With the Fantasy Football Scout Private Pool still open to entry and with TotelFootball giving away a free £10 for all new registrations, there’s still plenty of opportunity to get involved before tonight’s big Old Trafford clash. Trying our best not to get too distracted by the United vs Madrid tussle, we take a look at the TotelFootball player list to give you our view on the runners and riders for second legs of the last sixteen.

As per the rules of the competition, our team must be lined up in a 4-4-2 formation, with a further four warming the bench in a 15 man squad. You can pick up to two players per team, though if you exceed this allocation, you will be deducted five points per player over that quota.

With only eight teams to choose from, striking a balance is tricky. If you choose to go without points hits, you’ll need two players from seven teams and one player from the remaining club. The deadline is 7.45pm, though, meaning we can tinker with our picks for tonight’s two games after the official squad lists are rolled out – a real advantage for those favouring the hands-on approach.

Last 16: Week 3 Selections

Having assessed the lay of the land after the first leg encounters were played out three weeks ago, we’re leaning towards three of the four home sides. PSG, Juventus and Dortmund all supply our starting XI with a couple of players apiece as they look to clinch a place in the final eight.

Real Madrid arrive at Old Trafford on the back of two successive wins over Barcelona – confidence is high right now and we fancy Jose Mourinho’s men to prevail tonight. The script almost seems written for Cristiano Ronaldo’s return to spoil Sir Alex Ferguson’s evening, while Angel Di Maria’s creativity could also prove the hosts’ undoing. As mentioned above, with only two players per team allowed without points hits, our options are somewhat limited across the four games and we’ve opted for David De Gea ‘s save point potential between the sticks.

Our faith in Dortmund is also justified by the inclusion of a couple of their main protagonists as Jurgen Klopp’s side look to book a place in the last eight. The Bundesliga side play host to Shakhtar after a 2-2 draw last time round and, having won all three of their group games at home, are the favourites to progress here. We expect goals from both sides, though, and have opted for Marco Reus and Robert Lewandowski for the hosts, with Henrik Mkhitaryan selected for his role in “the hole” for the visitors.

Somewhat unsurprisingly, we’ve doubling up on Juventus for their home clash with Celtic. The Serie A outfit are 3-0 up from the first leg and will be keen to avoid any pitfalls – with no need to go on the offensive, we reckon they’ll keep it tight and a home clean sheet looks a likely outcome. Giorgio Chiellini and Stephan Lichtsteiner, who is classified as a defender but is likely to be fielded on the right of the midfield five, get the nod for tomorrow night’s match in Turin.

Although Zlatan Ibrahimovic is sidelined through suspension, PSG still have plenty of big-money buys more than capable of turning Valencia over in their home game tomorrow. Carlo Ancelotti’s side are 2-1 up from the first leg and will be looking to Javier Pastore to produce, while Alex’s propensity for goals from the back also earns the former Chelsea man the nod. With a spare place in our XI up for grabs, Valencia’s right-back Joao Pereira is selected for his attacking sensibilities.

I was all set on doing Cisse -> Rooney in gwk 30. Does tonight's team selection have any bearing on Rooney's game time in the premier league or was it a one off tactical thing do we think?

Not sure, plenty of options at Fergie's disposal and United are only in two competitions now with the league pretty much won. Fancy Welbeck and Chicharito to get more game-time which they need, alongside RVP who is gunning for the Golden Boot.

Yadda yadda. If the ref says it's a red it's a red. That's what the history books will show.

Maybe the ref has seen Nani play before and knows that he probably deserves a red every time he plays...

If you are going to end up in an online debate about North Korean internet rights, make sure that your opponent will eventually give up, before finding a picture of someone, somewhere in North Korea, using the internet.

This will save a lot of pointless time about something that you know fine well neither of you even care that much about.

Arguably the worst thing tonight is that Nani was playing a blinder before he was sent off, and in all likelihood that decision has probably cost him his United career. Im the first to admit that Nani us bloody useless most of the time, but the guy is incredibly talented and shouldnt be leaving on a free

Nani was heading out the door before the game, contract is up at the end of the season and Fergie has repeatedly ignored Nani's wishes for a new one (he wants a bigger contract when he is over-earning on the one he is currently on). This champions league campaign I feel was his last chance to really prove that he is worth keeping at Old Trafford. Now that is over, I feel his opportunities will be limited once more and he will be gone come the summer, with Zaha taking his spot.

For 170 minutes of 180 we were better than Real fecking Madrid, sadly it was the other 10 minutes and one shITter of a decision that cost us.

We have shown tonight that we can compete with the best Europe has to offer, and that, if we get a ref who knows what he's doing, we can win the thing.

as I said, this is worse than Munich 2 years ago. Then a red card turned the game against us, but it was deserved red card. Nani made contact with Arbeloa's arm whilst watching the ball, Arbeloa went down holding his ribs.

Didn't notice the arm-rib switch on the first viewing (was too busy sitting in shock) but yeah I see it here.

Suck it up, mate. It's United's turn to get shafted. God knows it's happened to enough of their opponents down the years.

          Haha I have no chance!

Thanks all the same, I can live in hope!

Rooney is so much handier to accommodate though..

2 of the 4, but +1 on the rest, though I'm still leaning towards Rooney atm. If i keep Suarez I'll get Rooney, if I keep Sturridge I'll get RvP

I needed there to be over 1.5 goals in that game to win a decent accumulator! Gutted..

    Harte Martin Davies

    Coutinho Michu Bale

    Lambert Suarez Remy

Whats the wise move? Suck it up and stick with that ride thewave of the gameweek and get bk at it next week?

Still mulling over whether or not to use my transfer this gw.

Is fielding 11 worth more than having the 4 not playing back for the upcoming fixtures and DGWs with an extra transfer in hand to be able to capitalise on those fixtures?

although i have to question why you played your WC last week, rather than saving it to capitalise on the future DGWs.

Had various issues and figured the DGWs may be just that, a series of opportunities rather than one big one.

Yeah. I'm coming round to it. Helps that I wildcarded last gw, so have most of the leading candidates for gw29 already.

Not sold on Sessegnon, and not feeling compelled by any defenders on offer. Got Enrique, Wilson & Harte already.

RE. the accusation above, of someone being 'nostradamus in disguise', there are two concerns i must address. one) why would nostradamus need a disguise? is there a 16th century french witchfinder-general in our midst who might recognize him and bring him to some sort of neo-medieval order( how does this guy still hold political weight ) and 2) if so, then the witchfinder-general may be the person whose name oughta be whispered in hushed reverence, having lived for 500 years and retained the reins of influence thru half a millenium. nostradumus is just a cheap time traveller in a fake moustache. what a great point i make. thanks folk
