Arsenal’s battling performance at the Etithad and a dramatic second-half turnaround at the Lane bring Gameweek 5 to a close. Our members can now let the dust settle on their Fantasy scores before gorging on all the stats from all the weekend’s matches, or just read on for the numbers that piqued our interest…

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Quite amused to see everyone getting Hazard out, I hope he gets a blank this week, so that more people get him out, and scores double figure points the follow week, that'd be mental! 😀

Slightly understandable though. He will be a rotation risk, and City's upcoming fixtures aren't great - the "favourable" home games come in close proximity to CL games.

He isn't in my wildcard team.

I still think he's a keeper. He's the only in-form striker that Mancini has atm, and he won't be benching him 2 games in a row, but that's probably short term.

Aguero looked pretty good today especially in a first game after injury against the best defence in the league.

Its not like defense doesn't get you points, and you'd be crying like anything if the heavy rotation that you're going with in the front backfires you with the player on the bench scoring a brace.

i don't mind these benching headaches and even the lost bench points. everyone above me seems to. i prefer all my attackers to be strong options. if one of your important players gets injured you automatically have a strong replacement. might save on transfers. be lookin to save up a freebie next week. as it'll leave you so much more flexible. to that end make sure to have a squad that looks as strong for next week as it does this

Wish arsenal had form like this:

    "Real's Bernabeu record:

If Manchester City had held on to win at the Bernabeu, it would have been the first time in Real Madrid's history that the nine-times European Cup champions had fallen to defeat in their first home match of the competition, a record now consisting of 41 wins and two draws, the most recent of which came against Anderlecht, exactly 50 years ago"

It's probably been discussed, but with Lambert, Ba, Berbatov, Fletcher etc. all seeming to be reliable mid-price striker options, is it really worth forking out so much more on RVP?

The positives are that he's a much safer captain choice - if only for piece of mind! - and the money has to be spent somewhere... Expensive midfielders aren't tearing up any trees at the moment.

As you say: it's about consistency and reliability. RVP scored at Anfield on a day that they were as pumped as they'll likely get all season.

Only thanks to a dubious penalty though! He was fairly uninvolved throughout the majority of the game.

Pretty sure I will stick with RVP - on a wildcard at the moment. United's fixtures being slightly indifferent over the coming weeks is a positive as far as I'm concerned, means RVP is less likely to be rested.

Meh - we're talking FPL returns here. RVP went to Anfield and came back with a goal. His involvement says a lot more about the United midfield than it does about him/his form.

Don't think all the mid price options can continue to score so well, after a few weeks some will fall away whereas RVP will score more consistently and more explosively all season.

I'm sure you're right, but RVP is pretty much twice the price of half these players! He has to do a lot to make him "value for money". Granted he's doing that, just about, at the moment, but he's not going to score in every game either.

Really don't think you need him until Gameweek 11. Only really the Stoke game stands out for me before that and i think he will be rotated because of the champs league. plus as you said there's really good options in the forward slots cheaper until you really need RVP.

But like I said above, out of the next few fixtures only Stoke (H) looks like a game that he could conceivably be rested for. United aren't playing particularly well at the moment, so I'm sure Fergie will want his best players playing the majority of the time.

        Rooney could confuse matters, though.

Am going without RVP at the moment and to be honest it sort of in the back of your mind he can go ballistic. The risk i will have to take 🙂 As for the armband, i can see better options for the next few weeks ....well i think i can ...hopefully ..finger crossed...

Neither do I, not convinced an attacking midfield role would make sense. RVP was starved of possession today, Uniteds build up play was poor and often too slow. My feeling is that if he was playing in the present Arsenal side he would be scoring for fun.

I have argued this point a few times before as a non Rvp owner. In summary, if you think RVP will get more then 30 starts in the league this season he is probably worth it. I think he will come in around the 30 mark as I can't see the other strikers not getting game time. Yet to see how he and Rooney work in the same team.

But I could be wrong and am willing to get RVP. So far i'm doing okay without, but early days.

There's a definite case for and against having RVP. To be honest, 6 points per game isn't really good enough to justify his price tag. Issue is that if you don't have him, you have to use the money created [by not having him] well!

Last year RVP averaged around 7.5 points per 90 played. Think he played pretty much every game iirc. The less time on the pitch, the less points over the course of a season. Or at least that is my rationale, he does have a higher upside now though with better players around him.

I am investing the money elsewhere (surely, but slowly) and have a WC to fallback if things change. But for now, going without is a risk that is paying off adequately over the template teams.

Yaya shouldn't be in there long term. Bale/Kagawa/Cazorla/Hazard/Pienaar are all better options

My wild card basically comes to down to:

    Aguero/Tevez/RVP
    Ba/Fletcher/Berbatov

    Hazard/Cazorla
    Fellaini/Pienaar
    Gibbs/Rafael/Skrtel
    keep HBA?
    Bale?

It's so hard to choose what team to go forward with...

Flip a coin on Bale, depends on who youd have instead/have to drop

You fancy a CS against a team scoring lots of goals? Thats pretty bold.

This is true, but Soton are really fluent and gung-ho in attack. I would never ever captain a defender anyway, just too risky. Concede one goal and youre basically done for

heyup, im looking for a replacement for Cuellar, have a 5.2 to spend on a defender, McAuley the best option (already have Foster)?

Dont really care for doubling up on defensive duties, get someone that rotates with the ones you have

Yeah same here, but not seeing many options. Otherwise I could just wait for Cuellar, just my defence is a bit weak atm.

Used my FT on Zaba > Baines but resigned to either a 4 pointer or WC. Still have a lot of players I'd like to take out - Federici, Hughes, Dyer, Graham, Saylor & maybe Clyne too. Should I:

    a) Graham > Fletcher (4 point hit)
    b) Dyer > Pienaar (4 point hit)
    c) Wilcard

b - as dyer is def suspended and seems prone to rotation now

Would really like some last second advice on this one guys. About to make the move.

    I'm doing:
Cuellar -> Baines and Hazard -> Sterling

and then next week I'm thinking of doing Maloney -> Michu

    Thoughts?

Yup, all are free. My only worry is that Hazard might go mental against Norwich, but he looked very poor this weekend. Also Marin is coming back and Oscar and Mata seem to be building form. Thanks for the reply!

Yeah, what you wrote are my thoughts down to the very last. He looks fatigued, and wasnt really that bright against Juve midweek either. The Norwich game is obviously a concern, but you cant cover every base!

Rested, first time this season so was bound to happen. Yeah, i would keep Michu atleast, two tasty home fixtures coming after this weekend. Jury still out on Hazard, leaning on selling personally
