The Knee Jerk

It’s an altogether depressing experience trying (read struggling) to muster up a Sunday knee jerk when there is only one game and that game happens to be Blackburn against West Brom. With the greatest respect to the two teams involved, from a fantasy football and an entetainment perspective, if I could have handpicked a game I was less interested in I would have found it an impossibility.

Sometimes these games sparkle however and can provide an opportunity to scout for potential players going forward. Sometimes they can even be better than the Rolls Royce games between the big boys. Unfortunately on both counts this didn’t materialise.

Blackburn were triumphant in the clash and whilst the Lancashire clubs fixtures are amenable they notably don’t have an upcoming double game week. WIth this in mind investment in players from Blackburn will surely be limited. Two players which did catch the eye however were Roque Santa Cruz and Junior Hoilett. The former making his first start for the club since his return on loan from Manchester City and the later scoring his first goal in the Premier League.

It remains to be seen whether the Paraguayan can return to the form he displayed when he was being assisted by a certain David Bentley and at 6.5 on the Official FPL game there are surely better prospects elsewhere. Hoilett on the other hand caught the eye for his absolute screamer of a goal and a busy contribution to Blackburn’s win. He stood out in the game as one of the main sources of attack for Rovers but at 4.0 and down as a striker, rather than out wide where he plays in reality, he really doesn’t provide any real prospect of finding a way into our fantasy football teams.

West Brom struggled yet again away from home and the pressure on Roberto Di Matteo is growing as his team trundles through a dip in form. The Baggies do however have a double gameweek forthcoming both games of which are at home. Thoughts of investment in players like Chris Brunt and Peter Odemwingie, who although both quiet today are always good for a goal or assist, should not therefore be tempered by the Midlands club poor away record.

Fact – this game had the most ever different nationalities participating in one game in the Premier League. That was probably the only thing I found interesting from this game.

When have people played their wildcard? Are the people who haven't planning to play it soon?

Dont know your team, but with United, Arsenal decent fixtures, worth loading up. I had to gamble, 7 of my front 8 from 3 teams was a bit eggs in basket, chasing a lead so all or bust

Me too. Although I don't drink. Used my first in GW 2 after I got wind of my initial errors in judgement.

Oh, and after the latest wildcard I'm on 108 points for the week with 8 players to play again. It was worth it.

Hoilett is only 4.0 Foch, so a good option as a 3rd striker if you're playing 5 big midfielders. Maybe I'm just clinging onto the one differential to do something this week though 🙂

Regarding my wildcard team (to be used GW 26), what do you think is a better combination?

Albrighton and Odemwingie (Albrighton 5th mid, Odemwingie 3rd striker, rotate very well).

    or

Carroll and some £4.2 deadwood in midfield.

    Thanks.

alex ferguson has food for thought now that oshea helped keep a cleanie and two assits.

Althought he prefers rafa for his attcking intent and pace over oshea's height and versatility.

Rafa has developed a bit of a discipline problem as he's been sent of twice in the past 10 months (vs bayern munich & spurs)

You are a noble young man Greg, good answer sunshine.

Be a gentleman, tell her you like her and go from there. If she's not interested, better to know now and move on. It doesn't seem like it now, but there is a world of women out there mate. Don't sweat it.

She likes you enough to go to the pics with you, so you've got to have a shot. Good luck.

Maybe just one to give you an edge, don't be dribbling when you try and tell her you like her.

Simple to the point, you like her, she's lovely etc and would she like to go for a coffee etc

There's a lot of fancy tricks that people will tell you - don't bother - girls (nice ones, not stinky hos, we can cover those another time...) like honesty, flattery and gentlemen. Trust me.

Played my wild card this week, as price rises would hurt me if i left in any longer.

    Current team:
    Begovic, Robinson
    Bardsley, Kolorov, Kelly, Djourou, Evatt
    Fabregas, VDV, Nani, Adam, Barton
    Van-persie, Tevez, Berbatov

I know my defence is light, but I think I might have just enough.
However, I'm thinking I'll get rid of Barsdley due to fixtures.
I might swap him for Carr, if they lose the match with West Ham.
    Good plan?

Prefer Murphy to Carr. Both not exactly bonus darlings, get the same clean sheets and if they both play every game till the end of the season, i am convinced Murphy will get you more attacking returns. 0.5 cheaper aswell. As you can see from my wc transfers, he has definetly been in my reconing

    Evra, Djourou, Kelly
    Fabregas, Nani, VdV, N'Zog
    Torres, Rooney, Odemwingie

    Foster, Adam, Coleman, Walker.

get rid of nasri yes, but after everton game next week. nasri points returns in past couple of weeks has been poor (althought he has always played well).

nasri is now off most of set pieces now that van persie has returned.

He does play further back. Fabregas has the greater license to roam forward when they are attacking, they cant both do it every time.

Normally, it doesn't matter if Fabregas is playing or not.

Most of the time Nasri plays wide, completely unaffected by whether it's Fabregas or Rosicky playing as the central attacking midfielder.

It doesn't actually.. Usually Rosicky plays when Cesc doesn't, and he plays in the 'Fabregas role'.

Just because the teamsheet has him down as left centre doesnt mean he plays ''wide''. When Fabs moves forward into that hole Nasri slots in behind usually. It's just what happens.

@ dandamkneejerk - What about David Murphy off birmingham, He's 3.9 million and an absolute bragain if they dont make it to the carling cup final (which is odds on after losing the first leg) then Birmingham will have a treble game week coming up soon. And with Dann out for the season looks like Murphy will play in all 3 of these games.

A midfield of Gerrard, Adam and pretty much anyone else would be a shambles.

that plus one would have to do so much running to cover the defensive ineptness of Stevie GBH and Fat Charlie, he'd run out of gas after about 20 minutes.
