Southampton register their first win under Mauricio Pochettino, with Jason Puncheon bagging the opener and Rickie Lambert chipping in with a pair of assists at St Mary’s. Edin Dzeko’s sixth goal in his last six starts proves no more than consolation for the visitors – the result means United now have the chance to establish a 12 point lead over their neighbours, providing they see off Everton at Old Trafford:

On the Up

Rickie Lambert
Having scored against the champions in Gameweek 1, the Saints forward once again highlighted his fixture-proof appeal by bagging a pair of assists. Lambert has now scored or assisted in six of the last nine and has moved to 128 FPL points – third best scoring forward behind only Robin Van Persie and Luis Suarez.

Jason Puncheon
The winger fired home the opener to underline his popularity as a cut-price midfield option. Puncheon has now returned four goals and six assists this term and has racked up more points than any other midfielder in the 5.0 and under bracket.

Edin Dzeko
Selected alongside Sergio Aguero for the St Mary’s trip, the Bosnian continued a strong run of form which has now plundered six goals and two assists in his last six starts. Dzeko’s somewhat fortuitous strike means he has produced returns in all six of those first-team appearances – at 7.4 in FPL, his mid-price appeal goes from strength to strength.

Steven Davis
Handed the role in “the hole” due to Gaston Ramirez’s knock, Davis grabbed the second in an impressive display. While his 4.5 price appeals, it’s worth noting this was his first start under Mauricio Pochettino – Davis has climbed off the bench after the break in each of the previous three.

Going Down

Carlos Tevez
According to Roberto Mancini, the Argentine’s omission was down to “personal reasons” with other reports elaborating further and suggesting family matters were to blame. Nevertheless, with Dzeko maintaining his run of form, Tevez could well face a task to regain his starting berth – he has scored once from Gameweek 13 onwards by comparison.

Matija Nastasic
The return of Yaya Toure allowed Mancini to shift Javi Garcia into central defence, with the teenager omitted from the squad due to fatigue. A run of 11 starts in 12 between Gameweek 9 and 20 had suggested he was all but nailed-on but with just 55 minutes game time in the last three, Nastasic’s minutes are lessening as the season heats up. Given his side’s somewhat spineless showing, Vincent Kompany’s return can’t come soon enough for Mancini.

Agree. But the lad has great potential. He has the ability to take several players out of the game just by making a simple run. Great ball-winner as well. The complete package.

There is a link between Watford, Udinese and some Spanish team.
It basically works like Spain, Italy and England are the 1st, 2nd and 3rd tier teams.
If not good enough for one... you go on loan to a lesser team..

I'm a Watford fan, and I'm totally chuffed right now. The Pozzo's have brought some brilliant players over, and we now play exciting, fast paced football. Call it madness if you want, but in my opinion, this is an excellent way of doing business. Watford still play more homegrown players every game than most Premiership sides

      Mata's last 4 games

      Goal attempts: 1.25
      Penalty area touches: 5.0
Passes received in the final third: 27
      Minutes per chance: 29.5
      Chances created:3.75

      It's OK but not brilliant.

Just 1.25 goal attempts per game shows you just how well his strike rate is doing, but you would expect some regression.

^^ this. His on target percentage was around 40% for the season, but for the last few games it's been over 60%. You would definitely expect regression here.

Gerrard's stats also don't really support his recent FPL points output.

quality comment I found in goal.com, regarding to the city match:

What a cultured finish by Gareth Barry and he made it look so easy as well. Who knew he had that sort of talent hidden away? Amazing accuracy. Shame it was in his own goal though. Perhaps the OG before his name here means "Oh God".
As for Joe Hart, the second goal went between his hands. Perhaps it might have helped if he tried to use his "Head & Shoulders"

No way SAF will go for anything else but the strongest 11. It's a title match tomorow and he still remembers that 4:4.

This is wrong. What's the point of a squad if he can't utilise it with arguably the biggest game of the season in midweek.

I'd say tomorrows a pretty damn big game too. Win tomorrow, in what is a tough match, and surely the league would be nigh on wrapped up.

R.Martin wouldn't mind if RVP sat it out 🙂

He will certainly play some part though!

No it's not. Just giving a reason for why he might be rested. He could as stated below, start and come off early in the second half. Or come on from the bench if the game needs saving. Either way, i can't see him getting 90 tomorrow.

Both arguments are coherent, SAF may well have to prioritise the league over the CL and play RVP tomorrow.

I'dwager RVP will start and united will get into everton quickly in the first half with a view to bringing RVP off early in the second.

It would be sweet if RVP was rested entirely but it actually suits me more if Demel doesn't play this weekend. Any West Ham fans have any encouraging insight for me there?

It could be an odd situation

Suarez will go up tonight, but could very easily fall tomorrow, he is being sold at quite a rate

      Not with Benitez there.

Sturridge, Lambert, even Dzeko are more nailed on and just as good chance for points

I have 2 frees for next gw, which of these would you agree with:

    GJ > Azpil + Marveux > Sissoko
    GJ > R Martin + Marveux > Fellaini
GJ > Evra and + Marveux > Kebe

I have zabeleta, bale, walcott, mata, michu, rvp, suarez and giroud
