With the Fantasy Football Scout Private Pool still open to entry and with TotelFootball giving away a free Ā£10 for all new registrations, there’s still plenty of opportunity to get involved before tonight’s big Old Trafford clash. Trying our best not to get too distracted by the United vs Madrid tussle, we take a look at the TotelFootball player list to give you our view on the runners and riders for second legs of the last sixteen.

As per the rules of the competition, our team must be lined up in a 4-4-2 formation, with a further four warming the bench in a 15 man squad. You can pick up to two players per team, though if you exceed this allocation, you will be deducted five points per player over that quota.

With only eight teams to choose from, striking a balance is tricky. If you choose to go without points hits, you’ll need two players from seven teams and one player from the remaining club. The deadline is 7.45pm, though, meaning we can tinker with our picks for tonight’s two games after the official squad lists are rolled out – a real advantage for those favouring the hands-on approach.

Last 16: Week 3 Selections

Having assessed the lay of the land after the first leg encounters were played out three weeks ago, we’re leaning towards three of the four home sides. PSG, Juventus and Dortmund all supply our starting XI with a couple of players apiece as they look to clinch a place in the final eight.

Real Madrid arrive at Old Trafford on the back of two successive wins over Barcelona – confidence is high right now and we fancy Jose Mourinho’s men to prevail tonight. The script almost seems written for Cristiano Ronaldo’s return to spoil Sir Alex Ferguson’s evening, while Angel Di Maria’s creativity could also prove the hosts’ undoing. As mentioned above, with only two players per team allowed without points hits, our options are somewhat limited across the four games and we’ve opted for David De Gea ā€˜s save point potential between the sticks.

Our faith in Dortmund is also justified by the inclusion of a couple of their main protagonists as Jurgen Klopp’s side look to book a place in the last eight. The Bundesliga side play host to Shakhtar after a 2-2 draw last time round and, having won all three of their group games at home, are the favourites to progress here. We expect goals from both sides, though, and have opted for Marco Reus and Robert Lewandowski for the hosts, with Henrik Mkhitaryan selected for his role in ā€œthe holeā€ for the visitors.

Somewhat unsurprisingly, we’ve doubling up on Juventus for their home clash with Celtic. The Serie A outfit are 3-0 up from the first leg and will be keen to avoid any pitfalls – with no need to go on the offensive, we reckon they’ll keep it tight and a home clean sheet looks a likely outcome. Giorgio Chiellini and Stephan Lichtsteiner, who is classified as a defender but is likely to be fielded on the right of the midfield five, get the nod for tomorrow night’s match in Turin.

Although Zlatan Ibrahimovic is sidelined through suspension, PSG still have plenty of big-money buys more than capable of turning Valencia over in their home game tomorrow. Carlo Ancelotti’s side are 2-1 up from the first leg and will be looking to Javier Pastore to produce, while Alex’s propensity for goals from the back also earns the former Chelsea man the nod. With a spare place in our XI up for grabs, Valencia’s right-back Joao Pereira is selected for his attacking sensibilities.

Watching the match on Fox Soccer Deportes here in the US because FSC is showing a CONCACAF CL match instead -- must say I'm loving how the announcers pronounce Wellbeck, sounds like Wlbk.

Assuming I am in for a helluva 2nd half?

Ether is for a hit, otherwise I sit on 10 players this week.

Yep, I have no real value tied up in Mata although I will bring him back on wc, class tells. Samba I fancy for the QPR run of fixtures, but less chance of a hit paying off.

Yeah I wouldn't take a hit for Samba. I'd rather just go with 10 players rather than doing that.

The gerrard move could be good though. I may be doing the same.

Gerrard was the original plan until I saw Coutinho at the weekend, very exciting player. So now the question is do I double up on Pool midfield or not, before the price rise today.

    Sorry for the repost!

    Got 1FT

Current Strikeforce : RVP – Sturridge – Lambert

This week – RVP > Suarez

    Next week – Michu > Pienaar/Sissoko & Sturridge > RVP

(0.1 short now but RVP should drop)

    What do you think??

I don't like taking him out for one week and taking him back for a hit.

If Sturridge is confirmed out, get Benteke in for him. If not, get Sissoko for Fellaini.

Can we have a little DZ discussion on the merits of brining RVP back in?

Is he guaranteed starts for the rest of the season? Will he outscore Suarez? Will United's season now deflate a little, seeing them just cruise to the title doing the bare minimum?

He seems to want to play and get the golden boot (source: DZ)

Suarez and Rooney I think could easily keep up with him. I had him since he signed until last week, now I might stick with Rooney and put the cash elsewhere.

Good timing, see below. His recent games have been a bit 'off' a few sub appearances, a little injury, some rotation, etc. With UCL out of the way, I'd expect him to play the majority of minutes in the EPL and try to go for the Golden Boot. But there is no denying that he is 'short of form.'

I know that he will score points between now and May, but I'm genuinely torn on if he is worth it.

My plan to get him in would be to go:

Michu and Fletcher > Maloney and RVP. I'll consider this after the weekend.

I have no idea how guaranteed Van Persie's starts on, but I'd assume he'll play until the title is wrapped up mathematically, and even beyond. I'm not sure he'll outscore Suarez, who is pretty much a lock the rest of the season for me unless he picks up a couple of yellow cards. Liverpool's fixtures the rest of the way are so good. They only play Spurs, Chelsea, and Everton of teams in the top 9, and all of those matches are at home. I think the flat track bullies will continue to run up big scores.

Having said that, there's a reason Van Persie has been the best fantasy player in the game for the last two years. He scores when he wants, and I'm getting him back in for week 30.

If RVP scores when he wants, he has to be the least ambitious striker in football. 1 goal in 8 matches. Even Torres can match that.

Oh come on, you can't put that much emphasis on the last 8 games. Look at his record for this whole season, and all last season, and the end of the season before that. The man is fantasy gold.

I would agree that Bale and Suarez are as good, if not better options. I don't think anyone else will outscore him; Rooney/Aguero both have their warts, so I see no reason to not have all 3.

surely but then when you look at the fixtures i'd rule Lambert out against those other 2, Cissé also as assured starts when Lukaku might get some bench time, both are capable of great things but i just think Cissé will get more chances of returning something not just because of gametime but also because Newcastle are more creative and the better team.

Currently only have 6 likely starters (and Marveaux) for this week - also have a wildcard, 2 freebies and 0.0m in the bank - what would you do?

    A) Wildcard, get 11 starters and build up slowly for the doubles when they get announced
    B) Use 2 freebies (8/9 possible starters this week)
    C) Take a 4 pointer (9/10 possible starters)
    D) Take an 8 pointer (10/11 possibile starters)

Im currently on B, assuming the manchester clubs both have blanks. Something like Fellaini & Aguero -> Sissoko & Suarez.

    Bunn
    Turner, Harte, Davies
    Bale, Marveaux
    Sturridge

Szczesny, JEvans, Demel, Walcott, Mata, Fellaini, RVP, Aguero

I wouldn't WC this week. There aren't really any tasty fixtures to look forward to!

I'd probably use 2 or 3 transfers to get Siss and Suarez in for sure, and then another attacker like Benteke or Coutinho if you can.

Of the remaining 6 on my bench, i'm not a huge fan of taking a hit for a gk or defender, so that leaves Walcott, Mata or RVP. All 3 have decent fixtures after the blank, and i have a fair amount of value tied up in RVP and Walcott. I just cant see any players worth getting rid of one of these for, especially for a hit! If Studge is confirmed out this week, i may do him -> Benteke though...

Thinking two freebies too, go safe, Sissoko and Suarez are as close to guaranteed starters as you'll get in this game. With the FA cup-triggered DGWs and blanks on the horizon you definitely want to keep your wildcard for the darkest moment.

So, the plan for GW30 could be this.

Michu > Maloney and Fletcher > RVP

That gives me two players who would have a DGW coming up, and I'll be happy to play 2 out of Remy, Sissoko and Maloney every week, to go with Mata, Bale, Walcott, Suarez and RVP.

    I've had worse plans.

Anything that funds Fletcher to RVP with an even moderately competent player makes sense. Others in his price range as well, unlike the moves that included Pog, Marv, Anichebe -- people get themselves into a price corner that way.

I'm put off by Benteke because Villa are barely having shots, let alone scoring.

I guess it's just that Remy seems like more of a gamble. Villa have at least been scoring more freely than QPR...well Benteke has...

They're both punts but Remy has only played 3 games so it's harder to judge whether he'll be consistent. If you fancy it then go for it. It's a gut feeling call. That's the same reason I went for Benteke in my WC...gut feeling.

I remember distinctly coming back from school that day, think I was in Year 10 at the time, and googling "hard to explain" out of boredom. That is genuinely how I found the song.

who is your other favourite band? I agree, I think it's their best song, mainly for sentimental reasons, It was the first song I ever heard by them and I remember thinking it was the greatest thing I'd heard in a long time...

Yep, it made a very deep impression on me and I ended up listening to so many bands that were inspired by them - mostly getting disappointed.

Other one is, inevitably, The Beatles.

Pink Floyd are a very close second and would be top if not for their post-Wall output...

Learning to fly (is that what it's called?) is a good track post-Wall.

It's weird that I used to not like the Wall as much as other Floyd albums...it's probably now my favourite of the lot 😯

So I'm moving Fellaini and Maloney for Sissoko and Snodgrass -4. Gives me 10 outfield players and enough in the bank to move Sturridge to RVP in week 30. Setting aside your prejudice against players from Norwich, whaddya think? Will give me this, with my wildcard in reserve:

    Szcz (Rudd)

    Enrique-Davies-Clyne-Pearce (Demel)

    Bale-Snodgrass-Sissoko

    Suarez-Sturridge-Lukaku(c)

Is it too much to have both Sissoko and Cisse? Their coming fixtures look good and they also look dangerous in attacking. Alternative is to double Toons with Cabaye. Please help.

    A: Sess + Cisse + Sissoko
    B: Cabaye + Benteke + Sissoko

Not gonna lie, you've dug him up again. It all started when QPR shocked Southampton away at the weekend. I had Lambert captain. Great psychological trauma was inflicted that day and I tried to forget everything about that match. Unfortunately Remy made an indelible impression, especially as QPR only seem to score when he plays...

Yep, the 5.7 is a plus too! People said he was a bargain at 6.0, so why he isn't a steal at 5.7 after 2 in 3, I don't know.

I was going to get someone in who had better stats, but then I figured out that Remy had 2 in 3, one game of which was against Man City, and I really feel that it's definitely now or never for QPR. They know they have to win games, and Remy has shown a little bit of quality for them. Great fixtures for the next 6, and even beyond too.

Just checked his shots and yes the only thing is that he's been converting at a very high rate. Not many shots. It comes down to whether QPR convert their good fixtures into lots of shots.

    Help.

    Current team is:

    Bego Bunn
    Zaba JE Davies Cuellar Pearce
    Mata Walcott Bale Fellaini Puncheon
    Suarez Sturridge Cisse

    1 FT, 4.7m itb.

if i do get RVP next week for that Studge's spot, where should i find the other 1.8m?

    A) Fellaini > 5.9 (thinking Maloney -DGW, but i'll miss Afro's potential DGW)
    B) Mata > 7.6 (thinking Siss (wig) / Sess (NOR))
    C) Papiss > 7.0 (thinking Benteke)

I'm not sure what's happening with Afro's potential DGW. I know that if they beat Wigan at the weekend, it won't be in GW33.

Also, I'm not sold on Cisse, he doesn't look as if he will explode with a run of goals anytime soon. Either of those options would work for me.
