A ding-dong battle produced plenty for neutral but relatively little for Fantasy managers as the Arsenal and Everton attacks failed to breakdown the defences on show. Here’s the Stock Check from Tuesday’s Gameweek 33 encounter…

On the Up

The Everton Defence
A fourth clean sheet in five for David Moyes’ rearguard ensured that owners of Leighton Baines and Sylvain Distin fetched strong returns over the double Gameweek. The latter has offered outstanding value, having also registered an assist in the win over QPR for a value of 5.3. Before Gameweek 30, Everton had kept just three shut-outs: despite such humble defensive returns, Baines is now comfortably the top scoring defender in the FPL on 153 points.

Kieran Gibbs & Bacary Sagna
While Arsene Wenger looks set to continue rotating his centre-backs, he chose to retain both Gibbs and Sagna tonight, despite having the option to bring in Nacho Monreal and Carl Jenkinson. Given that tonight’s starting full-backs played back-to-back 90 minutes in the space of three days, it seems they’re now established as Arsene Wenger’s first choice in their respective positions. That presumably consigns both Monreal and Jenkinson to bit part roles. It remains to be seen if Wenger rotates and hands them opportunity at Fulham this weekend.

Going Down

Santi Cazorla
Back-to-back blanks left thousands of Fantasy managers disgruntled as the Spaniard offered paltry returns from the Gameweek captaincy. It’s just one goal in the last six now for Cazorla, and that came in the home clash with Reading. Given his inconsistency, we may now see significant sales of Cazorla with Gareth Bale likely to be “most-wanted” should he regain fitness in time for Tottenham’s now confirmed double in Gameweek 36. Given Cazorla’s captaincy flop, Robin Van Persie’s performance at West Ham tomorrow night could now be crucial to many a mini-league.

Lukas Fabianski
The Pole missed out with a rib injury this evening and, having seen his compatriot, Wojciech Szczesny, keep a shut-out on this return to the starting lineup, it now remains to be seen if Fabianski can earn an recall on his return to fitness.

Gervinho
As expected, the Ivorian made way for the return of Theo Walcott to the starting lineup. The recent run of starts brought strong returns for Gervinho but it’s clear that he’ll face a uphill struggle to regain a role in Wenger’s starting XI having been unused on the bench tonight. Those who held or invested in Gervinho for the double Gameweek will either look to sell on or hope for heavy rotation for the weekend trip to the Cottage.

Marouane Fellaini
The Belgian put on superb showing for Everton tonight but, having been dropped into a central midfield role, the performance is likely to cause anxiety amongst his Fantasy owners. With Leon Osman sidelined, David Moyes will have been delighted with Fellaini’s showing and, while he will be expected to be restored in a more attacking role on Osman’s return, Felliani could well be deployed in the engine room for the visit to Sunderland this weekend.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

          We all know he's not the same from the Houston and Orlando days. Totally agree with you on the Spurs part. Last year's playoffs he took over vs. the Celtics off the bench and staged a comeback before spraining his ankle, the juice maybe scarce but it still burns. I like veteran players because they get humbler as they grow old and teach a thing or two to the new upcoming stars.

    How does this look for a dgwk 36 wildcard?

    Cech Robles
    Verthongen Zabaleta Demel Martin Davies
    Bale Mata Maloney Walcott Michu
    Kone Aguero Suarez

    This gwk has been a car crash, as have the past few. I need this season to end before I end up out side the top 10k! I'm on a steep slope!

      Honestly I think you should have played wc in 33 but howsever :
      Hart IMO , Zabaletta won't play 2 , Davies won't play 2 ,
      Mata and aguero won't play 2 either - look again yaya , lennon , Dawson , tevez maybe - very hard to call too many risks but it's your last roll of the dice viper.

        I honestly don't think if I played my wildcard that it would have made a huge difference, I just think it would have cancelled out my 8 point hit. I'm not feeling confident at the minute, i'm getting all the 50/50 calls wrong!

          Ouch I'm on 68 after playing wc v your 27 incl -8 , but luckily and I mean that I got the 50/50 calls right , ie so far Ddg/ baines/ Sagna / wally / Santi + Afro to a point and Rvp(c) .
          Did you not think this gw was more predictable player wise than a minefield that is gw36 IMO ? - I honestly thought advice on hate last week pointed that way,
          Hang in there Viper and looking at your team your genuinely unlucky (Monreal reminds me of lampards cameo for me 2 wks ago keeping Snods points on bench ,
          Fingers crossed for you with Berbatov and Rooney hopefully they will turn your week around but remember at lot of guys like me will take -4/-8 in 36 so you will benefit then with a clean slate that week and you have the fun factor available to you also 🙂

      Id say if Ashley cole is out for 1 more than save a transfer, if not than. Jenkinson to a wigan defender or Dawson, just in case your defense has someone out injured. I would look to bring in Maloney or Jordi Gomez for Punch next week also ship one of Caz or Walcott for Bale.

    Good Evening. 6 players have already advanced to the 2nd Round of Deadzone Bracketology:
    Henry Region -- LeFondre, Osman, Coleman (huge upset as Pienaar's YC cost him the win)
    Drogba Region -- Baines
    Van Nistelrooy Region -- none
    Bergkamp Region -- Sessegnon, Podolski

    Many more to play tomorrow, with 30-40 players still to go. Here is the spreadsheet -- will post the complete brackets later in the week.

        Mirallas goes against Dzeko -- they're brackets like a tennis tournament so there are 32 "matches" this GW, then 16 the next, then 8, etc. Players keep advancing then playing the winners as in a gigantic knockout competition. You should be alright.

    Baines, GJ, Clyne, Wilson, Harte

    RVP, Suarez, Berbatov

    I'm thinking of:
    Caz-->Bale
    Fellaini-->Michu
    Baines-->Zabaleta
    RVP-->Aguero

      Personally I'm avoiding Chelsea and going for a mid of Michu, Maloney, Silva, Bale, Walcott

      I like hazard over mata though because he's so direct and selfish and still improving - more to come next season IMO.

      Neither? Do you really need Michu back that badly? Maybe wait one more game? All 3 players have semi-difficult fixtures.

      Having said that, if you REALLY want to get MIchu (esp for Southampton) then sell Gerrard. I assume you have Suarez.

        Home to Southampton isn't really a semi difficult game. Southampton and Swansea both like to attack in numbers so it could be end to end.

        I'd keep fellaini for now, especially since it leaves to cash for future transfers

          Could be yea, I just feel that Southampton are the form side home AND away, and I feel that "end to end" is more of anyone's guess at the moment. Perhaps at home they're more adventurous yes, but away from home Saints haven't conceded a goal since the 4-2 loss at Newcastle and (maybe) the last minute pen Boruc saved at Norwich.

          On paper it isn't a semi-difficult fixture, but based on form/relegation I just feel personally that this will be deceptively difficult for Swansea, especially if Southampton press Swansea into errors (which is quite likely to happen).

            Yeah it is true Southampton have dominated heavily recently and should've beaten west ham to make it 4 wins in a row. 3 of last 4 were at home though so hard to judge away form.

              true. Nevertheless Gerrard plays a tired Chelsea and Fellaini plays Sunderland at home I think, which is always a good fixture anyway. He could always wait a game.

          actually, now that i think about it aguero would cost me an extra 4 points over tevez/dzeko as i'd have to sell gerrard to get the cash for it - i guess that rules him out then

      Sweet team. Think my draft last night was:

      Hart
      Vertonghen Zaba (I have him already)
      Maloney Bale
      Kone Aguero/Tevez

      I like Spurs, City and Wigan's fixtures, I just feel that West Brom, Swansea and Chelsea's games aren't good for the long run if you know what I mean...
