A busy day packed full of articles is brought to a close by our Friday evening regular. As always, we roll out a trio of overlooked alternatives ahead of tomorrow morning’s 11.30 deadline, with only one of our featured three owned by more than 1% of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers…

Arouna Kone

Wigan’s summer signing from Levante arrived at the DW with plenty expectation heaped on his shoulders. Kone produced 15 goals and four assists in a sensational La Liga campaign last term, helping his side upset the odds and earn a sixth place finish in the Spanish top flight. So far, the Ivorian has been key to the Latics’ attacking forays, playing a part in five of their eight strikes, with three goals and a couple of assists already accrued.

In the FPL game, the 6.5 priced Kone has resultantly racked up 35 points, earning almost five points per start, but, despite returning a point more than the likes of Nikica Jelavic, Kone has an ownership of just 0.8%. In the Sky Sports game, he also has impressed – priced at 7.7, he is joint-fifth for forwards, with 41 points already returned. Further analysis of the stats shows Kone has been involved in four of Wigan’s five home goals this term – with visitors West Ham failing to keep a clean sheet in each of their last four matches, the Ivorian could be a decent punt this weekend for those Fantasy managers looking for something a little different for their third striker slot.

Samir Nasri

With David Silva ruled out due to a hamstring problem and Yaya Toure likely to play deeper due to injuries and suspensions to others, we’re rolling the dice on the Frenchman ahead of City’s home clash against Swansea. The former Arsenal man has only started two home league matches this term, with wildly contrasting fortunes; the season opener with Southampton harvested a goal, assist and maximum bonus points for a 12 point FPL haul, while QPR’s visit to the Etihad in Gameweek 3 resulted in nothing more than a two point return.

Nasri brings decent form into the Swans’ showdown tomorrow evening, though; having recently returned from a hamstring injury, he grabbed his side’s only goal in Wednesday’s disappointing defeat at Ajax. Fantasy managers may have doubts over Roberto Mancini’s starters up front for this one but Nasri looks nailed-on to begin the game; priced at 8.2 in FPL and 7.6 in the Sky Sports game, he has just 4.8% ownership and could flourish against a side that has shipped an average of two goals per game over the last six fixtures, as the champions go in search of their fourth straight victory.

Brett Holman

Finally, we end on a real punt; the Australian international is the definition of a differential, with a mere 0.1% FPL ownership thus far. Holman – who arrived in England on the back of a campaign that harvested four goals and 10 assists for AZ Alkmaar in 2011/12 – has yet to produce any attacking returns this term but, both in terms of creativity and threat, has been one of Aston Villa’s most impressive performers so far ; a fact acknowledged by Paul Lambert only a fortnight ago, with the former Norwich boss saying:

“Brett’s been unlucky not to score, but he’s playing really, really well at this time. He’s not shy to have a shot on goal and he’s a creative player. I always think if creative players can make things happen and score a goal or maybe slide the odd ball through, then you’ve got a player on your hands. It’s important we share the goals around. We need that threat but Brett’s all-round game is good at the minute, really good. He’s got energy to burn, and he’s a top lad as well. If he keeps going the way he’s going he’ll have a really good season. He’s got a great desire for the game, a great enthusiasm for the game. Aston Villa are fortunate to have him.”

Priced at 5.6 in FPL and 5.7 in the Sky Sports game, Holman plays host to a Norwich City side that have conceded 11 goals in their first four games on the road. If Lambert is to get the better of his former employers, tomorrow would be the perfect time for the summer signing to start producing.

I thought about bringing in Newcastle defense, but wouldn't it be better to bring in Stoke City defense first, like Huth? I was also considereing doing Tevez to Ba this week, that or replacing Michu.

You already have Stoke's clean sheet returns covered with Begovic, Newcastle have good upcoming fixtures and Zabaleta is injured. I would keep Tevez for the Swansea game, he is bound to start and Swansea are leaking goals at the moment. Also keep Michu, he is playing OOP.

That's a good point, it might be a little much to have two of the Stocke City defense. I am just worried that Newcastle won't keep enough cleansheets, and I am not sure how much Coloccini will be involved. If I kept Tevez and Michu, would it be smart to transfer out Lambert? If I brought in Coloccini then I could swap Lambert for Crouch, or if I brought in a 4.6 or lower defender I could swap Lambert out for Fletcher.

I would much rather downgrade Zabaleta than Hangeland, since Hangeland is almost a guranteed starter. I could bring on Sterline for Guthrie, but I am still not sure who I should swap Zabaleta for.

Zabaleta out Gorkss or wilson in? Because of your low team value and 3x 5+mil def and baines your mid+attack suffers. I would try to get some money out of that def and upgrade mid in the future.

Wilson is a good option, I am just worried of having two Stoke City defenders. I completely agree though, I need to upgrade my midfield more. I was thinking that if I brought on Wilson my next move(If I was making another transfer this week) would be Tevez to Ba, Lambert to Fletcher, or Guthrie to Sterling. Do you think I should do any of those?

Nothing wrong to have 2 def from the same team. Lambert to Fletcher is not good in my opinion. Fletcher is good poacher but sunderlands attacking play is just horrible at the moment. Tevez to Ba is something i am looking after the Liverpool game. Tevez is scoring points and looks likely to start against Swansea so i would hold fire there also. Guthrie to Sterling would be your best bet, but looks like Guthrie is starting also and has decent game so would not do it. When you are going to wildcard? Not sure it would be the worst move to change the sructure of your team more top heavy.

I'd like to wildcard some time soon, I feel like I already should have wildcarded a couple of weeks ago. I might wildcard after this gameweek, but I definately wouldn't wildcard before this gameweek seeing as there is only a little bit of time before this gameweek starts and I don't want to make any bad decisions. Wilson is probably the best option in defense for me then, unless you think it would be better to have someone from Newcastle like Santon? I agree Guthrie to Sterling would be my best bet right now, but I don't feel like it would be worth a four point hit to bring Sterling in this week.

Newcastle defender would be decent bet. Not sure better than Wilson cause once again you are putting 5mil def in there. Point predictions would be similar i guess.

If you are wildcarding anytime soon you could look in to this def idea. Baines+Wilson to play every week. Nelsen+Gorkss+Clyne to rotate for the last spot. You will get great fixture for your cheap def every week till gameweek 20 or something. And it saves some money.

Alright, I will proabably do Zabaleta to Wilson this week and then I'll consider wild-carding next week. That looks like a good idea for defense, I'll have to look in to it when I am wildcarding. Thanks for help, good luck this week!

Time for one question before retiring:

    Is Haz>Bale for a 4pter worth it?

Feel like hBale's next 2 fixtures are too hard to ignore. And it would also give me a good captain option for next week when Bale has Wig at home and my other big hitters have tough games (RVP, Caz, Ba, Haz)

Been checking out the Man c player ratings for the Ajax game, Lescott Richards and Dzeko seemm to have been the worst of the bunch
Wouldnt want to have any of those this weekend

Surely going to be Tevez and Aguero up front with Nasri in the hole

Although one alternative could be Barlotelli and aguero up front , Nasri in the hole and Tevez out wide in place of Milner
Either way it hard to imagine Tevez not starting

Is it just me or is Balotelli one of the most overrated strikers at the moment? He hardly does anything, I like his controversial actions but it seems if he wasn't so controversial nobody would even talk about him

He's not really done much this year but if I recall correctly last year he scored in most of the games he started. According to wikipedia he played 23 and scored 13 and he came on as a sub in quite a few of those games.

      Hart
      Richards, Kompany, Nastasic, Kolarov
      Barry, Yaya
      Nasri, Tevez, Sinclair
      Aguero

I can see something along the lines of this. I own Lescott by the way and am also very doubtful that he'll start. Zabaleta and Maicon are out therefore Richards is almost 100% nailed on.

It's the other way around you have to be worried about. If Sagna starts I think he'll play the 90, whereas he may come on after 50 mins etc.

Na, I'd still start Jenk. Better chance of a CS, and he should last 60 mins or not play.

Highly doubt he will be on for a cameo if Sagna, but you never know

I still think its worth starting him, much better chance of a CS than the other two

I doubt they'd sub a defender so if u wanna go risky choose the last two, 1st sub Hughes unless u got better subs

Simpson has virtually no attacking potential, whereas Santon does have some. I would get Wilson for Clark personally.
