John Terry has confirmed he will not be appealing against the four-match ban imposed by the FA for racially abusing Anton Ferdinand last October. The Chelsea skipper had until 6pm this evening to make his decision but released the following statement earlier this morning:

“I want to take this opportunity to apologise to everyone for the language I used in the game. Although I’m disappointed with the FA judgment, I accept that the language I used, regardless of the context, is not acceptable on the football field or indeed in any walk of life. As I stated in the criminal case, with the benefit of hindsight my language was clearly not an appropriate reaction to the situation for someone in my position. My response was below the level expected by Chelsea Football Club, and by me, and it will not happen again.”

Terry’s suspension will now take place with immediate effect. He is set to miss three league games – this weekend’s trip to Spurs, a home clash with United and the visit to Swansea – in addition to a Capital One Cup tie against United on October 31.

Domestically, he will next be available on November 11 for Liverpool’s visit to the Bridge, though Terry can participate in the Champions League away and home clashes against Shakhtar Donetsk on October 23 and November 7 respectively.

The news is likely to boost Gary Cahill’s first-team chances over the short-term, at least. The former Bolton man has started just one of the last four league matches, whereas David Luiz has featured in the first XI in the last five for Roberto Di Matteo’s side – a run of matches which has seen the Blues concede just twice.

Di Matteo also has the option of moving Branislav Ivanovic to the centre and handing new boy Cesar Azpilicueta a start at right-back; the summer signing climbed off the bench against Norwich in Gameweek 7 for his league debut. Whether Di Matteo will give Azpilicueta his first start against Spurs or United is perhaps debatable, though; the smart money seems to be on Cahill slotting in alongside Luiz as Chelsea look to maintain their position at the top of the position in their skipper’s absence.

Personally targetting Wilson (also have Bego) or Hughes. I would rather be late to the Wisdom party than be early, just to find out that there is no party).

I'm leaning toward Wilson as you can play him every week from GW9

Do peoples think that Osman will replace Fellaini, with gibson going into a holding role?

    Have Fellaini and could do
    A) - Fellaini>>Peanut, but everyone in my league has him
    B) - Fellaini>>Osman, as a differential
    C) - just play Sterling, bench Fellaini as i have Jelavic and save FT until next week

Just to make my point a bit clearer.

    Up to GW8

Arsenal's RVP (this time last year): 600 mins played (All Starts) 3 goals, 1 assist.
Man Utd's RVP (this year): 489 mins played (2 Sub apps) 5 goals, 2 assists.

    He is outperforming himself already.

this theory is absolute rubbish- at manutd he has more players creating more opportunities=more goals for everyone, more assists+goals for rvp. once united get into the swing of things they will be dominating teams. this is the same team that were a couple of goals off the league last year, PLUS rvp

Yeah and it's resulted in more goals for him, so what is wrong with that in people's eyes? He is doing better than he was when he was worth 11.9m last year and I still bought him then despite the slow start.

after that, there was a huge improvement in arsenal as a team (arteta, vermaelen) which lead to arsenal score more goals (mainly van persie) and win games.

is there going to be any significant improvement in manu from now on? they are already the top scorers, things could even bo backwards. van persie may not score in higher rate but maintain his scoring which is atm. or even go worse if manu stop scoring 2-3 goals a game (there was a time last season when they won 1-0 and people transfered out rooney). That was after they lost 6-1 to City...they didn't have RVP last year to make the scorelines heavier in their time of need. There will be an improvement in Man Utd yes...

To reiterate, here's what I wrote last page in case you missed it:

Also for the record, I bought RVP right at the beginning of his amazing run and kept him for the whole season. His stats suggested he would start hitting the net if he kept up his then consistently good goal-threat and he had an easy run of games.

I don’t think the same will happen this year. Totally different situation.

    Wilson Caulker Micah Sagna Rafael
    Sterling Pienaar Carzola Mata HBA
    Aguero Ba Suarez

I'm trying to get that team with the less amount of hits possible aswell as gaining the matchdays

For all of that its -32pt hit I'm thinking of splitting it and doing -16pts in next 2 weeks or i could even downgrade one to a -12.

I know it seems crazy LOL.......

Good point since I had Kaca 1st on the bench when he got 10 points and luckily he got auto-subbed on. As long as he gets 60+ mins, he's every chance to score against Villa at home.

cannot understand people thinking rooney is a better choice than rvp. get real, rvp is at the tip of the attack and is the best finisher in the league. once rooney starts playing well, rvp is going to mop up the points. any people arguing rooney is a better option are just trying to convince themselves because they cant spare the extra couple of mill for van persie. the point explosion is coming and then they will have no choice but to jump on board

I think most people will agree that RVP will probably score more but it's about having a front 3 that will score most points not just one out of RVP or Rooney.

The thing that irking me about the 'Great RVP Debate' is what Fergie said. He said that he predicts RVP and Rooney will get over 20 goals a piece. As he is the one arranging the tactics, this is worrying as an RVP supporter. I'm going to be approaching the Stoke game with an open mind. A key decision is going to have to made soon though, for all of us.

You think Fergie tells his players to specifically score 20 goals each? He's being encouraging to his two top strikers...if RVP wants to score 40 he will let him! He has no choice in how much his strikers score in any given game. He can only hope they do the business. And 20 goals is always the benchmark for world class strikers!

No, but i trust his judgment over mine and everyone elses here as he is the one on the training pitch everyday, and arranging his tactics. I'm sure he is better positioned to give a better prediction. The 3 point assists will become a facto as well though i think.

          Never trust anything Fergie says.

He's clearly playing mind-games. Whether it's to intimidate opposition players, boost his players' morale or to justify himself to the media/board, it's still just hot air.

Ok I'll make one last point and then I'll stop.

If Tevez hadn't scored 15 points in GW3, RVP would have shot up to 14m so fast. The fact that he was matched by a player owned by so many diluted his worth. From that moment people saw that while RVP was doing the business, a 9m striker like Tevez was matching him. And since Suarez's hat trick and the lack of subsequent RVP hat trick people are really starting to wonder if mid-priced strikers are the way to go.

I won't argue that those mid-priced strikers aren't the way to go. But I do believe that they are less likely to have it as easy as RVP will have it playing for the most potent attacking team in the league right now.

The other thing to factor in is Tevez didn't score a hat trick, he just matched RVP for points successfully and only because RVP missed the penalty. Tevez also scored such an unbelievably flukey goal.

And we all know Suarez can do the business sometimes (especially against Norwich) but he's not in the same calibre as an RVP. He is a brilliant player I don't question that but his knack of scoring goals can be extremely erratic. What RVP gives you is a Clean Sheet assassinator!

    Anyway, enough said.

Let's just say we are convinced by your arguments to sign/keep RVP, what have you actually gained? If you're convinced he's worth the money then just sit back and let us have a balanced debate.

Sounds to me like you're not 100% secure with your decision and you're trying to convince more people to think the same way so that you feel better about your decision.

No I'm trying to be as objective as I can about it and look at the facts. I don't think Tevez will score for fun like RVP will and I don't have faith in Suarez until he scores consistently. Yes I am slightly biased to RVP because of last year and owning him now.

I'm not saying he's worth the money specifically I'm trying to point out what his true worth is compared to other strikers. As in what he does that others don't do. It's the same reason why I bought him last year over the likes of Suarez.

RVP will be rotated with 4 very good strikers at the club and fighting a war on 2 fronts, league and europe. Same goes for the Argentinians at City.

Suarez, Jelavic, Torres, Berbatov, are the main (only in some cases) strikers at their clubs. Also with their sides not being in europe (no one cares about europa league) less chance of rests.

13.4m compared to 7m-9.5m is too big a price difference for me to put my trust in Fergie playing him in the prem week in week out.

    Nolan or Walters?

Just played WC and currently have Walters (benched ahead of much better fixtures of course), but instinct is telling me to flip him for Nolan for now, and bring him in later if he justifies the Watchlist hype. Also, have Bego and Wilson so worried about being over-exposed to Stoke, good as their fixtures look after this GW.

    Rest of team:
    Bego, McCarthy
S Taylor, Hughes, Baines, Cuellar, Wilson
    Santi, Walters, Bale, Pienarr, Sterling
    RVP, Tevez, Berbs

Any thoughts appreciated - thanks fellas!

I've been thinking about RVP. It's undeniable he'll get shed loads of points but how many points does he need to get to defend his 13.5 price tag. If your looking for 2400 pts roughly at the end of the season you need a return of 24pts per million. If RVP was to deliver on that he needs to bring in 326 pts. I know this simple formula is seriously flawed and doesn't include price rises and transfers with fixtures and lots of other stuff but what return can RVP bring in to justify 13.5. I also still have him but I'm starting to crack...

This is the "moneyball" approach and makes perfect sense.

You're trying to justify his value by points per pound. What he gives is a high scoring, arbeit inefficient, rate that is also consistent. That's his value.

Would being the top scorer in the league by 5-10 goals cover it?

Rvp is an awesome player who had a great season last year but is now playing for a better team. Utd do have more options to rotate him but he is the best finisher at the club so hard to know how much game time he'll miss.

Lets not also forget that last year was his first injury free year in the premiership so whilst history is a helpful guide to future success its not like he's coming off an Shearer-esque 3/4 seasons over 30 goals in a row....

making him captain...week after week...will give you 314 points...
No... not on last season...but on the season before last...!!! (2010-11) where he was only half as good....

His value per pound has increased season after season...

Manchester united gets penalties...almost once every 3 weeks...RVP should be wiser not to attempt chips anymore...He is on corners...for Vidic, Evans to climb on..
