With two wins and a draw from a tough opening schedule, Steve Clarke has turned a few heads as the new man in charge at West Brom. The Baggies first three Gameweeks, which saw them welcome Liverpool and Everton to the Hawthorns in addition to a trip to Spurs, had many Fantasy managers reluctant to invest early on but, with just two points dropped, their assets are starting to pick up plenty new suitors:

Mainly, the focus has been on defence. With a couple of clean sheets already in the bag, Fantasy managers have snapped up the likes of Gareth McAuley, Liam Ridgewell and Ben Foster in their numbers as a source of mid-price cover, while the likes of City and United – without a single clean sheet between them – toil to justify their costlier price tags at the back.

James Morrison, however, has flown under the radar. The Baggies midfielder has a mere 1% ownership in Fantasy Premier League (FPL), despite returning a goal, an assist and a couple of bonus points over his opening trio of matches. Currently sitting on 18 points, he’s racked up more than Foster and is only one behind Ridgewell for West Brom, while in terms of midfielders, he’s just a single point worse off than the likes of Santi Cazorla, Marouane Fellaini and Kevin Nolan – all far more popular picks, each with their own bandwagons to boast of.

While consistency of selection has plagued the Baggies forwards, with only Shane Long starting the first three matches, Morrison’s place in Clarke’s midfield currently looks assured. Stationed in “the hole” behind the Irishman, he has played all but nine minutes of the season so far – Long, on the other hand, has been subbed off midway through the second-half in all three matches as Clarke freshens up his attack late on.

Priced at 6.0 in FPL and 6.4 in the Sky Sports game, the Scot looks a real mid-price differential to consider over the next few Gameweeks. With Clarke’s in-form side welcoming (RG, QPR, SOT) to the Hawthorns in the next eight and with trips to (ful, avl, wig) also on the agenda, his propensity to pick up the points could well appeal to those Fantasy managers looking for something different from the template midfields currently doing the rounds on site.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Any Irish fans feel Trap could lose his job? I don't see it happening personally, our team isn't good enough really anyway to qualify. I see the FAI giving him enough respect to back him for at least these qualifiers. He's a bit old and conservative but I don't us getting a better manager that could drastically fix the problems.

Bit harsh to say that about a 73 year old...;)

Looking at it positively, tonight's performance might be a bit of a wake up call. Looking forward to the Germany game either way, we can hardly be that bad again.

We will lose to Germany 0-3.
I didn't miss a home competitive match from 1984 til 2010, but I gave up going after watching them after a 0-0 with Georgia (or someone) So disheartening to watch that style of football.... 🙁

Don't think he will go, but certainly should go imo. The fact is qualification is far from certain anyway, and we're we to get through I really don't wish to see a repeat of the feeble effort put in at the Euros. The players don't seem to know what is required of them, players out of position or benched when they should start. A team full of well paid professionals who can't string 3 passes together. We new a good coach in, who can communicate clearly, and utilize the younger players

I don't see Reading scoring many this season, so Ricky Lambert will get more points. But can you make up for that with an extra million elsewhere. That is the question.

And 10 minutes from time, Leighton Baines completed the victory, with, remarkably, England's first goal direct from a free-kick since David Beckham scored against Ecuador in 2006 😯

Will Baines get more point than Terry this year? I get the whole "look into my eyes, think of him as a midfielder" thing but clean sheets is clean sheets is clean sheets. And Tezza ain't shy on the old goals front either.

I've got Terry in my team for this GW...was a bit worried about the injury he picked up tonight but supposedly it's nothing serious. Should have gone Ivanovic start of the season but Terry is always likely to score a few goals every season.

Maybe not worth a hit. Newcastle won't be easy and you need the clean sheet to help justify the hit. Who would you be transferring out?

    Doing my champions league team.

Are there new rules in place or something? how come the premium defenders are so cheap this year? And wasn't Messi £1m more expensive last year too? It seems way easier to pick a strong squad this season.

He has been training with a mid-table team in rural Bulgaria. I found it odd. I thought he would have stayed behind and gotten acclimated at Fulham.

Jol loves him though so I am sure he is starting GW4 against West Brom.
