Earlier this morning, Southampton’s official twitter feed were first to give Fantasy managers the heads-up of a potential double Gameweek 22. The Saints’ previously postponed trip to Chelsea – cancelled due to the latter’s World Club Championship involvement last month – has now been pencilled in for Wednesday January 16.

Whether the league clash takes place all depends on the result of tomorrow’s FA Cup Third Round match between the two clubs. If the game ends all square, the above-mentioned date will be utilised for a cup replay and the league match rescheduled for another, as yet unspecified, time – if either side win, the double Gameweek will take place.

The news now adds an unexpected twist to the winter wildcard scenario. We could now, potentially, have back-to-back double Gameweeks to plan for, bearing in mind Arsenal and West Ham have a double the following week.

Southampton also visit Villa in Gameweek 22 and, while Chelsea face a testing trip to Stoke, there’s no doubt the home clash at the Bridge looks enticing, in spite of the Blues’ surprise loss to QPR last Wednesday. Indeed, Rafa Benitez’s decision to hand Juan Mata and Eden Hazard brief second-half sub roles against Harry Redknapp’s side should ensure they both start tomorrow’s match – boosting the Blues’ chances of progress.

Demba Ba’s move to Stamford Bridge – confirmed at midday by the Blues – brings him immediately onto the radar. At this moment, Ba is still classified as a Newcastle player in Fantasy games, meaning managers could conceivably, have four Blues players for the double if they choose to load up on Benitez’s side – a very risky tactic, however, given we’ll be wanting Arsenal and West Ham options in our squads immediately afterwards. The likes of Ross Turnbull could also come into the equation, offering us a cut-price short-term keeper option if Petr Cech remains sidelined.

While nothing is set in stone yet, the news at least shakes up our tactics and offers plenty variety to our approaches – undoubtedly good news, given the many identikit RMWCT posts currently doing the rounds.

All eyes on St Mary’s tomorrow afternoon, then.

Chamakh on my watchlist 100% and I'm not joking! Never really got given a chance with us after RVP came straight back into the side, I could see him getting not far off 10 goals by the end of the season!

    WC team - thoughts appreciated!!!??

    Bunn -- Begovic
    Zabaleta -- Davies -- Gibbs -- Demel -- Cuellar
Walcott -- Silva -- Snodgrass -- Moses or Fellani -- Michu
Fletcher -- Van Persie -- Jelavic (Suarez to come back in after next 4)

Decided to focus on short/medium term as have another WC and not getting hung up on DGW players - just don't wanna be too generic!?

Primarily because if I waited and Ba was added before tomorrow I couldn't have 4 Chelsea players. FPL could be monitoring the boards so they may rush him in to stop this 'cheating'. Didn't want to take that risk. If it doesn't happen, it's no big loss. I can go back for previous team as I only lost 0.1 and this will mean Dzeko will be a no go, but I wasn't sure about him anyway. Some good choices for 7.2.

I've got Mata only, but I've got 2FTs.

Problem is, with no money in the bank to speak of it means that to get more Chelsea I would need to use 1 transfer to release cash for the other, or swap out a high value player.

Swapping out the high value player isn't a great option, as for example, I could swap Defoe to Ba or something, but then Ba is likely to only play once anyway. I'm swaying towards just sticking with Mata.

*I do hold both wildcards, so I could always use 1 to load up on the double double gameweekers, and then the other to revamp completely after they are done.

I've got 2 wildcards, so the plan is Load Up with Wildcard 1, then Unload with Wildcard 2.

Tomorrow Demba Ba will be likely listed Chelsea, so will not be able to transfer anyone again in this wildcard unless I ditch a Chelsea...

This is the wildcard team as it stands:
    DGWers:
Chelsea = Ba, Mata, Hazard, Luiz
    Southampton = Lambert, Puncheon, Shaw
    Arsenal = Walcott, Gibbs
    West Ham = Reid, Demel
Regulars = Van Persie, Michu, Begovic, Rudd (these guys I keep as long term holds and too much price inflation from original purchase.

For GW 23 I will bring in another Arsenal:
    Ba to Podolski or
    Mata to Cazorla

    Thoughts? Improvements?

In the event of a draw tomorrow - completely revise wildcard which I was going to use anyway and head back towards the Five Star midfield....

Don't see Chelsea getting many attacking returns in the stoke fixture in the DGW so not too worried about lack of coverage. Will probably just bring in Turnbull or Luiz. The same goes for Southampton, possibly Lambert but that would mean a -4 hit!

Balotelli's surely out of the running and Tevez and Aguero haven't been scoring with eachother, they usually play 2 strikers, if this divorce disturbs Aguero mentally and he can't play or is under-performing then there is only Dzeko and Tevez left.

I was on the verge of Baines & Michu > Mata & Koscielny and I just couldn't do it.

Michu has come back to bite me once already. This DGW makes it tricky

    QUESTION:

i am wildcarding already, so if i have 3 chelsea players and i get Ba in now that he is still in a newcastle shirt, when the site has him as a chelsea player later on, would i be forced to transfer him out before gameweek 22 starts?

    thanks

No, you will have 4 chelsea players for GW22. But the next time you make a transfer, you will have to lose a chelsea player.

Is Cech out for a while then - possibly deputy goalkeeper for DW?

This is a proper puzzle. Anyone who's held on to original wildcard is laughing.

Would you use it for this double-double, though? I've still got mine but planning to save it for the FA Cup semi-final double.

I dunno. I always use it pointlessly early. I think if your smart enough to save it you could benefit by using it in FA cup one. Had forgotten all about that tbh. Got caught in the moment a wee bit.

If the double is on which do you prefer -

    Luiz & Mata
    Azp & Mata
    Cahill & Mata
    Cole & Mata
    Ivanovic & Hazard
