Tim Krul is sent home from Holland’s training camp with an elbow problem. Gareth Barry is nearing a return for City, Brad Friedel is determined to hold off the challenge of Hugo Lloris between the posts for Tottenham, while John Terry joins Ashley Cole on the sidelines with less than a week until Chelsea’s trip to QPR:

Alan Pardew’s injury worries show no sign of abating right now. With Danny Simpson ruled out and Fabricio Coloccini a doubt, the Magpies boss now has Tim Krul’s fitness to fret over after the keeper was sent home from Holland training with an elbow problem. Krul featured for his country in a 2-0 win over Turkey on Friday evening but now faces a wait over the prognosis – with a trip to Everton up next, Fantasy faith in the Toffees assets looks set to grow.

Brad Friedel has spoken of his determination to see off the challenge of Spurs’ new keeper Hugo Lloris:

When I signed for Tottenham, I signed as a stop-gap while Tottenham looked for a long-term goalkeeper. Tottenham deserve a long-term goalkeeper. Right now I believe the shirt is mine to lose, I believe the manager came out and said that. If that’s the case then great.

Friedel was voted Man of the Match in Spurs’ previous game at home to Norwich, with a string of saves denying the Canaries a win. Ahead of a run of games that sees Spurs square up to (rdg, QPR, AVL) in the next four, the US international still seems to be in the driving seat but with Tottenham failing to register a single clean sheet under Andre Villas-Boas so far, faith in their defensive assets has taken a real dip, despite those favourable fixtures.

Elsewhere, Joe Allen is expected to be fit for Wales’ game with Serbia. The Liverpool midfielder missed the 2-0 defeat by Belgium on Friday due to a virus but is now expected to shake off any after-effects and take his place in the squad. John Terry has joined Ashley Cole on the sidelines for England’s match with Ukraine due to an ankle, with the pair battling to be ready for Chelsea’s Gameweek 4 trip to QPR.

Zoltan Gera is expected to be fit for Hungary’s match with Holland – the West Brom midfielder was subbed off against Andorra on Friday with an Achilles knock but has since returned to training. Jonny Evans has handed Northern Ireland a fitness boost ahead of Tuesday’s match with Luxembourg – the centre-half picked up an ankle knock in last week’s defeat to Russia but has come through a training session unscathed.

Gareth Barry revealed he is closing in on a comeback for City. The midfielder – who has yet to feature this term for the champions – went on to say:

I had a double hernia operation which meant an initial four weeks out, but then I tore a muscle in rehab which set me back a little bit, but I don’t think I’m too far off now – touch wood! I’m just taking things one day at a time but I’m feeling quite strong again which is really good. I’ve had two outings with the Elite Development Squad now – 45 minutes against Middlesbrough and 80 against Liverpool and I felt a lot better in the second game so things are progressing nicely.

Barry’s absence – allied with Nigel De Jong’s sale to AC Milan – has handed Jack Rodwell the chance to cement his place as Yaya Toure’s central midfield partner in a couple of City’s games thus far. With Barry reluctant to put a date on his comeback, Rodwell seems set to continue in the first XI for next weekend’s trip to Stoke as City look to register their first away win of the new campaign.

he dont wanna play Jelavic in 1st team and i dont get it why

Eduardo is not the same player anymore since tylor broked his leag but he still getting starts ahead of Jelavic for some reasons

            Jelly+Mandzukic+Modric upfront is fantastic combo

Yeah they struggled cleared from the line, post and clear penalty wasn't given for Macedonia. Even Pletikosa (Cro keeper) stated that it was penalty. Stimac isn't that good as Bilic IMO. They were not that good in Fruday. Belgium first in our group Croatia second. Sorry Forza

We were doing quite well until the red, then it was pretty much game over.

Although, I suppose given we had a red after 25 minutes they didn't particularly need to be that great.

Morning lads. Apologies to non WCers. I have Jenkinson and he’s risen 0.2 and will probably rise again on Friday.
If Arsenal get a CS (very possible) Vs SOT, we can probably expect another rise for Jenkinson before Arsenal’s two tough fixtures.
So, my question is ; bank the 0.1 profit now or hopefully bank 0.2 next week plus hopefully get his clean sheet (but waste a valuable transfer)?
    Thanks.

Its certainly not ideal. And I certainly wouldn't be looking to get in any toon defenders, but that back line is still decent. Anita played many times for ajax and looked really good when he went there last week. Williamson and perch did well when they filled in last season

On that note, not sure what McAuley has to do to have "A" form on the watchlist.

I can see why you've picked all those defenders, but I wouldn't bother with Distin - I'd either find the cash for Baines or go with Hughes / Clark.

I'll be going for Lambert over Graham too but it's a close one.

MAROUANE FELLAINI has admitted he is coming to the end of his Everton career.

The Belgian midfielder, 24, is under contract for the next four seasons at Goodison Park.

But he said: “I am just starting my fifth season at Everton, this will be one of my last.

“I have seen everything. In January or at the end of the season I will turn to another club or championship.”

Fellaini joined Everton in a £15million move from Standard Liege in 2008.

He has scored 22 goals in 130 appearances for the Merseyside club.

Get him out of your team...

You clearly don't follow the news properly, or you would've seen the statement he has issued since:

"I was very surprised to read in some newspapers that I will leave Everton very soon and perhaps next January," wrote Fellaini in a statement published on his Facebook page.

"Let me remind you that I am very happy in Liverpool and our start of the championship was good.

"Kevin Mirallas and some other good players joined us to make a better squad in order to realize a good championship in the line of the end of the last one.

"So with Everton, I am ready to play all the season and to reach our goals of this season. However, my only concern for the moment is of course our [Belgium] Tuesday's game against Croatia.

"Whether you're in Belgium or England, thank you from my heart for your support ..."

PS take a shat on the pillow next to her sleeping face - hopefully she will roll over and deservedly pie herself!!!

Well, those who play FPL properly will either be on a WC, or waiting until after the internationals until making their move. Casuals will tend to either make their transfer immediately, last minute, or not at all.

It's no surprise it is dead now right in the middle.

Yes of course! Got 13 players rising, some of whom of course I want to keep so no real money profit to be made there, only team value. Several are .1 risers whom I intend to sell if only they would rise .1 more.

If you haven't got RVP already, I would risk going without for the Wigan game, and then fixtures stiffen up a little, so you MIGHT be able to get away with it then for a few weeks longer. (I say might because he is obviously proven capable of big scores in any fixture).

If there is a time on paper not to have RVP, then it could be over the next few weeks.

Disclaimer: I would still rather have him than not, and I have 😉

Been playing this game since 2006 but the idea of having team ‘cover’ is new to me.

If Arsenal were playing well I’d want to have Cazorla AND Podolski in my team but the popular advice on here would be to swap out Pod as I already have Arsenal attacking cover. Advice seems to be to go for Barbatov in place of Pod for example but I’m looking at it and thinking Pod will score more goals than Berba….will he not?

Maybe it is because people feel Berbatov, in your example, may be more central to Fulham's attacking returns for goals and assists, where as Podolski if what I hear is true is playing out left so may not have the chances of a Cazorla or a Giroud.

The concept of 'cover' is nonsense. Just get the players you think will get you the most points. It really is that simple...

Having BOTH Cazorla and Podolski is an overkill imo.... Arsenal aren't exactly banging in goals and they've some tough matches ahead.

The truth is most people look at each team and judge it in terms of its equilibrium. It seems like too much to have say Cazorla and Podolski as you say. The merits of this argument are worth debating. In this case it seems like a decent gamble to have both if they are showing form. But the key factor is value and price. They cost a combined 17.4m. That's a lot of money to spend on one team's attack unless they are guaranteed to explode every week with points. So the point is the risk appears quite high. Whereas if you have a balanced group of attacking players from a variety of teams it at least seems more well-distributed.

There is a case for arguing that if Cazorla turns into an assists machine like Hazard then Podolski might be worth having as well purely because most of his assists need a finisher and Podolski potentially fits the bill this season.

I still believe in the term cover but I include only the elite players from teams in the poll. Meaning Mikel isn't Chelsea cover 😉

VERY interesting and balanced set of responses - cheers guys 🙂

For the record, in the example above I have HBA if I went with the Berba option or Pienaar if I go with the Podolski option.

I was thinking that Pienaar, Cazorla and Podolski was better than HBA, Cazorla and Berba

Or keep em both with a plan to downgrade 1 after next week, allowing you to get Berba or HBA.

No point having a non-playing GK in my opinion. Can you not downgrade somewhere to get a 4.5 GK in?

Sterling won't be reliable cover as he will be prone to rotation. Reid seems like a knee jerk. And you need two keepers that play. The attack looks decent though 🙂

I think Carzola is essential at the mo, esp ahead of this gw against SOU. So, is the following worth it for a four point hit:
    Nasri - Carzola
    Zabaleta - Hangeland
Already have Tevez for Man C cover.
Is it worth it for the hit?!

Worth the punt I think yes.

      Arsenal finally scored - confidence.
      Southampton leaky at the back.
Cazorla points haul last time out - confidence.
      Home fixture.

People will say they have hard fixtures after but I ignore that rubbish when it comes to good players.
How many did RVP score last year against Chelsea, another big team?

I'd pick Maloney out of those two as he's on penos, and you already have Swansea midfield coverage. But Guthrie is cheap, on set pieces and has a double GW some time on the horizon. Decent fixtures too.

both dodgy picks IMO - Mertesacker is under threat from Koscielny and Gallas is Gallas, and in a tottenham defence which has always been and will be shaky
