Arsenal’s progress to Carling Cup Final courtesy of the 3-0 win over Ipswich at the Emirates tonight has disrupted the Gunners’ Premier League schedule – although that issue may well be temporary.
The Carling Cup Final is to be played on Sunday February 27 – a weekend that was to see Arsenal face off against Spurs in the North London derby at White Hart Lane. This fixture in Gameweek 28 will now be postponed, although it could well be reinstated in the same Gameweek.
Gameweek 28 has already been extended with Man United facing Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday March 1. It seems likely that Arsenal’s clash with Spurs will be shifted to a similar midweek slot, thus keeping their Gameweek 28 fixture intact.
This is all speculation of course, right now we’ve no confirmation of the rescheduled date and, with that in mind, Fantasy Managers should be wary of the possibility of an Arsenal and Spurs blank in Gameweek 28. With the Gunners facing a double fixture in Gameweek 27, this would indeed be a cruel twist.
Birmingham and West Ham meet in the second Carling Cup semi-final tomorrow night with West Ham leading 2-1. The Hammers are due to face Liverpool in Gameweek 28, while Birmingham are currently facing Chelsea at the Bridge. Both those games are therefore in doubt depending on tomorrow night’s result. Should Birmingham progress then Chelsea’s current double Gameweek would switch to a single fixture against United.
We will update our Season Tickers following tomorrow’s result.
