Javier Hernandez is the hero for United after climbing off the bench to turn the game around at Villa Park. The Mexican’s double and assist earned the visitors a stunning 3-2 victory, while Andreas Weimann also bagged a brace for the beaten hosts:

On the Up

Javier Hernandez
Sent on as a sub after half-time, his introduction proved the difference for Sir Alex Ferguson’s side. Hernandez produced two goals and assist as United came from two down – Ron Vlaar was credited with an own goal for the second, after the Mexican’s strike was deemed to be off target before a deflection helped it into the Villa net.

Andreas Weimann
A peripheral figure in the Villa set-up of late, the Austrian was handed his first start since Gameweek 4 this evening. Weimann notched both Villa’s goals and has surely staked a claim for a regular role, bearing in mind that the hosts had previously scored more than a single goal just once in their opening 10 matches.

Christian Benteke
Having supplied attacking returns in each of his previous two, the Belgian maintained his strong recent form with an assist for Weimann’s opener. The skill and strength displayed in bettering Chris Smalling and composure to set up the Austrian, allied with his current form, has more than vindicated Paul Lambert’s decision to start Benteke over Darren Bent.

Going Down

United Defence
Once again, United’s backline failed to keep out their opponents. Villa had scored just twice in their four league matches prior to this evening but Weimann’s strike just before the break means United have now trailed in seven of their 11 league matches – as this evening’s game showed, grinding out results is simply not an option for Sir Alex Ferguson’s side.

Ashley Young
He’d played 90 minutes in the previous wins over Chelsea and Arsenal but an insipid first-half display against his former club saw the winger subbed off for Hernandez at the break. With a single assist to his name this term, Young is showing little to suggest he deserves a regular role for the league leaders.

        The same scores last season would have been pretty poor, mostly owing to a large amount of hat-tricks (from Roo/RVP/Kun/Ba and the rather consistent exploits of Nani/Silva/Bale/Dempsey)

    Arsene Wenger on whether Cazorla wanted to take the penalty…

    "Cazorla is second on the list, the No 1 is Arteta. If he doesn't take it it's Cazorla, or if Arteta wants to leave it to Cazorla. Cazorla wanted to take the ball. Arteta is No 1 on the priority."

    Perhaps a chance of Cazorla being given the next one?

      I think it's probably just a precautionary measure considering he's on his way back from injury. He and Gera play similar roles and they might have been putting up the shutters with 20 minutes to go. I wouldn't worry too much, back in the side and notches a goal!

          I'd say frustration with the Champions League will intensify interest in repeating for the League title. Aguero hasn't yet 'clicked', but with a consistent run - he will.

          Silva is as important as Kompany or Yaya for that team. Until he is back, and Kun too, then City are outsiders for the title.

              You can't ignore how Fellaini is playing this season. He's become a forward.
              Assists potential too because of all his knock downs.

              If Fellaini wasn't on 4 yellows, I'm be getting him in too.

    Hows it going people, it looks like it was a good day at the office for the FFS community. Green arrows all round 🙂

    Not long after the games ended today I did a dirty triple kneejerk as I was pissed off about not having Fellaini despite concluding that Fellaini was a much better prospect than Pienaar going forward.

    Transfers were

    Pienaar -> Fellaini
    Caz -> Walcott
    Gallas -> Caulker
    -4pts

    I had to downgrade Gallas as I was 0.1 off the first two. Of course now I know about Walcotts injury so here's hoping its nothing serious.

    Will I get found out this coming week? Or do you think I'll get away with it?

          Oops. My bad! Read it now!
          Fellaini's a bit on and off for me! Doesn't do well when I pick. I've hence decided not to touch him. That, of course makes him a good prospect! Walcott injured??

              Gallas > Caulker was a bit too sideways even though it was done to free up funds.
              Don't trust TOT defence anyway.

                Yeah I know but I didn't fancy Reading defense going forward or Norwich. I did consider going tripple Stoke defense and getting in Wilko (would have kept Caz thus not needing a hit). But then I thought that was too risky. 4.8 for a Spurs defender with good fixtures after the Arsenal game was worth it for me. He offers a much greater goal threat than Gallas as well.

                Interestingly you could argue that all 3 transfers were sideways

                Everton --> Everton
                Arsenal --> Arsenal
                Spurs --> Spurs

                    Yep. Its a shame I was 0.1 off and so had to sell Gallas. I was very close to tripling up on Stoke till I realized that Spurs have better fixtures than Stoke between now and January.

      Ryan, señor, that is a rather knee-orientated jerk... but it will probably leave you with a better side! Walcott might be ok I think but we'll find out in due time. Not sure about Caulker with BAE training again, and Spurs not showing much resolve at the back. See how it goes for a week or two and stay patient!

        Even if Walcott missed the next game I wouldn't mind too much because I have Sterling (WIG) who can come off the bench. But yeah I hope he will be ok after that. The thing with Caulker is that he offers a good goal threat and is a much better option than Gallas. I would even fancy Gallas dropping to the bench when BAE returns although it is a concern that he is training again, I didn't know that.

        Thats why I got a cheapie defence. Baines Cuellar Ridg Demel and Clyne with Begs and foster. I dont want chelsea defenders. Rafael would be good but i think he could be rotated soon.

          I chose the wrong cheapie defense to start the season.

          Hangeland - Ashley Will - Coloccini + 2 4.0s. Yikes.

          Should have gotten a Brom defender and a Stokie instead.

          Yeah I wish I went for Rafael at the start of the season. For 5.5 he was a bargain but we've definitely missed the boat now.

          I too have Baines + 4 ubers. Its the best strategy but sometimes there can be good value in the 5-6m range.

            Rafael was the first defender I wanted when I saw the prices during preseason.

            I was worried however that he would be zapped after playing for Brazil in the Olympics.

            In spite of all the Baines love around here, I'm thinking of doing Baines > (someone from the top 4) after this week. Might save some cash.
            Decent idea considering that EVE don't look like getting many CS' and the assist points for Baines(every now and then) might be got by the CS the other defender gets.

          It depends how much game time Chicha will get really. Its the two striker roles and the LW role that is up for grabs between Rooney/RVP/Kagawa/Chicha/Welbeck. Then there is always the chance Rooney could play CM

    Dempsey took a penalty when Ade was on the pitch. No one fancies Dempsey over Bale?

      I have been shot down a few times for suggesting Demps. At the moment, Tottenham is just off my radar.

      Dempsey may be dropped if AVB decides to play both Defoe and Adebayor.

      I have 42 with Ba and Hazard to go.

      I understand why you would bench Berba. I don't think you will ever bench him again after this gw.

    Question for other Man U fans.

    When Hernandez came on did United play the narrow diamond? (apart from Valencia still drifting wide?)

    Because there wasn't really a LW and perhaps all of Rooney/RVP and Hernandez filled in and rotated a bit on the left hand side.

      Rooney drifted down the left primarily Ryan.

        ------Smalling------------------Rio----------
        Rafael---Carrick-----Clevs--------Evra----------------
        Valencia----------RVP----------------Rooney----------
        -------------------Chicha----------------------------------------

        Once ando came on Clevs moved to the left and Ando in Clevs' place.

            It was more a 4-4-2 with Wingbacks doubling up. Formation will keep changing with opposition.
