As many of you will have seen via the article comments over the past 24-hours, the FFS UEFA site – which is run by an enthusiastic group of loyal FFS community posters – has set up an Fantasy Premier League tournament based on a cricket format modelled on the ICC Champions Trophy.

Already, substantial interest has been shown in the tournament and as a result, we offered to create this article for those Fantasy managers keen to take part, or perhaps just puzzled as to all the recent comment chatter. Hopefully, this article will make it make it easier for those participants to find and converse on the subject.

We’re also keen to collect all future talk of the tournament under one article. We’ll feature this article at the top of the site to make it easy to find so please limit discussion of the ICC tournament to this post from this point on.

Just to be clear, this is not a Fantasy Football Scout supported tournament and we won’t be on hand to answer queries or clear up issues associated with it – we’ll leave that to the UEFA Council guys.

For those taking part, the very best of luck. As a Scotsman, though, all this is beyond me – I even had to google the acronym “ICC” for clarification.

Having spoken to the guys behind the game earlier this morning, though, we have been given kind permission to recreate their post advertising the game in full below:

Managers!

We’ve been privileged to organise several cups and leagues for the benefit of the FFS community. You’ve experienced a variety of football-themed competitions ranging from the Euro’s to the Champions/Europa League to the First Division Leagues.

We’re at a special juncture here at FFS UEFA. For the first time in the history of Fantasy Football, we’re introducing an FPL-based head-to-head cup, themed on a cricket competition.
Ladies and gentlemen, presenting to you – the FFS ICC Champions Trophy 2013, in partnership with FFS UEFA.

Who is it for?
All posters of the FFS community. The cricket lovers would take more interest to it, but it’s open to everyone.

Cricket? What the hell is going on? How does it work?
There are 8 teams in total. Each team has 12 players each.

A team’s total in a particular gameweek is the sum of the top 11 players FPL scores in that GW, which means the lowest scoring FPL player becomes the 12th man for the team.

Then, two teams go head-to-head and the team with the higher runs scored wins the particular clash.

When does the tournament run?
The tournament runs from GW33 – GW38, according to the real Champions Trophy format.

Where can I find more details on this tournament?
The tournament will be run on the linked spreadsheet . So be sure to bookmark the link and become familiar with its geography. On FFS UEFA, you will find this Cup under the “International” menu.

What’s unique about this tournament?
This game is aimed to bring out the “team” element to the fore, just like how it works in the real world. A team’s success isn’t dependent on one player alone after all.

As much as it’s a team game, leadership is so crucial. Each team will be led by a captain and a vice-captain, guided by a coach.

The coach is the know-it-all, who will answer any questions you may have during the course of the tournament. He will also have frequent strategic discussions with the captain. The coach is also the link of every team with FFS UEFA. They have been chosen by FFS UEFA for their valuable understanding of the game.

The captain is the face of the team. He is the one who scouts the players (including vice-captain) for his team. He has the ultimate power to pick his final squad – he may even decide to disallow the coach from playing in his squad. During the tournament, the captain also has the power to replace a team player with the consent of the coach. Also, in the case of a tie in a particular clash, the captain’s FPL score is the tie-breaker. The respective captains have already been picked by each of the 8 coaches.

The vice-captain will deputize for the captain in his absence and share his responsibility where apt. Every captain has either already or will be picking their vice-captains.

Live Scorecards by Pratik – Over the course of the gameweek, you will have the chance to view the live scorecards of each team (similar to Scorecast for the leagues). This is brought to you by the official scorer-cum-umpire-cum-player of FFS ICC, Pratik. More updates on this will follow.

Team Threads – Each team will also have a team thread on the FFS UEFA website. You can use this to tell us more about your team’s make-up, make any press conferences, discuss your team strategies, taunt opponents, discuss your FPL moves. Basically anything with an objective to enliven the team spirit. Feel free to speak to the coaches regarding this, as they all have access to the team threads.

This is how you can join a team – Introducing the Scouting Period
The Scouting period for the teams runs until April 1st. Basically it’s a period when each team will be scouting for players (along with their FPL IDs). The squads will then be announced on 2nd April.

You can also approach a captain, vice-captain or a coach to join the team of your interest. If you check the squad page, most of them have linked their Twitter or Email IDs. You will notice a few teams have signed a a few core team players already. So if you’d like to express your interest, the time is now!

Here’s the best part. There are no rules for the scouting period. You have no obligation to keep your word after signing for a team. It’s the biggest benefit for you as a a player – enjoy the open market. As long as you let your captain/vice-captain/coach know within 31st March, you’re good. For example, you can transfer to Australia if you find their offer/team more interesting, despite signing for England earlier.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    NEW PAGE REPOST

    Morkelniñorules says:

    PITCH REPORT

    Good morning cricketers,

It’s GW32 and it’s time for the ICC Friendlies. ARE YOU READY?!?!?!

With the game about to commence in a few hours, we have the pitch report from our in-house FFS ICC commentator Geoff Shreeves.

There is no sign of last night’s scary rain; the sun appears to be shining with full zeal and zest, almost like it is here to witness the much awaited competition. Batting first will make little difference on this soil. The pitch is green but less than what was expected. Dew will be a major factor in the encounters. The pitch is also expected to witness some hard hitting strokes from teams. With the weather being warm and humid, the players’ physical fitness will be tested.

And now…..we have the much anticipated team sheets.

We aren't able to release Pratik's Live Scorecards for the friendlies, as its still in development. Rest assured, it should be out before the actual Cup starts in GW33. It should be pretty cool if turns out the way we are expecting it to. It will show the starting XI's of each team and more importantly we'll be able to compare the effect of say a Rooney goal on Spur Lanka vs New Zealand.

      Good times ahead!

Granny thought Mark needed some fitness before he could be risked in a full game after his trip to Las Vegas. Jonty failed to pass a medical test after having experienced a traumatic GW31 - needed more time to recuperate. I'm building up my fitness for the actual Cup. Granville, being the captain decided to give the others a chance. However rumors have it that he was forced to make that decision after he had a gun against his head

By my count, the Westcombe Indies lead Spur Lanka by 8 runs after the games today, with 8 wickets still in hand (132 wickets per side):

    Spur Lanka
    131 for 52
(i.e. 52 players and no captains)

    Westcombe Indies
    139 for 44
    (i.e. 43 players and 1 captain)

*Warning* really long post you probably won't find interesting

    Team India Day 1, GW32

Milanista got off to a flying start with a massive flair move by going Gervinho(c). And with an assist and baps to come it looks to have paid off for him. A fine example of the courageous decisions Team India's members are willing to make in pursuit of glory. He also had Turner for his goal which is nice.

Captain Shirokov also had Turner which shows you how united we are here at Team India headquarters. We even choose the same cheap defenders that score goals on the regular (AKA once in a blue moon)

SantiagoUnreal got off to a decent start with Benteke delivering the goods once again. It's now 4 games in a row that Benteke has scored and as one of the first passengers on the Benteke-wagon you can rest assured Santiago is feeling mighty pleased with himself right now...even if Benteke's goals drive Sunderland deeper into the mire. (please get relegated Wigan) With Cabaye and Rooney as differentials he's hoping the luck is with him this weekend!

JK was another one to benefit from Turner's heroics today and with Remy and Rooney still to play he could be feeling very happy about his set of differentials by the end of the week!

The Game had a difficult start to the weekend but with Mata(c) he's made a bold move that may well pay off big time. And with Sturridge and RVP also to come he'll be confident there's a few more goals yet to celebrate!

Dr Ennet also benefited from Benteke's goal today and he'll be hoping like a lot of us Suarez(c) does the business tomorrow.

Pepin is another who had the foresight to get on the Turner wagon and with Remy he has a serious differential tomorrow in a game that's sure to have goals.

Parmtree, a keen Berbist, is hoping Berbatov can continue his epic scoring run of late away to Newcastle, he's also got Townsend as a differential this week which could turn out to be a nice move if there are a few goals in the QPR Wigan game.

Chancing Punt has made the daring move of swapping Mignolet and De Gea this week along with getting Bale out for Gerrard for a 4 point hit. Although with Michu first sub he'll be hoping one of his players picks up a knock in the warm up tomorrow. Overall he looks like he's still in for a good week if the rest of his attackers can deliver.

MCH has just wildcarded and loaded up on DGWers for GW33 which is sure to see him keep his starting place when the real thing begins next week. He also, like Santiagounreal, has gone for Cabaye and will be hoping his hunch was right!

TommyTour made a great decision playing Clyne this week but sadly made the bad decision (in retrospect) of benching Turner and playing Davies! Sincerest condolences my friend. We have a lot of Turner fans but clearly there was always going to be one non-believer, unlucky Tommy. He's still having a decent week however and should be confident going into tomorrow's games with both Suarez and Sturridge set to wreak havoc.

    Top scorer today

    Captain Shirokov - 22

Letting the team down - MCH and Chancing Punt with 5 points each 😉

Team India, 152 points NOT OUT

Posted on the main thread but though it should be here too.

    This is for RCA.

The wife wanted me to help with the allotment today, and asked if I would go to the nursery and get some topsoil and plants (for Breadbin: this is a laddish pose; I don’t really call her “the wife”; in real life I address her as “oh for f**k sake woman!”).

I said there were some matches on today, but I was willing to do it. What she didn’t know is that (a) the nursery has a website and (b) it’s right across from a pub (for Breadbin: again, a pose; in real life I do not deceive my wife, I count on her inferior female intellect to shield my designs).

I ordered everything online to be ready when I arrived and then spent the hour and a half I was supposed to be spending picking out items sitting in the pub watching footy and ogling the comely female bar staff (Breadbin: more laddish pose: in real life I don’t fantasise about women who are not my wife; I fantasise about teenaged girls who are not my wife).

In the end, I got huge credit for giving up prime football watching time to help with the wife’s project. Cue BJ and steak night chez Eunuch Jelly!

A couple of ideas for making this tournament even more fun next season...

    1. The designated "opening batsman" (number 1 on the team sheet) gets their score doubled.
    2. The chance to sub in the "12th man" (number 12 on the team sheet) for any player in the 11, but the call has to be made before kick off on the first Sunday game (I.e. after the Saturday games to retain an element of risk)

    What do you think?

      Good Idea MJ.

I have a plan. Why not arrange next season's tournament with some sort of live bidding(Auction) of players like in IPL.. Captain will have limited budget. How's this?

This would also be a fun idea. The only downside is that people might want to stay loyal to their current countries, although that itself may go against the Real life ICC format where the only loyalty is to the cash! So yeah, that would make it more like the ICC format.

I think as long as it was made clear what the rules were going to be in advance people would be fine with it. The problem this time was rule changes after it had started.

SL 275/115 (i.e. 17 players still to play)

Rough estimate of bench points also gives the WIndies another boost with Clyne and Michu off set by Mertesacker to give 12, while the Spur Lankans can only call on Sissoko and Riether to make 4.

      Just to simplify:

I think you might me wondering how come Aussies score is still 288 after including Maloney's 10 points to your initial total of 280 .

            Let me sort this out

Chu calculated Aussies score initially and it came out to be 280 . I don't know if he took the hits into account or not ..

But i did it all over again considering the hits , bench points, baps . Some of your other team mates also had 2 to 4 points coming off their benches as well .

    Ok here's a tricky dilemma.

Imagine this is GW38 and we're in the finals.

You own Kolarov and your ICC team has 2 Kolarovs remaining tomorrow, whilst your rival team has 5 Kolarovs remaining. You know a good performance from Kolarov will make your team end up on the losing side, whilst increasing your own overall rank to less than 1K (your best rank)

    What would you hope for?

    A) Good performance for Kolarov (Me before team)
    B) Bad performance for Kolarov (Team before me)
