An ten-minute avalanche ensures that another double Gameweek delivers big returns as Arsenal’s key attacking assets come good. Over at the Liberty Stadium meanwhile, Swansea’s progress to the Capital One Cup Final is somewhat overshadowed by an extraordinary sending off for Eden Hazard. Here’s the Stock Check on Wednesday’s action…

On the Up

Lukas Podolski
Having missed Sunday’s clash through illness, the German chose the second fixture of the double Gameweek to deliver his biggest haul of the season, including a trio of quick-fire assists. Whilst he was again replaced for the fifth match running, with three home fixtures in the next four and in this form, Podolski will surely go on earning new suitors and enjoy a further price rise prior to next week’s midweek deadline.

Theo Walcott
Backed with the armband by so many Fantasy managers, Walcott delivered once again with his second goal of the Gameweek, plus the assist for Giroud’s first goal. Walcott’s consistency is there to be admired: he’s scored six goals in his last seven starts and has only failed to return in one of those matches. Regardless of whether he plays as a striker or winger, Walcott is potent.

Santi Cazorla
Arsenal’s playmaker had failed to notch since his stunning hat-trick at Reading but timed his return to the scoresheet for the double Gameweek. While he has now moved on to eight goals and assists for the season, with Walcott continuing to stream returns, only those looking for a differential or brave enough to double on Arsenal’s attacking assets, will surely consider Cazorla over Walcott right now.

Olivier Giroud
Against the odds, the Frenchman started both double Gameweek fixtures and tonight delivered unlikely returns. The brace moved him on to eight goals for the season and, at 7.8, he’s comes in cheaper than Lucas Podolski. For those looking to back the Gunners over their three home fixtures in four, Giroud is yet another differential option to consider, although his security of starts remain in question.

Going Down

The West Ham Defence
Backed with double Gameweek investment, few would have expected returns from the trip to the Emirates but, having leaked five goals, the Hammers back four has conceded 12 in their last six league outings. It’s one clean sheet in twelve and Sam Allardyce will surely make an improvement at the back a priority having regularly emphasised the need to build survival plans on shut-outs.

Joe Cole
Having notched in Saturday’s league outing with QPR, Cole was rested to the bench tonight as he continues to build his fitness on his return to regular action. While the decision to preserve Cole is understandable, it will dent the confidence of would-be investors who will now likely reserve judgement until Cole has strung together further consecutive appearances.

Eden Hazard
Dismissed for what appeared to be a kick on a Swansea City ball-boy, the Belgian will serve a violent conduct charge that will come with a three-match ban that will see him miss league matches against Reading and Newcastle. We can only wait the fall-out to see if any further action will be taken which could see the ban increased. The dismissal capped a night to forget for Rafa Benitez who started with Demba Ba up front but saw his side frustrated by the defiant Swans.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Our best team atm when fit would be

          ----------------Krul
          Debuchy Yanga-Mbiwa Colocinni Santon
          ---------Tiote ------Anita
          --------------Cabaye
          Ben Arfa -------------------Gouffran
          ---------------Cisse

Don't be surprised if Gutierrez plays ahead of Marveaux against Villa, there are also plenty other stipulations with others available and coming back which would mean he would only be involved from the bench. Basically this guy would be silly to put him in his team other the other nailed on options IMO

Just messing around with my WC and team looks like this. Pretty standard. Doing well this season so just need steady points above avg.

    Bego
    Rafa Davies Clyne
    Bale Michu Fella Theo
    Aguero RVP Fletch

Random 3.9 , Turner, Wilson, Taarabt

Would have Ba in place of Aguero for this weekend though, have had Ba from the beginning but I don't want to be worrying if he will start or not every game. Thoughts?

Newcastle could quite easily play a blinder this week. Cisse could and should have put a bag full in at the weekend, and barring a Federici wondershow he would have. THey have Frances backline besides Mexes I think, and they will all want to impress. It may click this week, it may take weeks, they may get relegated and have to sell them all right away, who knows?

Fletcher was as quick as I have ever seen him this weekend, and with AJ, McLean and larsson hitting form, (plus Sess who's due), I would (and will be myself) do Fletcher over Benteke all day.

If you go 3-4-3, then Benteke and Fletcher, or Berba and Fletch could be immense this week.

Suicide with their run of fixtures. Why on Earth would you do that now, unless your entire team from front to back needs fixing?

He's a season keeper regardless of his price....or whatever you may or may not be able to do with the money.

Far too early to be leaving him out, unless you are 400 points behind your ML leader.

Well they'll have had less than a normal weeks rest, from an emotionally draining day today (but a good day naturally), and then have to travel up to the N.E, probably in awfully cold crap conditions.

I just don't see Swans getting anything from Sunderland next week regardless of circumstances, and or form, and I certainly don't see a nil nil, so anything but a Sunderland win and ill be surprised.

Newrob. Don't you think that marveaux has done enough to get a run in the team? My feeling is that goufrann is very much a squad player. He would be a similar level to marveaux, but marveaux would have the advantage of being in the team. ie it would be his spot to lose. Surely Jonas won't be considered as the left forward? He doesn't have it these days. I think he will play left mid in a 4-4-2, but not much else.

If we buy a replacement for ba, I wouldn't consider marv. But at the moment I see that left forward spot is open for him to make it his own. I am strongly considering him as my 5th mid on a WC. Would still be a punt, but with much more potential upside than a guthrie

Any transfers jump out for this lot this week? All I can see is either:

      A) Lambert -> Benteke
      B) Szczesny -> De Gea (double ARS defence not working out great so far...)
      C) Save it

      Szczesny
      Baines, Gibbs, Davies
      Bale, Mata, Walcott, Fellaini
      RVP, Ba, Lambert

      Bunn, Marveaux, Demel, Harte
      Bank 0.2m, 1 freebie

well stick with the Pod for a few more weeks

Mata and Bale will get rested in the europa league i reckon, can't see walcott missing many games as long as arsenal dont sign any attacking players. I do see the appeal of Marveux short term, do you need the money from selling puncheon to fund another transfer? if you don't i would stick with him.

I'm really regretting not WCing in GW22 now. Not only did I suffer with only Ba as my attacking player for the Chelsea DGW but I also suffered by having Walcott as my only Arsenal attacker. Also bought Sagna instead of Giroud which resulted in Davies being on my bench, doh!. I've lost 60-70 points these last two weeks.

Goals Swansea have conceded to each opponent away, in chronological order.

              City 1
              Southampton 1
              Newcastle 1
              Arsenal 0
              Tottenham 1
              Reading 0
              Fulham 1
              Everton 0
Chelsea 0 (League Cup, both home and away)

How many do you think _Sunderland_ will score, max?

Virtually no one was talking about Fletcher before Sunderland dismantled an awful Wigan defence. Their previous game they beat West Ham, who just got destroyed 5-1 by Arsenal.

I think the Fletcher boat has already sailed. To be precise, in the last two weeks.

After playing the notoriously tight away Swansea defence, it's away to Reading who have tightened up at home, followed by Arsenal at home and West Brom away.

Yeah not easy. Is he getting more supply than he did at the start of the season where his strike rate was too high?

Just did the comparison between Fletcher GW1-21 and GW22-23 (WHM and wig, possibly his best two fixtures of the season).

Interesting confirmation. Goal attempts per game rises from a tiny 1.9 to a relatively much improved 3.0 over these fixtures. Crucially, all these goal attempts were in the box in the last two GWs. And his shot on target percentage and goal conversion percentages are even higher than earlier in the season! (66% v 47.3%, 33.3% v 22.2%).

                  All of that screams regression.

Good points actually, but if I remember Norwich's defence was pretty tight at home until Suarez scored a hat trick against them. Things change and Fletcher is in form, as is Sunderland and they just inflicted City's first away defeat on them as well remember.

I see where you're coming from, but I reckon Norwich did their real tightening up after the Liverpool 5-2 and Chelsea 4-1 defeats. Prior to that at home they'd conceded to struggling qpr followed by a cs at home to West Ham who are also generally very low scoring anyway, and of course they'd kicked off the season with a 5-0 loss away to Swansea (and were thrashed 4-1 away to Chelsea). Plus, Norwich seem to have some inexplicable problem with Suarez and Liverpool having conceded 5 three games in a row now, no matter where they play.

I don't doubt Sunderland might have improved a little relative to the darkest depths of midseason when they seemed unable to supply Fletcher at all. But the same personnel and system is there against pretty tough opponents.
