The Dugout Discussion opens for an action-packed Sunday offering of Premier League action. There’s four games this afternoon, so that’s at least 88 players in action and looking to earn their fantasy managers some much needed points. We start at St. Mary’s where league new-boys Southampton welcome the visit of Martin Jol’s Fulham. The team news is in, and the sides line-up as follows…

Southampton XI: Gazzaniga, Richardson, Yoshida, Fonte, Fox, Puncheon, Schneiderlin, Steven Davis, Lallana, Rodriguez, Lambert.

Fulham XI: Schwarzer, Riether, Hughes, Hangeland, Riise, Kacaniklic, Ruiz, Baird, Sidwell, Duff, Rodallega.

Dead legs keep both Gaston Ramirez and Nathaniel Clyne out of the side, as Southampton make three changes to benefit Daniel Fox, Jason Puncheon and Morgan Shneirderlin.

The visitors are once again without their big summer signing, Dimitar Berbatov, who has failed to recovery from a hip injury that saw him sit out last week’s game. Also missing out is Mladen Petric – a calf problem prevents him from playing today.

After the clash at St. Mary’ is settled, we’re up at the opposite end of the country to see if Newcastle United can produce a repeat performance of last’s season home game against Manchester United.

In and amongst those two games, the rest of the Europa League contingent – Liverpool and Tottenham – have home ties kicking-off at 3pm. Stoke make the trip to Anfield, whilst Aston Villa are in the capital to face Andre Villas Boas’ side.

Keep up-to-date with all of today’s goings on in our Dugout Discussion chatroom, which is open and can be accessed right here.

How would you improve this team?

    Foster - Federici
    Ivan - Baines - Gibbs - Clyne - Demel
    Yaya - Hazard - Pienaar - Dyer - Guthrie
    Rvp - Ba - Lambert

    2.0m in the bank..

Thinking to do Dyer > Sahin ?

Thinking about WC - team after would be...

    Foster/Bego
    Baines/Cole/Vertonghen/Demel/Cuellar
    Hazard/Pienaar/Cazorla/Morrison/Sterling
Ba/Aquero/Berba (1.2 mil saved Ba - Ade likely)

    Too much defense?

If you have Baines, Cole and Vertonghen (and I'm not going to talk you out of it), then you should get Gorkss over Cuellar since there's no need for a 4.5 defender in your team)

Rest of your team looks solid.

For those with RVP they need to understand the 'opportunity cost'

Having RVP means you need to downgrade at least 2 other players and even in a nailed on fixture he is not certain to get the game time or point. So instead of having ivanovich and Baines you only have one, instead of having a Hazard and Barfa you only have one. It's not his lack of points that kills you it's the team you need to field to bring him in.

Plus now he has gone up in price no one wants to sell

So please sell him so I can buy Ready for GW11

Lol, not sure if you're just trolling, but I completely agree with your first point.

Aguero is arguable the same for points, but costs at least 2.2 less (if you bought RvP at 13.0 you could sell at 13.2 - that's his real cost in your team).

He has one blow out season the rest are sub-160 (due to injuries), so argument could be made to keep him as long as he's fit. Taking his current form across the season will give you around 220 points, significantly less than the 20 points per pound you'd want from your team over the season (that would give you 2000 points and even that's not that great)

And I had him as well, but I sold him and my team looks better.

Of course if you have him, you're happy - he scores points pretty much every week. The question is is it enough to justify his price tag.

SuperHans' point about him being the most likely man in the country to score a hattrick is compelling argument - and pretty much the reason he's in my team and captain most weeks. I am looking at a wildcard without him, but I can have a team I'm very happy with (inc Aguero) with him - such is the value to be had this year.

As I said earlier, atm it's not clear what is the correct policy, but removing him not only frees up cash to immediately spend, but it also allows for much smoother transfers. Instead of having to taking a hit to downgrade player A to get player B, only one transfer is likely to be required.

      Flexibility > RVP

that would require -8 or a wc. Plus I'm kinda loathe to lose RvP before a home game with Stoke.

Plus who would I bring in. I refuse to own Suarez, I have Jelavic and Berba, plus I have Ramirez, ruling out Lambert. So who the heck would I get in?

Is this worth a 4 pointer?

    Cashley -> Cuellar/Wilson/Wisdom
    McClean -> Cazorla

I think I had enough of RVP. Selling him allows me to upgrade other areas better, cash would seem better spend that way. I might pull a hit on that rather than activating WC, which is originally intended for a massive DGW ahead.

I've got both, only thing is that the fixtures turn juicy in a few weeks.

I have Ba as well and think that's maybe overkill. Might get rid for Silva/Bale but not I any rush.

was ineffective today. reckon he's a guy who'll do well against poor sides but go missing against the big guns

Corrigan, I have been disappointed not to get any returns on his since our WC. Probably doing Barfa & Fellaini to Cazorla & Stirling during the International Break.

Sterling even. Sold Cazorla for Bale this week and captained him, so I am a happy bunny tonight. Don't wanna lose Bale now.

In terms of things that you *almost* did, though. I am gutted I didn't follow my heart and do Skrtel. Knew they would keep a clean sheet. Bet he gets BAPS now, too. =o(
