 of def (Rangel Demel, but then Figueroa instead of Boyce, and still need to fix last two)
      and then diff keepers (Vorm/Cerny)
