Sunderland seal a crucial win over Reading to drag themselves out of the drop zone. James McClean and Steven Fletcher grab the first-half goals, while Stephane Sessegnon leaves his Fantasy owners frantic before finally slotting home a late third.

On the Up

Stephane Sessegnon
Over 68,000 FPL managers drafted in the Benin international prior to the double Gameweek deadline – Steven Fletcher, Adam Johnson and James McClean had a combined tally of around 36,000. With seconds to go, we were cursing our luck as it seemed he was to disappoint but Sessegnon duly delivered to put a smile on plenty Fantasy managers’ faces. With United, City, Spurs and Liverpool in his next five, though, many will be already planning an exit.

Steven Fletcher
Martin O’Neill was particularly cagey over the forward’s chances of starting tonight after his recent ankle injury. Fletcher missed out against Chelsea at the weekend but managed to shrug off the problem to notch his seventh strike of the season. Now up to 74 points in FPL, he’s ahead of the likes of Wayne Rooney but the above-mentioned run of upcoming fixtures is likely to deter many more from investing.

Adam Johnson
The former City man benefitted from an “FPL” assist earlier this evening. A corner from Johnson was cleared by the visitors defence but only as far as James McClean – the winger’s converted attempt boosted his fellow wide man’s double Gameweek haul. Johnson has now produced attacking returns in five of his last seven appearances, though his owners were denied the chance of further points after he was subbed off at half-time with a leg problem.

James McClean
Prior to the double Gameweek, the winger had managed a single assist all season and had started just two of Sunderland’s previous six. Having provided an assist for Adam Johnson’s consolation against Chelsea at the weekend, he needed just one minute to open his account for the season and suggest he’s starting to come into form after a poor first half of the campaign.

Going Down

Kaspars Gorkss
As expected, Sean Morrison failed to recover from the ankle injury sustained against Southampton last weekend. Surprisingly, though, it was Alex Pearce who was given the nod to start alongside Adrian Mariappa, suggesting the Latvian has slipped even further down the pecking order for a spot at centre-half.

Phil Bardsley
Having started the previous six, his place at right-back seemed assured since recovering from a hamstring injury. It was something of a surprise, then, to see Bardsley dropped to the bench, with Craig Gardner preferred at right-back instead. He came on after the break to replace the injured Johnson but lasted just 31 minutes before limping off injured.

Sunderland Injuries
Martin O’Neill has plenty concerns ahead of the weekend trip to United. Danny Rose joined Johnson and Bardsley in limping off – in a defensive reshuffle, Carlos Cuellar finished the match at right-back as Titus Bramble entered the fray at centre-half. If the injuries are carried into the weekend, Robin Van Persie and Wayne Rooney owners will be even more confident of returns.

Although I'm not too sure about Rooney. Rest all looks good. And I would have started Hughes at home against Newcastle than Rafael away against City. But I guess that's why I'm not the leader...

I really don't like Rafael. Consistently got me 1's and 2's (even a -1 once). Didn't justify his price tag. The week I sold him he scores 9 points against City away.
My point is, he's really unpredictable. I'd rather have Baines over him. Although, I, personally would have neither of them and buy big-money forwards and mids.

I'll add the rather precarious double Arsenal midfield of Cazorla & Walcott. I'm still confident of plenty of goals for my team with the fixtures we've got over the next two months. We just need to have someone up front other than Chamakh or Gervinho.

in my 1st 2 seasons when i didnt have a clue what i am doing i was constantly taking pts hits and that cost me rank like crazy

this season i take only 8pts hits and that's cause rooney and jelly were injureed

my team valute isn't great but i really like luxure of haveing 2FT's very often so i compleatly ignoreed this dgw and i managed to score decent

          Exactly.

There's no set formula for getting it right, inevitably it involves a lot of luck along the way to get a good score in FPL.

Sometimes you hold on to a player/players too long and end up losing ground until you have to sell them. Other times taking a player/players out straight away immediately improves your position for the weeks to come.

Luck changes during a season too, which is why massive mini league leads get chased and overtaken. A lot of times you can go 9 or 10 weeks where nothing goes your way and everyone above you gets all the breaks.

Then, next thing you know all their moves start backfiring and you're the one whose bench players suddenly start coming on autosub in the week they get you 12 pt hauls.

Yes im planning no City cover. Too much rotation of the forwards. And what's the point of getting Silva just for the sake of him being nailed on, that's hardly a valid reason. Arteta's nailed on! The likes ofMata and Bale for the same price have more goals in them and are therefore comfortably the better options. Plus Silva will get subbed often.

Bale has a few more goals but far less assists and I cant see Mata scoring more for the season- this start has been a fluke IMO and playing for the lesser team. Silva also a huge differ if you are wrong :). Anyway that is my opinion.

He will tho. No CL to worry about. The next 2/3 months will be all about the PL. And Silva will play a major part

so Ba tends to score every 3rd game

He drew a blank last night, may weel draw a blank v City

If you own Ba, the game after that is QPR.

The point I'm making is, Ba is likely to find the net in that game, given QPR are away, you have a legitimate (c) option there

lord help me, come GW20 I'm looking at getting in Torres for Long. 🙄

Not seeing any striker for around 9.5 or less with awesome fixtures.

Of course i could just get the dependable Mr. Ba and leave him there

And so on the fourth day it came to pass that many Fantasy Managers were well pleased.

The great warrior named Fletcher bravely shrugged off his wounds and helped slay the hapless. Aided by Sessegnon, the forgotten McLean, Cuellar and finally AJ, who later limped from the battlefield, a glorious victory was had.
