With the Fantasy Football Scout Private Pool still open to entry and with TotelFootball giving away a free £10 for all new registrations, there’s still plenty of opportunity to get involved before tonight’s big Old Trafford clash. Trying our best not to get too distracted by the United vs Madrid tussle, we take a look at the TotelFootball player list to give you our view on the runners and riders for second legs of the last sixteen.

As per the rules of the competition, our team must be lined up in a 4-4-2 formation, with a further four warming the bench in a 15 man squad. You can pick up to two players per team, though if you exceed this allocation, you will be deducted five points per player over that quota.

With only eight teams to choose from, striking a balance is tricky. If you choose to go without points hits, you’ll need two players from seven teams and one player from the remaining club. The deadline is 7.45pm, though, meaning we can tinker with our picks for tonight’s two games after the official squad lists are rolled out – a real advantage for those favouring the hands-on approach.

Last 16: Week 3 Selections

Having assessed the lay of the land after the first leg encounters were played out three weeks ago, we’re leaning towards three of the four home sides. PSG, Juventus and Dortmund all supply our starting XI with a couple of players apiece as they look to clinch a place in the final eight.

Real Madrid arrive at Old Trafford on the back of two successive wins over Barcelona – confidence is high right now and we fancy Jose Mourinho’s men to prevail tonight. The script almost seems written for Cristiano Ronaldo’s return to spoil Sir Alex Ferguson’s evening, while Angel Di Maria’s creativity could also prove the hosts’ undoing. As mentioned above, with only two players per team allowed without points hits, our options are somewhat limited across the four games and we’ve opted for David De Gea ‘s save point potential between the sticks.

Our faith in Dortmund is also justified by the inclusion of a couple of their main protagonists as Jurgen Klopp’s side look to book a place in the last eight. The Bundesliga side play host to Shakhtar after a 2-2 draw last time round and, having won all three of their group games at home, are the favourites to progress here. We expect goals from both sides, though, and have opted for Marco Reus and Robert Lewandowski for the hosts, with Henrik Mkhitaryan selected for his role in “the hole” for the visitors.

Somewhat unsurprisingly, we’ve doubling up on Juventus for their home clash with Celtic. The Serie A outfit are 3-0 up from the first leg and will be keen to avoid any pitfalls – with no need to go on the offensive, we reckon they’ll keep it tight and a home clean sheet looks a likely outcome. Giorgio Chiellini and Stephan Lichtsteiner, who is classified as a defender but is likely to be fielded on the right of the midfield five, get the nod for tomorrow night’s match in Turin.

Although Zlatan Ibrahimovic is sidelined through suspension, PSG still have plenty of big-money buys more than capable of turning Valencia over in their home game tomorrow. Carlo Ancelotti’s side are 2-1 up from the first leg and will be looking to Javier Pastore to produce, while Alex’s propensity for goals from the back also earns the former Chelsea man the nod. With a spare place in our XI up for grabs, Valencia’s right-back Joao Pereira is selected for his attacking sensibilities.

I think it says a lot about the decision, when everyone in the stadium was surprised to see a red.

Fergie, the players, the commentators were all shocked.

Did YOU seriously think it was a red before the ref got the card out?

No. I was shocked. think it's been rationalized in hindsight a bit. Nani went into a 50/50 aerial challenge that occurs up and down the land several times every week and came out with a red card.

I think it is a red card given based on outcome (hindsight) instead of considering whether Nani's challenge was truly unacceptable.

Considering 2 players in the Everton West Ham game got sent off for the same thing, yes, I was kind of expecting it. Especially as the ref was standing over Nani for such a long time.

Some refs would have given a yellow but its a bit like penalties. Sometimes they get given and sometimes they don't. Tonight was one of those nights for Utd when then decision went against them.

      That's football, I'm afraid.

Let me just say - I detest Man Utd and am over the moon they have lost under "iffy" circumstances as its about time it was their turn.

Now the red card whilst i enjoyed it tremendously - it was NEVER worthy of a red card. However this is probably karma as United have benefited over the years!!

'The challenge puts in danger the physical integrity of the opposing player. Intent doesn't matter here, Nani has the responsibility to be aware of the surrounding players and be careful with his cleats.

    Document from FIFA: http://www.fifa.com/mm/document/afdeveloping/refereeing/7.%20law%2012_miscounduct_557.pdf

“Using excessive force” means that the player has far exceeded the necessary use of force and is in danger of injuring his opponent.
Did Nani commit a foul that put in danger the opponent's physical integrity? Yes. Red card, easy call.'

Just like we've all seen players hacked down in the box and get nothing and then another player dive with no one near him and get a penalty awarded.

        It happens.

I have no axe to grind against Utd but that's life I'm afraid. some refs would have given a yellow. Some would have given a red. This one gave a red, just like one of the Prem refs gave a red to Carlton Cole for a similar challenge earlier this season.

If you see a Prem ref give a red for a challenge like that then you can't really complain if a UEFA ref gives the same colour card for what was a similar challenge, can you.

        That's all I'm saying.

“Using excessive force” means that the player has far exceeded the necessary use of force and is in danger of injuring his opponent.

Did Nani commit a foul that put in danger the opponent’s physical integrity? Yes. Red card, easy call.’

These 2 sentences do not correlate. The question is 'Did Nani far exceed the necessary use of force AND (not or) put in danger the opponent's physical integrity'

Roy Keane is a balloon. He has a bee in his bonnet when it comes to United and Fergie. "Does Nani think he has 20 yards to himself to be able to bring the ball down like that". Embarrassing chat from him. The sending off allowed Jose to flood the game with attacking players and record a hollow victory. Keane looked pleased about the result. Agenda driven spraff on air from an angry man.

The thing is, the ref didn't NEED to send Nani off. A booking and a telling off would have been enough. You see refs "manage" huge games like that. It's definitely one of those "You've seen them given" decisions, but it completely ruined the game, and now we're all talking about a referee instead of the fact that Hugo Chavez has died.

It was a red or can be a red just by how dangerous it is, if it was even higher Arbeloa would probly be in a coma or dead.

it wasn't intentional but it doesnt mean it can't be a red.

to be honest the ref could have givin him a yellow or a red and he wouldn't have got the decision wrong.

i think he's right either way it's just one of those grey areas i suppose.

Man utd will fill hard done by but they were still winning 1-0, fergie showed his lack of tactical nous to get the result after the refs decision and it isn't the first time, he seriously is lacking in that area and thats why they havent been sucessful in europe.

anyway how biased were the commentaters did you hear one scream yes !! after a header thats imbarrassing lol...

personally, i do not remember a worse refereing performance at this level. Not just a laughable red card, but terrible handling of the game, unnessecary yellows for carrick and pepe, and a clear penalty. He could not control the players on the pitch, sign of a ref that cannot handle his job at the pressure end of football.

      Seriously???

How do you rate the ref when he sent off RVP for not hearing an offside whistle in 3 seconds?

The Chelsea job is too much to put into words, and both were much, much worse than this
