Liverpool brush past a woeful QPR as Luis Suarez masterminds a first half dismantling of the R’s defence. Over at Goodison, Everton’s unbeaten home record is snatched by another efficient Chelsea display under Rafa Benitez as Frank Lampard fires a brace. Here’s the Notes from Sunday’s two Gameweek 20 encounters…

Suarez Torments The Hapless R’s
Two more strikes from Luis Suarez capped a performance that simply dazzled QPR’s centre-back pairing of Ryan Nelsen and Clint Hill. The R’s rearguard failed to find answers for the Uruguayan’s movement and his confidence was clear throughout – Fantasy managers without Suarez will be thankful that he failed to add to his early two goal tally as the match progressed. Before the late goal against Fulham at Anfield in Gameweek 18, Suarez had gone four league starts without a strike – his longest run without Fantasy returns this season. We’ve seen a new level of consistency from the Liverpool man, then, suggesting that forthcoming fixtures against Sunderland, United and Norwich could continue to bring profit. The schedule does stiffen, however, with Arsenal and City to follow soon after the United visit – Suarez will have to demonstrate fixture proof status if he is to keep pace with the leading forwards on show – Robin Van Persie and Demba Ba. So far in the Gameweek, interest in Suarez has been tempered with Ba enjoying twice as many new suitors off the back of his brace at the Emirates and perhaps talk of a move to Stamford Bridge in January.

Gerrard’s Quiet Resurgence Continues
While our attentions turn to the likes of Juan Mata and Marouane Fellaini in the light of Gareth Bale’s one-match ban, Steven Gerrard sits out of the limelight having scored or assisted in his last five league starts. Gerrard’s consistency in December has been superb and has seen him scale the FPL midfielder rankings and has threatened to establish him as a viable transfer target once more. A punt on Gerrard as a Bale replacement with Sunderland visiting Anfield on Wednesday would seem a decent move, although this would likely only be a short-term measure; as mentioned, Liverpool’s schedule hands them a series of tough opponents that will likely dent attacking potential over the next month.

Mata Makes His Case
The Spaniard is another who has shown a frightening level of consistency to earn himself a constant stream of Fantasy suitors. His assist and two bonus points from Chelsea’s 2-1 win at Goodison means that, like Gerrard, he has returned in his last five league starts. With QPR at the Bridge on Wednesday, Mata looks well placed to earn investment with some Bale owners looking to swap their suspended asset. The concern with Mata is, of course, rotation within the Chelsea squad. Mata has started the last four league outings, with Eden Hazard, Oscar and Victor Moses all rotated around him – that would suggest that Mata could be benched for the visit of Rangers. However, with Victor Moses and Mikel set to leave for the African Cup of Nations, it would seem likely that Benitez will recall that pair for Wednesday’s game, while Oscar was also only given 6 minutes of action at Goodison. That would perhaps make Eden Hazard more vulnerable, with Moses or Oscar taking his role out wide, though it remains to be seen if Benitez will gamble on facing Harry Redknapp’s side without both Hazard and Mata.

Luiz Cementing Midfield Role
Significantly, Rafa Benitez opted to leave Mikel on the bench at Everton, restoring Ramires to his midfield and keeping David Luiz in a midfield pairing with the recalled Frank Lampard. Luiz was at his combative best, earning a sixth booking of the season but there can also be no doubt that he does offer some attacking menace in this advanced role, while he’s also added himself to the pecking order at direct free-kicks. With Mikel set to depart for African Cup of Nations duty after Chelsea’s FA Cup tie, Luiz would seem well placed to retain the midfield role for fixtures against Stoke, Arsenal, Reading and Newcastle. Three of that four are away from home, but, while clean sheets could be difficult to earn, Luiz will at least offer the chance of attacking points. A full 0.5 cheaper than Branislav Ivanovic and with just 4% ownership, Luiz looks a decent January wildcard consideration.

Turnbull Set For R’s Start
We could be offered a decent budget option in the Chelsea goal for Gameweek 21, with Ross Turnbull, priced at just 4.3 in the FPL, set to start in the absence of the injured Petr Cech. Chelsea’s number one was withdrawn at half-time at Goodison after suffering “a strained adductor muscle at the top of his leg” and will be a doubt for the quick turnaround in fixtures. Rafa brought us this post-match on Cech’s situation…

“He felt something. We have to wait, but obviously we didn’t want to take any risk…We’ll have to do a scan and see…These things depend on the doctors.”

Benitez also confirmed that the QPR game would likely come too soon for John Terry.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    About to pull the trigger.

    Begovic 3.9M
    Mertsacker Nastasic Enrique* Clyne Nelsen
    Mata Bale Walcott Michu Sterling*
    RVP Berbatov Suarez

    1FT

    A) Enrique + Sterling -> Fellaini + Pearce (-4)

Gives me a weak defender but a big front 8 which while being a luxury is also going to give selection/benching headaches.

    B) Berbatov + Enrique -> Jelavic + 5M defender

Gives me a good defence and no benching headaches. Also, i think maybe this is a route to avoid Fellaini and the benching dillemas that i might fear.

    Go with A?

It's not just a benching dilemma...its a waste having that much value sat on your bench each week.

Both are poor options imo. Just pick a heavyweight 11 and subs who will play.

Have a look at Everton Fulham rotation, because more often than not Berba will be the one you bench, and if Ful rotate well with Eve, then you can alternate benching Fell and Berb for home games.

    - Chelsea winning the CL final - Drogba penalty wins the final for Chelsea
    - The incredible title race - Aguero scoring in the last seconds to clinch the title
    - Celtic beating Barcelona
    - Messi breaking Muller's record and making history
    - THAT amazing goal from Ibra
    - CR7 scores the goal that wins the title at the Nou Camp
    - Henry makes his dream return to Arsenal and scores on his debut v Leeds

Yes...no doubt at all...Football just get's better and better...I sat through endless crap in the seventies and eighties...0-0 draws seemed to be the norm with teams spending more time passing across the back four and back to the goalie than actually playing...just rubbish...No rose tinted glasses for me. The best football ever played is being played right now and the best player ever to play is playing right now...!!

    Awww man 🙁

I had just finished eating my high fibre cereal, then went to the shop.

While in the shop, I realised that I had to take a shite, so I kinda rushed, to get back to the toilet.

It was touch & go, but I managed to get back home in time, but my brother had just finished taking a piss & he didnt flush the toilet.

As I was in such a rush to take a shit, I never bothered flushing the toilet before I starting shiting.

The first bit of shite came out of my ass quite fast, so fast that it splashed my brothers piss up onto my ass cheeks!!

So, there I was, just sitting on the toilet, with my knickers around my ankles, kinda relieved that I had took my shit, but yet a bit annoyed that I had my brothers piss all over my ass 🙁

Anyway, thanks for reading, I guess I better go get a shower.

    Happy new year everyone 🙂

Mmmm... I'd do it if you are happy to leave him out until the WC. After this game his next two are tricky and as you would have lost the £ on him already I wouldn't rush to get him back in.

It's a big call... especially for a hit!

What to do with this lot? Any transfer would be for a hit

    Jussi
    Cameron Mertesacker Demel
    Walcott Silva Michu Noble
    RVP Ba Berba
    Subs: Bego Nelsen Enrique Bale
    0 FT, £0.1 bank

    A) Enrique>Azpil (short term - best CS potential this GW)
    B) Enrique>Gibbs (long term - wanted him in my WC anyway and will ship Mert out)
    C) Enqrique > Vertonghen (best fixtures up to WC)
    D) Other suggestion / do nothing

    Cheers

My aunt got a laptop for Christmas. Windows 8, i have to show her how to use it, i am a Mac man. So let me get this straight, you have to go from the 'Start' screen IE, to Desktop IE everytime if you want to stream something?

I guess so, until they sort out some more Windows 8 apps for that sort of thing. Which might be never.

The whole layout is incredibly difficult for rookies (my aunt). Whatever happened to classic desktop!

Making classic desktop effectively an application might make sense to some twisted nerds in Microsoft but it's a disaster for most people.

I was really hoping Microsoft might take their good start with Metro UI and create a worthwhile competitor to the iPad but they've dropped the ball IMO.

    1) chances on michu starting?
    2) A: bale >> fellaini and next week tarabt >> bale
    B: tarabt + Enrique >> fellaini + Hughes

A allows me chance to field 4 mids in tarabt fellaini sterling Walcott (michu) bt wastes an FT it sell and buy bale back

B allows me to only field 3 mids in fellaini Walcott sterling and play 4 in defense.

Am leaning towards B as I can bring in Nolan next week as opposed to buying bale back. Also under scenario A, having tarabt against Chelsea won't result in points anyways,

I think Arsenal is the worst possible team to have for DGW. First, they play hot-cold and they can shine one game and then play the worst game they can.... And second, the have so many players who can get big haul - Walcott, Cazorla, Podolski, Giroud, Gibbs (Gerwinho 😀 )....if they...

Also, they have City before and Chelsea during. Still... it won't stop me getting 3.
