John Terry has confirmed he will not be appealing against the four-match ban imposed by the FA for racially abusing Anton Ferdinand last October. The Chelsea skipper had until 6pm this evening to make his decision but released the following statement earlier this morning:

“I want to take this opportunity to apologise to everyone for the language I used in the game. Although I’m disappointed with the FA judgment, I accept that the language I used, regardless of the context, is not acceptable on the football field or indeed in any walk of life. As I stated in the criminal case, with the benefit of hindsight my language was clearly not an appropriate reaction to the situation for someone in my position. My response was below the level expected by Chelsea Football Club, and by me, and it will not happen again.”

Terry’s suspension will now take place with immediate effect. He is set to miss three league games – this weekend’s trip to Spurs, a home clash with United and the visit to Swansea – in addition to a Capital One Cup tie against United on October 31.

Domestically, he will next be available on November 11 for Liverpool’s visit to the Bridge, though Terry can participate in the Champions League away and home clashes against Shakhtar Donetsk on October 23 and November 7 respectively.

The news is likely to boost Gary Cahill’s first-team chances over the short-term, at least. The former Bolton man has started just one of the last four league matches, whereas David Luiz has featured in the first XI in the last five for Roberto Di Matteo’s side – a run of matches which has seen the Blues concede just twice.

Di Matteo also has the option of moving Branislav Ivanovic to the centre and handing new boy Cesar Azpilicueta a start at right-back; the summer signing climbed off the bench against Norwich in Gameweek 7 for his league debut. Whether Di Matteo will give Azpilicueta his first start against Spurs or United is perhaps debatable, though; the smart money seems to be on Cahill slotting in alongside Luiz as Chelsea look to maintain their position at the top of the position in their skipper’s absence.

No thanks. He's a City player under the threat of rotation, but with a slightly lower upside compared to the others.

I'm sticking with Tevez for now and perhaps targetting Silva if he's back soon.

I think I'll look at him again regardless of Silva's injury to be honest, for the same reasons he was a good pick preseason and scored well first 2 weeks. He'll play a big part this year IMO.

It’s nearing decision time! Going away tomorrow morning for the weekend and I’ll be switching off from FPL. I’m kind of looking forward to it (we’ll see how long I last before my wife discovers me in an internet cafe checking it)!

Please rate my transfer plans! I have 2 FTs and no pressing issues.

    A) RVP > Berb for GW8, Michu > anyone GW9.
    B) Lambert > Berbatov & Hangeland > Hughes/Wilson in GW9, Michu > £7.5m or less player in GW9.

With A, if I get it toally wrong and RVP in fact becomes ownable again, I could always get him back for Lambert as soon as next week. It’s risky but I think it could pay off in the short-term.

With B, I’m giving RVP a chance vs Stoke and hoping he steps up his game in the short-term (assuming he gets games of course). The defensive move is a sideways one to allow me to do Lambert > Berbatov. I really want Berbatov and I can’t have all the strikers I want so Lambert has to make way.

Could be a real turning point in my season if I shift RVP at the right time. The money would allow me to get 3 big hitters in midfield should I not want him back.

        I don't get it, sorry!

Keeping RVP for Stoke would seem sensible. It means less choice with Michu though. I suppose Silva's injury has detracted from the idea of 3 big hitters though.

IMO there will never be a good time to shift RVP...he will score 2/3 goals the week after you drop him. And you will always want him at some other point...no point in denying it.

Quite a few people's views seem to be heavily influenced by a fear of RVP doing well when they don't have him rather than the thought that he will actually do well.

So you're saying B? Wilson or Hughes? Hughes has the better fixture short-term and would rotate with Gorkss for the odd bad/away game. Would also be spreading my bets more than if I went double Stoke.

Going double Stoke would be good long-term though I think, at least while they have good fixtures!

B looks sensible, Michu-Walters in 9 perhaps. A) gives you some financial clout tho, as long as RVP doesn't give you a clout for binning him.

I fear the RVP 'worth it' argument won't be solved this gameweek, or in the next three. It's a good time to drop him (in theory, by fixtures) and see how you cope. But I wouldn't want to spend the money in midfield because there's that great run of fixtures from gw11 - so I'd keep the door open to get him back. Personally I think I will keep for the next 3. He tends to go off in big games, and then for as long of the kind run as he's playing and looking like scoring. Then I'll have seen him through easy 'restable' games, hard games, home and away games - and in various formations too I guess. Then i'll make a call if I want him IN or OUT forever and ever. This plan requires patience which I don't really have - but this season I have more than usual so maybe I'll manage it.

Thanks. Reading this has actually really helped make my mind up, even though I don't agree with you totally.

I think his fixtures are actually great because he should play vs. Stoke given the game the other strikers had. He should also play in the 2 big games in GW 9 & 10 where Fergie will be less tempted to rotate him for CL. He might also be more of a focal point against the big teams too.

Maybe gw11/12 is actually a good time to reconsider rather than now.

No but it was the gamble on who would start. Hazard flew out of the blocks, price went up and everyone dropped Mata. The main thing about Mata is that he has now been rested for the first time in a year or so and this makes a big difference.

Of course not, I had no reputation to begin with. If he doesn't score against Stoke so be it...I won't be the only fool who captained him. I however disagree with how you are looking at it. I bought RVP because I needed a WC and he's a great player to have and to captain, it's to do with his rep not mine!

Although i think he's not worth the money, there is not a more productive way to spend the money as there are such good mid priced strikers available and ~6m mids. And defenders aren't an efficient way to invest money. Aguero is a good pick, but the rotation risk is great. RVP is the best solution i think. And Mr.Glover's analysis suggests we need United attack:

"...he’s not worth the money, there is not a more productive way to spend the money as there are such good mid priced strikers available..."

The point is because there are so many other good options, it's easy to spend the money in a productive way.

He's great coverage for United throughout the year. I'm going to find it hard to get rid of him or Aguero from here on. Think they're both looking at returns almost every week. RVP would have to blank at least 3 weeks for me to consider changing him, unless it was Rooney taking all the points.

Ah i see, i was too ambiguous. I mean those cheaper players are more productive but there is not a more productive way 'to spend the money' as you'll have too much cash left.

It's difficult to spend the change in a way that doesn't run into the same "value" criticism IMO. Wherever you invest in a big money players there's arguably a better "value" alternative.

I have Michu and Hal Robson Kanu as my 4th and 5th midfielders…
          I rarely play 5 midfielders..

Loves to have a good rotation for the 4th midfielder..lest I end up playing Michu all the time…

          With money in bank i have 4.3+7+1.2 = 12.5….
Can some one suggest me a good 4th and 5th midfielder combo based on upcoming fixtures?!?!

                Yes.

But I wouldn't be against bringing in Aguero/Tevez or Ba in for him this week.

Would just get Bale in, but if that's not possible, yeah.

Its interesting. Surely Walters/Morrison/Barfa would be preferable?

Maybe, but dont expect any explosive returns. If Ade would go ahead of Defoe that would make that punt a bit better- with ades better ability to finish his crosses.

Given that the "is RVP worth it?" debate looks like running and running I suppose it's fair to say that FPL priced him very well this year?

IMO, no player in FPL should start with a price tag of 10m or more at the start of the season... We have 100m to select 15 players and 10m seems like a reasonable highest starting price tag... Let them increase / decrease they way they do when people start buying/selling them...

Yeah, I suppose. He couldn't have been priced any lower because of the season he just had and at that time he was still at Arsenal.

It was the transfer that made the debate. In Arsenal it would have been a no brainer to get him in.

I have him. However I am not of the stance that he is a must have, at least at present. However having him doesn't exactly weaken my squad. The fact is he is a prove striker, in a top club. Should he hit some big returns, I then have a big advantage, its ok to sell, if it means the money can be spent on an essential striker, who is going ballistic each week. They do not exist.

Saved my 2 free transfers for the international break. was all set on silva in as one of them and to get bale in next week. now my plan is slightly up in the air. he was to be my city cover, was also contemplating a punt on walcott but he got injured also.

any suggestions on who to get in instead of silva?

Get Bale this week anyway. He has the potential of ripping any defense apart and Terry-less Chelsea might as well suffer.

I would suggest you dont need any City cover initially as they dont have the easyest fixture. Also no need to switch out Hazard for anyone as all of the replacements dont have a better fixture this GW.

Id use your transfer to upgrade Demel or get another 4 mil player for him and save the other one or get another keeper in who you could actually use from time to time.

I definitely want bale but the midfielders I currently have have alright fixtures so I think it will have to be defence or goalkeeper. if kolarov plays further up then ill prob get him for demel.
                Cheers guys

              Current:
              Kagawa, Yaya, Walters, Michu, Hazard
              Torres, Lambert, Tevez

Considering Kagawa --> Cazorla and Tevez --> Jelavic

I'll have no Manure coverage at all.

              Thoughts?
