Today’s big news is that Michu has been ruled out of Swansea’s trip to Fulham tomorrow after picking up an ankle injury at Reading on Boxing Day. Michael Laudrup remains uncertain whether his top goalscorer will be ready to face Villa on New Year’s Day, stating he may be available “with a little luck”.

Luis Suarez has been passed fit to turn out for Liverpool’s trip to QPR as both sides look to bounce back from Boxing Day defeats, while Harry Redknapp is hopeful Ryan Nelsen can shake off a virus in time for Sunday’s game. Carlos Tevez failed to train due to illness yesterday but “should” be fit, according to City assistant boss David Platt. Gael Clichy and Samir Nasri are both back, though Mario Balotelli is likely to miss out with illness once again.

Over at United, Sir Alex Ferguson hopes to have Ashley Young and Danny Welbeck available after they missed out against Newcastle. Phil Jones will be assessed, while Shinji Kagawa could make the bench, according to his manager, who also ruled Wayne Rooney out “for at least another two games”. Jonas Olsson, Youssouf Mulumbu and Goran Popov are all “major doubts” for West Brom ahead of their Old Trafford visit, though.

The injuries mount up for Paul Lambert as Villa prepare for the visit of Wigan. Andreas Weimann and Nathan Baker have been ruled out for the midlands outfit as they look to bounce back from a couple of recent hammerings.

    I can see here everybody has gut feelings on Suarez, Theo, Bale, Berba for (c).

    All i can say is, if you trully have the gut feeling, go for it. I am going for Theo (c)

      I'm doing Cazorla. Has some rest in him and Newcastle has injury problems forcing them to push forward and attack. I think Cazorla will get a fair share of chances. Walcott looks good too.

    One thing i’ve noticed which i’m benefiting from this season is playing my players regardless of fixtures. In the past I would be blinded by fixtures and if a player was up against the top 4/5 teams I would normally bench.

    Berbatov and Michu at the Emirates, Rafael at the Etihad, Cuellar v City just some that I can remember. Sometimes it’s too tempting to have the ideal team on paper with the nicest looking fixtures but it doesn’t always pan out like that.

      Rafael's been the problem for me, scored 25 of his 63 points in the 3 games I benched him (liv, che, mci). What a bastard.

          Unless its the one with the greatest potential in the game.

          I expected Utd to get more than 2 CS in 19 games. Their stats in recent seasons suggests they should have got around 10.

      As long as the savings are invested in a big hitting midfielder, it could well pay off nicely. Cole is in good form, and even if Wham are fairly pants, the fixtures are great.

    i got him for the 2nd time at a later period,and currently have the sell value 7.9.
    so when he drops for 0.3 will be still able to get for 8.0 .

    Really tempted by a leftfield punt of Tevez -> Podolski in preparation for the DGW. After illness and missed training, Tevez will be warming the bench. Podolski's history doesn't make happy reading though!

    I keep getting unlucky with regards to playing Mignolet and Begovic and benching the wrong one. I usually go for the favourable fixture which doesn't seem to be working for these two.

    Any strategy you recommend? I could just decide on the best GK for that week and do the opposite.
