After possibly the most staggering day of Premier League football ever witnessed, today has a lot to live up to. But, being billed as the headline act of the weekend, this afternoon’s match-up at Stamford Bridge certainly has the potential to do so. And rest assured, the Dugout Discussion is here to take you through another roller-coaster day of fantasy football.

This first half of the day’s Premier League action is Birmingham City’s trip to Upton Park, and the team news is in…

Contrasting fortunes see West Ham without Matthew Upson and Jonathan Spector after they were unable to shake off knocks, whereas Roger Johnson, Barry Ferguson and Cameron Jerome all passed late fitness tests to make the starting line-up for Birmingham.

West Ham XI: Green, Jacobsen, Reid, Tomkins, Bridge, O’Neil, Parker, Noble, Obinna, Keane, Piquionne

Birmingham XI: Foster, Carr, Johnson, Jiranek, Ridgewell, Bentley, Bowyer, Ferguson, Gardner, Jerome, Zigic

Then, at 4pm, a game that had little interest or significance just over a week ago. But with Liverpool’s best player switching sides in a British transfer record, anticipation of this game has been immense. Fernando Torres looks set to make his Chelsea debut and fill the back pages whatever happens today.

Akers Richard or Akers, as he is known, has been regularly haunting this site since July 2008. He is young and foolish, take what he says with a pinch of salt. Follow them on Twitter

        Out.

Got 71 (68 after Kolarov's 2nd assist goes), which is ok, but not that good really.

I'd have been up the creek if I didn't play the wildcard and bring Arshavin and Tevez in though (unless Liverpool get a cleanie), so got to be happy with that. Even if VDV (C) was incredibly unlucky.

FUDGE! Is Kolarov going to have an assist taken off him? I'm only through by 2 points so would be out on my arse. 🙁

VDV (c) was a right heartbreaker for people, especially as Kamara said initially the second penny was a goal, ouch!

Nah, I've read the news reports in the Swiss media, and they're all just speculating on the "probable" reasons why Djourou has pulled out of the midweek internationals: "Mais à la 48e, il devait sortir du terrain, probablement victime du lésion du cartilage à un genou."

I don't think Swiss reporters have any more information than British sources at the moment.

I still dont understand why ye are so angry. Liverpool isnt even his boyhood club.

It would be different if Gerrard left in similar circumstances. Torres just left cos it was better for his career.

Just like it was when he made the Madrid to Liverpool move.

They can't exactly be pleased though that arguably their best player has joined a divisional rival. I'm not pleased Carroll has joined them. Although I did read an article last night suggesting he could be out for the season, in which case keeping him wouldn't have done us any good anyway.

Well i suppose the last minute request is more so chelsea and them leaving it late. And when the bid was made he let it be known he wanted to go. I dont that being his fault more poor administration on Chelsea's part.

He even went to talk to new owners and tell em he believed in what they were doing and direction they were going but he felt it would take a few years - which is fair and that he would past his prime - which is fair and he wanted to win something in his career
Torres remember has won nothing in his club career and will be 28 next year. And unless the 5 (at least) clubs ahead of them fall apart next year that wont be changning in the next year.
So i think its fair all around when you consider the circumstances, the goals he gave ye and the money ye got back.

Also i read during the week that the comments were not translated correctly. They made them out to be more crictical than they were.

Spainish journos were saying he merely said Chelsea was a better platform for him to win trophies.
Which everyone would agree with currently at this time.

I think the attack on Torres is being used as a vent for the fact there are currently more successful clubs who can offer torres a better career currently when in previous times Liverpool would have easily been a better career path than Chelsea.

Lads it's done with lets move on. We got rid of a player who didn't want ot be there and was annoying his team mates with his attitude. Got in two younger player, one who came because he has the believe nando didn;t and the other who arguably is Englands best future prospect along with Wilshere, with a net spend of £1.8 mil and whose wages are around £2.5mil cheaper than his babels

              Damo
"annoying his team mates with his attitude" utter nonsense man, maybe the supporters but never his team mates
Many who rang him to congratulate and wish him well on the move including gerrard.
              Why make up something?

"who came because he has the beleive nando didnt"

What believe? Suarez moving to the liverpool at his age is a upward move for him, the lad as years ahead of which he can spend helping to build liverpool to on a higher footing when in his prime

Torres is nearly 28 and wanted to spend his prime fighting for trophies rather than rebuilding. If Torres was still 22 23 then maybe he would have stayed.

And the believe Nando didnt have?

Are you saying so Nando was wrong in believing Liverpool wont win the league or CL in next 3 years.

Theres no need to paint the picture so incorrectly cos a player in his prime wanted to move on.

Db I remember at least 3 or 4 games where I seen Gerrard look absolutely p!ssed with em moping around the pitch.

What I meant with the belief was Torres had lost it. I never once mentioned anything about his reasoning for leaving I totally accept em. Suarez has said he believes the team is going to grow and improve rapidly where as Torres didn't.

My main point is that all n all it's a positive situation for the pool

A lot of people, myself included have offload (or are offloading) Berbatov due to stiffening fixtures and the apart boost in form for Rooney. If I were you, I'd do Berbs -> Tevez and try and get the money from VDV (if injured), Walcott or Young.

Don't want to get rid of VDV even if injured, could handle benching him for until GW 29. Keen to take full advantage of Man Utd's DGW and to get in on the GGW for Bir or Eve the following week and have Tevez I'll need to take a hit. Might be worth it if I captain Tevez true enough... like a I should have done this week.

I'm glad Di Matteo has gone because it was clear we was heading to the Championship, but I'm afraid that we'll do the same as Burnley and get an unproven Championship manager like O'Driscoll or Rodgers. That would be disastrous, we need experience, Martin Jol or Sam Allardyce. Although Allardyce is very unlikely imo.

I think sacking him was a very poor decision.

Your squad is borderline good enough to stay in the division. Which as of now if it finished today ye would

Ye overachieved in the first part of the season.

I can understand why you would say that but you haven't been to every game to see the awful decisions he's been making regarding team selections and substitutions.

He had many favourites, we were on freefall and have been the worst team in the league since December. Also now have the record of most games without a clean sheet in PL history.

It had to be done, we stuck with Robson & Mowbray and went down, it is vital we stay up this year, it doesn't matter how we do it!

Being to the games is irrelevant. Every game or the highlights of which are on the tele.

Its easy to forgot Di Matteo brought ye up from the championship. Ye have always been a yo yo club and as of now would still be in the division and have a nice run of games coming up. Its stupid to blame him for many things that are out of control - injuries, suspension and a thin squad.

Sure he may have made a few errors picking players but the above contributing more to the slump than playing Mulumbu or whoever ahead of Tchoyi or whoever. Its not that much of a difference.

And yes i know the both play different positions. Its poor form on Di matteo to sack him , id reckon ye would have stayed up as there are worse teams and even if ye went down it would the same as what ye have done for years.

I can easily see Di Matteo go on to be successful elsewhere and West Brom could easily remain a yo yo clubs also.

    Quick poll gents...

If Djourou is confirmed out then i'm gonna have to bench him but who for?

    1) Kolarov away to Man Utd
    2) Coleman away to Bolton

If West Ham had better fixtures, i'd have a punt on Gary O'Neill, he has slotted really well into the side.

Guys a few opinions on my wildcard team :

    jaaskelinen > Kingson/Harper
    Bardsley > Kelly
    Pedersen > Barton
    A Young > Brunt
    Rooney > RVP

would give me a GW27 team of : Foster, Djourou, Kelly, Huth, Nani, Barton, Adam, Brunt, Cahill, RVP, Campbell (Kingson, Pantsil, Coleman & Tevez) Gives me 7.3 in the bank and 8 DGW Players, djourou would need to be changed if is knee is worse than just a knock too.

that would then leave me with no keeper i'm afraid for GW28, no birmingham, arsenal due to the carling cup final, foster is my no1 so just need a keeper for GW28 and blackpool away to wolves looks positive

thats a possibility, just wary of fielding both him and huth for GW28, it always backfires for me when i double up, but may be worth it against a weak west brom.... thanks

Definitely Harper of those two keepers, but Chesney better. Brunt isn't bringing in more than 2 points per game at the moment. The other three transfers look good to me.

bugger..i just realised kingson was dropped for yesterdays game, that'll be because of the howlers he pulled in midweek...

Harper or Begovic ? Clean sheet more of a chance with stoke than newcastle at the mo

        slight tweak...

        jaaskelinen > Begovic/Harper
        Bardsley > Kelly
        Pedersen > Barton
        A Young > Jarvis / Holden / Ferguson / Richardson
        Varney > RVP

Squad of : Foster, Djourou, Kelly, Huth, Nani, Barton, Adam, Cahill, RVP, Rooney, Tevez (Begovic, Pantsil, Coleman, ???)

Djourou's injury poses something of a problem for Wenger.

Few real options open to him, without the wholesale repositioning players. Injury & suspension (Djourou, Squillaci, Vermaelen, Diaby, Diaby, Nasri) & now Song have, bitten hard into the squad. Many of the reserve players are on loan too.

I suppose the easiest defensive option is simply to move Sagna into central defence & play Eboue right back.

My god that league's like a graveyard of failed / never even had a chance to fail British tennis players 😀 I played against Martin Lee in the mid-90s when he came down to Sussex for some exhibition.
