Our regular look at the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game is rolled out this morning. As always, we cast an eye over the upper echelons in the Scout League and assesses the goings-on in the transfer market, with plenty Fantasy managers shopping around for new midfielders:

Scout League Standings

Kelvin Travers climbs back to the summit after an 86 point haul in Gameweek 31. His decision to captain Dimitar Berbatov paid off handsomely – the Bulgarian racked up a 26 point armband haul and was joined by Rickie Lambert, Robin Van Persie, Steven Gerrard, Gareth Bale, Michu, Leighton Baines and David De Gea in picking up the points. Kelvin now sits on 2,021 points, which is second in the overall rankings.

Sitting in second spot is Paul O Gorman, who registered 70 points last weekend. He also had Baines, Van Persie, Lambert, Bale and Michu but handed Santi Cazorla the captaincy and also has Luis Suarez to thank for boosting his tally. Paul is now fifth overall on 2,006 points.

Sanjeev Karki drops down to third position after a 62 point return in the Gameweek gone by. Michu, Bale and Cazorla chipped in from midfield, while Loic Remy and Olivier Giroud both netted up top – Luis Suarez was handed the vice captaincy after Juan Mata failed to play against Southampton.

Site regular Evs is a non-mover in fourth spot after an 81 point return last time out. At the back, De Gea and Baines both returned clean sheets, Michu, Bale and Cazorla racked up the midfield points, while captain Suarez, Berbatov and Van Persie all chipped in with points aplenty. Evs has now climbed to eighth in the overall standingson 2,004 points.

Finally, Nicolas Boutar completes our top five after picking up 69 points in the previous Gameweek. The points mainly came from midfield, with captain Cazorla, Bale and Michu doing the damage, while Giroud, Suarez, Christian Benteke and Joe Hart also helped Nicolas up to 2,000 points, tenth overall.

Thanks to the endeavours of our top five, Fantasy Football Scout remains top of the best leagues, with a 5.4 point lead over our nearest challenger. For contributors, Chris Atkinson holds steady at the top. He produced 81 points last weekend, with Suarez, Remy, Gerrard, Bale and captain Cazorla joined by Mark Schwarzer, Nemanja Vidic and Sylvain Distin at the back.

Market Trends

Santi Cazorla has proven the most popular target ahead of Saturday’s deadline. With Theo Walcott out and Gareth Bale almost certainly sidelined, the Spaniard has been snapped up by over 51,000 FPL managers – significantly more than any midfielder. Ironically, Bale was next most popular (14,000+) but it’s fair to assume those were prior to last night’s events at the Lane.

Elsewhere in midfield, there’s a battle for our Fantasy attentions. Liverpool duo Steven Gerrard and Philippe Coutinho, Chelsea pair Eden Hazard and Juan Mata and Arsenal’s Gervinho have all been acquired by 13-14,000 managers.

Up top, mid-price investment has been a priority. Rickie Lambert and Dimitar Berbatov lead the way by some distance, with around 28,000 transfers in apiece – Villa’s Christian Benteke is next in line with 13,000 new owners. Aside from Berbatov, though, Olivier Giroud is the only double Gameweek 33 forward to pick up an significant investment, with over 8,000 snapping up the Arsenal forward ahead of home games with Norwich and Everton. Arouna Kone and Jay Rodriguez have been acquired by similar amounts, while Demba Ba (10,000) and Luis Suarez (9,000) have also been popular targets.

At the back, Jan Vertonghen has earned over 39,000 new owners after registering his second double figure haul in three, though with the north London outfit without a fixture in Gameweek 33, many will be targeting alternatives, despite the Belgian’s fine form. Per Mertesacker (11,000) has also picked up plenty new owners and the likes of Leighton Baines and Joey O’Brien also been snapped up by around 6,000 managers apiece ahead of their respective doubles.

For transfers out, it’s all about Walcott and Bale. The Arsenal winger has been sold on by over 47,000 managers after being ruled out of tomorrow’s clash with West Brom, while Bale’s owners have acted rapidly after last night’s injury – 40,000 have already jumped ship. The suspended Marouane Fellaini is next up – nearly 30,000 have parted company with the Belgian but given that he’s back for next week’s double, this one seems a strange decision.

United have picked up plenty in spite of their impending double Gameweek. Although he’s now returned to training, Rafael’s groin problem has seen 26,000 get rid of the right-back, while Patrice Evra has been sold on by almost half that number after being rested for the last couple of league matches. Robin Van Persie and Wayne Rooney are both in the top four for least popular forwards – the duo have shed 12,000 owners apiece since last Saturday.

Ashley Cole’s hamstring injury has seen over 21,000 move on the Chelsea left-back, while a season-ending ankle injury has also seen Steven Fletcher lose a further 19,000 owners this week. Recent bench roles for Juan Mata and Daniel Sturridge have persuaded 13,000 and 16,000 to look elsewhere, while over 12,000 have transferred out Newcastle’s Moussa Sissoko ahead of three home games in four.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

    Hi all,

I am playing my wildcard next week and will be getting shot of Bale this week, so whoever I bring in, I can reverse in the WC. Therefore do I bring in for Bale:

    A: Hazard (already have Mata)
    B: Gerrard
    C: Another MF

or do I go for the jugular and also take out Michu a week earlier and bring in for a hit:
    D: Hazard and Coutinho

    Thanks in advance!

If you have a wildcard to play i'd get Hazard. Great fixture this week. Get Gerrard in your wildcard team though.

Gerrard has WHM and then rea though, so those are awesome fixtures. I'm the same dilemma too SwindonSteve....Have Mata and looking at those two. I'm leaning towards Gerrard. LIV will be camped out in front of the Hammers' goal peppering it all day. Chelski have so many options that Oscar, Moses, Ba, & company could do the biz instead of Hazard/Mata. Tough call. I think I'm going Gerrard and then get Hazard later for the double.

Rate my DGW 33 team. Rip it apart and make alternate suggestions. This is just a thought.

    *Current DGWers
    ^Future DGWers

    DDG*
    Baines* Sagna* Demel*
    Silva^ Santi* Fellaini* Gervinho*
    RVP* Rooney* Berbatov*

    Robles^ Morisson^ Dawson^ Jones^

WBA have nice fixtures post 33 and have a future DGW as well. Thoughts?

    Please rip it apart.

I think that's pretty tight, obviously you're counting on Gervinho RVP Rooney & Sagna all to play both games (Even DDG if the title is sorted by then) and I'd lose Demel really, but otherwise that should be a 100pt team. In theory.

If i'm being super critical, I think Enrique is a better shout than Sanga. There's every chance Sanga will either:

      A) Not play both games
      B) Not get a clean sheet in either

Enrique is nailed on and his interplay with Suarez is fantastic. Potential for assists all the way to the end of the season, with nice fixtures.

As for Gervinho, obviously there's a rotation risk, but at such a good price I suppose it's a calculated risk given the DGW and the injury to Walcott.

RVP/Rooney, might be an overkill on a Utd attack which will inevitably suffer from rotation. Having said that, you're sort of covering your back in that when 1 is rested the other is likely to start.

Silva, DDG, and Cazorla are season keepers for me now. And you have some good budget options with doubles.

After gw33 i'd think about Berba > Kone, and possibly Gervinho > Maloney. I'm sure you could probably make another free transfer too, and with the previous two you'd probably be able to upgrade your defence and get Zab/Clichy in for the Citeh DGW too?

Depends who you are benching. Relegation sides usually go for goals cause they need to win, so defenses deteriorate a bit. (according to Glovers research, which looks credible IMO)

My 3rd spot is between Zaba, Ben Davies and Pearce. Davies is the logical choice, but Norwich could easily score. The 'always go with the home player' rule is usually a good one.

tough choice for sure, you could make a case for Davies for sure with Norwich so impotent attacking wise. Utd vs City could be a 0-0 bore fest as well.

Bale has messed up my plans... This is my current team: http://i.imgur.com/cB7JuCp.png

My plan was to save my transfer and next week do: Davies, Michu, Begovic -----> Mertesacker, Fellaini, DDG(-4), I want them three players but now I'm left lumbered with a Bale injury, do I:

    A) Take Bale out for the likes of Hazard, Silva, Gerrard (Meaning (-8) next week.)
    B) Take Bale out for Gervinho, and then Davies + Begovic ---> DDG + Baines next week. (No Fellaini)
    C) Stick with the plan and play O'Brien this gameweek (team is linked above)
    D) Take Bale out and alter my plans meaning not having an Arsenal/Man Utd defender.
    E) Another suggestion?

I hate Bale. I think B is my preferred option this gameweek 😎 #Flair

Until last week it finally looked as if I would be able to go into the DGW without making a transfer. Now with Bale out and Rafa rotation I'm wondering what to do!

    Bego (Fed)
Zaba, Martin R, Wilson (O'Brien, Mariappa)
    Mata, Lampard, Michu, Townsend (Bale)
    RVP, Benteke, Suarez (C)
    £0.8m

    options:
    1. No transfers and hope that Mata & Lampard both play (or else wilson and mariappa are in)
    2. Bale--> Carloza (was planning on Mata to Caroza next week anyway)
    3. Any other ideas? Gerrard/Silva?

    Cheers for any input!

Why is everyone going crazy doing Bale - > single gameweekers? Surely the focus now should be to get in as many as possible DGW'ers no? Am i missing something?

No, but if you already own Santi theres not really any good options in midfield for this week. The alternative is to bite the price fall on Bale and then get Fellaini/Walcott next weekend, or have the points from someone else this gw. Im leaning heavily towards the latter.

Besides, Bale will most certainly go down the full amount for the next 2 gw`s, and possibly even more so since they have City after the blank. The money lost would just be too much, even though its less of a factor at this late stage.

Anyone else having serious bench issues for next week now?

Bale was the easy option for the bench next week, but now if I replace him and then do Puncheon to Fellaini next week as planned will have no idea who to bench...

How come all the talk on here since the Bale injury is whether to replace him with Gerrard, Hazard or maybe Fellaini?

Currently I have Theo, Caz, Mata, Coutinho, Bale, Suarez, Lambert and Remy. Can't be that dissimilar to a lot of people on here.

The first thing to come into my mind when Bale went down was I'd now be able to downgrade him to Townsend or someone else cheap and then I could upgrade Remy to Rooney or RVP for GW33.

Would that not be the sensible option rather than buying another expensive midfielder for Bale?

    Right have got.

    Begovic
    Clyne Turner JEnrique Samba
    Sissoko Mata Santi(v)
    Benteke Lambert Suarez (c)

Jaaskelainen Rafael (poss inj) Walcott (inj) Bale (inj)

    Probably gonna sell bale but
    1. have walcott and santi. rooney has a knock and playing city, RvP needs a rest
    2. was thinking gerard for bale but have suarez
    3. have mata so don’t want hazard for 2 in a team with likely rotation

    1,2 and 3 currently has me thinking bale>silva and benteke>giroud/berba for -4.
Samba to Mertesacker for gw33, have will have 6 DGWs if no injuries.

    Sound plan in difficult times?

Gerrard and Hazard in for Walcott and Bale.

      A) Doubling up on Liverpool cover isn't a bad plan with their remaining fixtures, plus Gerrard is on pens etc, and a Suarez yellow this weekend isn't beyond the relms of possibility.

      B) Doubling up on Chelsea isn't as big an issue as you probably think: You already have the player with the biggest rotation risk (Mata) and getting Hazard means you're basically doubling your chances of success in terms of minutes. I'd have the 2 of them short term and when you decide which one to ditch get Silva in for the rest of the season.

      C) Man Utd coverage is a tough one cos of injuries/rotation. I wouldn't bother, or 1 player at most in the week of the double.

      D) I've gone for Berba over Giroud, but that's just a personal preference because Berba is simply brilliant to watch.

Sorry for repost, but I would like some more opinions on whether it would be an option to go with Baines instead of Fellaini to avoid becnh dilemma:

If I do Marveaux to Fellaini and Lukaku to Berbatov next week, it will give me the following:

    Mata – Cazorla – Gervinho – Fellaini – Sissoko
Van Persie – Suarez – Berbatov

It really is a selection nightmare… Should I get Baines instead of Fellaini or who to bench?
