Spurs win at Old Trafford for the first time since 1989 as Andre Villas-Boas’ side triumph in the game of the season so far. Gareth Bale is the main protagonist for the Londoners, as United’s defensive frailties are exposed yet again:

Going Up

Gareth Bale
In a Gameweek where many of the popular midfield picks failed to produce the goods, the Welshman continued his return to form with a goal and pair of assists at Old Trafford. With a home clash against Villa up next, Bale can expect to pick up plenty of interest over the next few days.

Jan Vertonghen
Having found his eye for goal in the midweek Capital One Cup win at Carlisle, Vertonghen notched his first league goal of the campaign as Andre Villas-Boas’ side won for the third Gameweek in a row. With (AVL, sot, WIG) amongst his next four fixtures, the potential for point looks good for the Belgian at both ends of the pitch.

Clint Dempsey
Picked ahead of Gylfi Sigurdsson for the role in “the hole”, the US international vindicated his manager’s decision with his first goal of the season. Dempsey – who has a mere 2% ownership in FPL – could be a real differential pick over the next few games, with a starting berth in the Spurs XI now seemingly assured.

Wayne Rooney
Sent on for Ryan Giggs after the break, Rooney was forced to take up a wider position, with Shinji Kagawa keeping the role behind Robin Van Persie. He made an immediate impact, setting up Nani for United’s first, and with a free-kick hitting the woodwork, he’s offering a real alternative to the Dutchman up top as we look to freshen up our Fantasy squads.

Going Down

United Defence
Once again, the Red Devils failed to keep out their opponents at the back. Sir Alex Ferguson’s side have conceded in all but one of their six fixtures so far – with trips to Newcastle and Chelsea in the next four, in addition to a home clash against Arsenal, sales of their defenders look likely to pick up.

Robin Van Persie
Normally, an assist isn’t too bad for a day’s work. The Dutchman has still managed to produce attacking returns in all of his starts this term but with the likes of Nikica Jelavic, Luis Suarez and Demba Ba all racking up the goals earlier today, and with Rooney now back for United, many may be tempted to look for alternatives to the 13.5 priced Dutchman.

Please can some folks enlighten me as to the chat around getting off the RVP Express at the next stop?

Yes, it was not a great GW to C with all the other banging forwards milking around. However RVP should have had the chance to take at least one pen, he could have scored a brace himself and got a assist or two. Also and not to mention Rooney being greedy and not laying him in (second half, when he hit the side netting RVP had his own island of space... What a joke).

My point, 10 points this week :-(. However the signs are good and in another week he could have had 20+. Also the fixtures are such that he will play over the next few weeks because he is needed. And then when the CL gets to 4/5 games in, Utd's fixtures get pretty tasty, there'll be through you'd assume and he will surely be played without fear of rest for CL. Furthermore the defense is so shakey atm that they will need to score 3 to get a point.

13.5 is a lot but overall worth it IMO long term. Thoughts, please?

Jelly is the man for them this week. Next week RVP. Torres the week after.
Bandwagon monsters who talk condescendingly about 'casuals', many of whom are out scoring them.

RVP is in my team and stays until a real reason for removal presents itself

Well said, I chose RVP because he is playing in an unbelievably attacking team and is nailed on for starts right now unlike the City foursome...I'm glad to hold off on Tevez/Aguero while we get a better idea of things.

Do you ever wonder whether some people are sneaky and have three transfers a week? So many transfers seem to place to players one week to late. Or people lose sanity.

Still only in GW 6 of 38.

i agree. rvp like aguero are absolutely class. rooney and tevez are friggin awesome sure but for ther respective teams its rvp and aguero who will score the most points. what happens if in the next game week rvp gets a hatrik and 2 assists if you get rid of him you'll find it difficult to get him back

I'm going to jump on to Rooney as soon as I have a transfer to spare, I love RVP but Rooney + £1.5m (my personal saving) is a bargain in comparison imo. He looks much fitter since returning and I actually think he looks very sharp: RVP missed an easy assist to let Rooney score and hit the ball more towards the corner flag then Rooney himself. Deadly partnership but I think both will end up as 2 of the top 4/5 scorers in the league this season.

Funniest post of the day comes from the Norwich City fans forum - regarding the way to approach Chelsea game 😀

"Based on today's performance I suggest we forget 4-4-2 in favour of an '11' formation; John Ruddy on the goal line symmetrically flanked by 5 outfield players each side of him. Tallest guys at either end to cover the 'postage stamp' area."

Saying Valencia better than him is like saying to Ferdinand that Carrick is better than you.

Im not saying anything bad about Jenk, but I think he is lacking going forward- very one dimensional, but not wasteful with the ball so servicable. Do you think Sagna wont walk straight in?

It was Nani who was supposed to cover the middle and keep out Verthongen, it is not like Bale went past him. For the third it is a tricky call do you go to help out with Defoe or stick with bale I dont see him being the fault for any of the goals especially with defoe being a striker with a very good long shot.

Nani did him no favours sure but where was he. Him and Nani should have swapped over. As for the third, please watch it again. He did nothing except open the door for someone to walk past his shoulder.

I have Bale, so no complaints from me 😀

Ben Arfa - Hazard - Pienaar - Michu - Sterling
Ba - Tevez - Van Persie

Does a 4PH for Ben Arfa + Tevez ➡ Bale + Lambert make sense? Have Ba for Newcastle coverage and don't want to be playing 2 Newcastle players against a team I support to death next week. Thoughts?

We need 8 wins out of 12, but there are so many of those players out of form and Hansen and Kaymar have played just the once. Slim chance.

    ROONEY bandwagon:

I’m going to jump on to Rooney as soon as I have a transfer to spare, I love RVP but Rooney + £1.5m (my personal saving) is a bargain in comparison imo. He looks much fitter since returning and I actually think he looks very sharp: RVP missed an easy assist to let Rooney score and hit the ball more towards the corner flag then Rooney himself. Deadly partnership but I think both will end up as 2 of the top 4/5 scorers in the league this season.

    Anyone with me on this?

I don't think he's ahead actually - I hate saying actually at the end because it makes me sound condescending without meaning to. I just think they both discussed it and RVP let him take it kinda like when Cisse took that penalty (Rooney first league game after coming back, no goals yet etc). I reckon they'll share free kicks this season.

Agreed on Baines, I still feel triple Everton is overkill IMO, especially with Jelly back in the fold, certainly rate Pienaars potential long term returns

Great start. Looks like a PB year could be on the cards for ya. Nice work on Suarez and Gerrard. I had Suarez and Sterling myself so can't complain 🙂

Nothing worse then running for a train on platform four when the doors have already closed. Then you are in danger of missing the training approaching the station on platform one.

He does have a goal and assist in his last two, would it be better to replace him with Lukaku?
