Monitor – Dimitar Berbatov

Back in Gameweek 11, Dimitar Berbatov appeared to have sealed the deal. Having fetched a brace and assist in Fulham’s outstanding display at Arsenal, the Bulgarian looked an essential purchase as a third striker option, used in tandem with two heavy-hitters – most likely Robin Van Persie and Luis Suarez.

Under the crafty stewardship of Martin Jol once again, and with form and strong fixtures in front of him, Berbatov looked primed to add to his impressive early goal tally. Since the disappointing home defeat to Sunderland in Gameweek 12, however, he has drawn blanks in every game, a spell that has coincided with the injury and absence of Bryan Ruiz.

With news of the Costa Rican suffering a hamstring setback which could keep him sidelined for another month, it seems timely to examine Berbatov’s form in more detail. In this latest article for members we check on how the absence of Ruiz has changed the Bulgarian’s game, whilst assessing the chances of an upturn in fortunes as Fulham’s fixture list continues to grant Berbatov a platform for returns.

Let’s start by rolling back to Gameweek 11 to examine just how prosperous Berbatov had been in his first six starts for Fulham. Despite missing matches against City and Southampton, the striker had been in outstanding form between Gameweeks 4-11, notching five goals and earning three assists on his way to nine Fantasy Premier League (FPL) bonus points. The double figure return at Arsenal confirmed his class and seemingly “fixture-proof” status and, with an array of attractive opponents in front of him, all looked rosy.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Another DGW and he's definitely in my team. To be honest I think it's mainly a matter of the midfield creating chances for him. And they did it well last night.

Didn't see the analysis. All I know is there are two components.
      1) Mentality. He's looks more and more fed up playing football, something that can happen to players who have been successful since they were very young. Torres has had about 8-9 years of being a very big player.
      2) Physical. I think this is the big problem, it might even be adding to the negative mentality. After his surgery his speed has not been the same at all. If they were to give him a few weeks out of football and did pure sprint and running work with him every day I reckon he could regain at least 80% of his old speed.

Basically, it depends on how they approach it. If they do the training that may help a lot, if they don't bother then he's not going to be great again.

ok lads, so dilemma over Bale remains, do I keep him and maybe look to get Gardner in fir Sterling (opening up funds for Suarez)

Do I ship him if so for who?

    Caz - unreliable and costly?

Sess - will need to be shipped next week

Clunt - tough fixture this week and is he nailed on?

    Any other options?

I don't see the point in holding him.

I wouldn't even consider Sess if it wasn't for DGW, but I could very easily sell Sterling to Gardner and then sell Berba to Suarez next week, though I'm loathed to sell berba

Repost to get it on this page apologies for spam

TFF Fantasy Football, 30 transfers a season, no subs, no wc, no captain etc.

    My team:

    Begovic
    Enrique Mertesacker Ivanovic
    Bale Cazorla Michu Fellaini
    RVP Ba Suarez

Only took Bale in last week and now AVB says he "might" be available for Stoke in three weekends time.

Thing is I have only 15 transfers left.

Should I ride out his injury, even if he might be out for three weeks? Or make a transfer? If so, for who...can afford anyone. Top of my ML by a small margin, but the big scoring part of the season is in january with FA Cup games, so need transfers left by then!

    Cheers guys.

I'd consider holding Bale with limited transfers. Right now, contenders in midfield look sparse - City and Silva are probably your best option but, Sunday could be a struggle for goals and Newcastle away hardly looks a goal fest - by which time Bale could return.

Probably wise advice. Really need to try and hold transfers for January / FA Cup. My only problem is heading into this week with 9 men (maybe 8 if Ba is injured) and the next with 10 ... provided noone else gets injured!

    Begovic (mannone)
    rafael enrique cueller (davies demel)
    michu cazorla fellaini sterling (bale)
    rvp berba fletcher (c)

Have 1.7m and 1FT. So i have a few issues as to what to do with bale, rafael and fletcher (is he fit)
A: save FT and reasses next week…possibly take out rafael + fletcher >> suarez/augero + cheap def
    B: rafael >> baines
    C: bale + fletcher >> sess + defoe for a 4point hit
    D: cazorla + fletcher >> sess + giroud for a 4 point hit
E: bale >>> sess this week and fletch to Defoe next week....

Odds of fletcher startin this week?

I'm debating whether to bring him in for Bale, simply because I'll need to sell him again next week.

Was all set on saving my transfer this week but the Bale news has thrown me. Got 1 free, 0.7 in the bank.

            Begovic (Foster)
            Enrique Cuellar Shorey Cameron (Nelsen)
            Cazorla Fellaini Michu Sterling (Bale)
            RVP Berbatov (Suarez)

            A. Bale > Walcott (obviously already have Caz, but could pay off for a few games with fixtures. Would then get one out for Bale when fit)
            B. Bale > Sess
            C. Bale > Dempsey
            D. Still save it.

This is what we actually have - http://www.tottenhamhotspur.com/spurs/News/team-news-05122012.page

AVB: “We have to be a little more cautious with Gareth and wait and see, but hopefully he’s not that bad. We might see him available for the Stoke game.”

This suggests that he is very very likely to miss TWO games and MIGHT miss more.

I would not advice anyone to carry him through this period unless you have reason to believe AVB is either lying or doesn't know what he's talking about.

Is HRK fairly nailed on? Might just to Walcott to HRK, which would facilitate a front line of RVP, Aguero and Suarez next week.

Unless MON comes out and says that he is 100% OK, it would be tough to captain him, no Evs? I'd love to be able to (c) the Messi of Shrewsbury.

Hmmm, I notice even Mark has put a Santa hat on the now infamous Scout grav.

Excuse the ignorance, but who's in your grav? And yes, you need a gravhat.
