This season I’ve taken pride in my powers of recovery. The ability to bounce back from a Gameweek of misery with a plucky display seven days later. The upper lip has remained stiff on my face of adversity.

Right now, it’s quivering with my chin scraping the floorboards of my two-up, two-down grief pit.

Motivated by the need for differentials to help claw back a mini-league deficit, I chose to cuddle up to Dimitar Berbatov and Fernando Torres, despite knowing all too well that the allure of Robin Van Persie and Carlos Tevez was beautifully placed to return bigger profits.

Their Scout Pick selection spelled it out to me – bringing them in made perfect sense. But in the context of my mini-league, there was another perspective; spending points to match my rivals’ team took the shine off the obvious route to success.

By four o’clock the true horror of that decision was apparent. Once again I paid the price for being clever – for ignoring the big picture, for turning my back on the bleedin’ obvious.

This pain is not all self-inflicted this time – I can at least proportion some blame to good old-fashioned bad luck.

With Rafael Van der Vaart as captain, my returns could have been handsome. If only he’d converted his second spot-kick, or indeed had Mark Clattenburg handed Spurs a third. While Van der Vaart clogged his penalty re-take to punish my points tally, Tevez, sporting the armband from my rivals, gorged on a brace of spot-kicks to earn a hat-trick. Agony – absolute agony.

Adding further insult, and extinguishing any hopes of a second-half revival, Van der Vaart failed to appear for the second-half. A calf injury apparently. He couldn’t have been hurting as much as me. Van der Vaart might be fit for Gameweek 27 – I’m not sure I will be.

So there you have it – enjoy Match of the Day. There were lots of goals apparently.

As for me, I’ll give Arsene a call. Arsene and me. In the pub, in the corner. I’m drowning it all in the local brew; he’s got his large glass of red. Don’t you dare tell us to cheer up.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

rooney - reputation but glimpses too of the old rooney, plus he's clearly our best striker so rightly walks into squad
      defoe - reputation
agbonalhor - not sure, he has neither goals or a reputation
crouch - has doen well in the minutes he's got for spurs, especially in the champs league
bent - scoring as well as any englishman a got a goal v austria last time out

agger and kjaer will merk them all either way

Nailed on I would say, he is just insanely quick, solid defensively and gets forward loads.

Only negative is his final ball is pretty wild and inconsistent.

      A steal at 4.0 IMO.

well stoke can be good for a clean sheet and huth is a consistent goal threat, 7 goals so far this season so while he might not get another week so big he could still be a good pointscorer

I think so. His 2 goals was a blip, unlikely to happen again this season.

I chose Kelly instead and it could still work out with the amount of times he looks more like a right winger.

Precisely my thoughts. I've got Begovic as my Stoke player anyway so I don't want any more but it amazes me how much hype there can be over a player who has just scored a heap. Seven goals is an astonishing total for a defender. Is he really going to get much more?

Same here. It's probably worth getting as many points as you can for 27 and then having a buffer if things don't go so great with 28 and then having two free transfers the week after.

                  Brilliant.

I'm sticking with Fabregas, but money isn't a problem whatsoever for me at the moment, I may even have about 5 million in the bank for the double if I get rid.

Fabregas' stats are good and he's making more key passes than pretty much everyone in the league. He'll start getting decent scores soon.

RVP may be rested in one of the dgw games, so I may chance Walcott (c); but a repition of this gw is asking a lot.

    Hi all

Assuming that drop Rooney for RVP is a no-brainer for next GW, that leaves me with 7,9million for a midfielder replacing Nzgobia (for my team his run ends here). So, what's the best solution for a midfielder up to 7,9?

Couldn't be from arsenal (walcott, yeah) because i already (with RVP) have 3 gunners.

    Tks.

    Cheers.

I keep saying that Huth can't keep up the goal-scoring and he proves me wrong. United didn't play that well today (a lot of that was down to Wolves) and I must admit I started to question Vidic's value, especially as United's next games are tricky.

Huth for this week seems like a waste of time with two away games - surely he can't repeat trhe feat?

        shit nice score JMT,
Im trying not to feel as though im chasing last week points,
but he has scored 7 so far, taht sort of thing gets notice by thhe bonus muppets for future, nice fixtures coming up but it hard to puu the trigure with Utd coming up for a double, even if one of those is
chelsea away....fck it, think i have just persuaded myself

This is the team i was planning after the wild card.
    szczeny/begovic

    rafael/carr/coleman/kolorov/r. johnson

    vdv/adam/nani/fab/cahill

    rvp/berbatov/odemwingle.

Which players are most probably gonna have a price tonight? i can fit rvp in only for tevez. Should i transfer him out?

About 10 people struggling to cover the safety score of 40 this week & quite a few on the borderline. A decent score for Malouda & co could knock a few more out.

Was the Kolmeister left wing today?

Any chance this could carry on and we could have an OOP player with a hell of a left foot = assists and FKs.

      That's the 2nd time you've said this 🙂

You couldn't have possibly expected 4-0 down to be 4-4. I can't believe anybody who says otherwise.

i didnt see much of the newcastle game. To any that did, would you worry for Szczesny's spot, was he to blame for any of that madness? Im worried someone has to be a figurehead for blame and he would be an easy scapegoat, thereby screwing my team.

An assessment from one website : "You have to have nothing but sympathy for the Arsenal goalkeeper. After looking so comfortable and bringing an air of calmness to Arsenal's defence, the 'keeper was helpless to prevent Newcastle's miraculous comeback as the players in front of him fell apart"

IMO, Szschhcszezny played well. Out of 4 goals two were penalties, a shot from a four meter distance and an absolute smasher by Tiote. I wouldn't blame him for any of this goals to be honest. Besides, he made several very nice saves.
