Robin Van Persie delivers again to help United to a hard-fought draw at Upton Park, while City’s huff and puff is just enough to earn them the three points courtesy of Carlos Tevez’s brilliance. With Chelsea earning a convincing win at the Cottage with goals from two centre-backs, Wednesday put a lid on a double Gameweek that largely failed to reach the heights anticipated. Here’s the Stock Check on tonight’s Gameweek conclusion…

On the Up

Robin Van Persie
As a disgruntled Wayne Rooney trudged off the pitch on 71 minutes, it was left to Van Persie to earn United a point, producing a fine, if somewhat controversial, finish from a tight angle to return his second goal of the double Gameweek. The Dutchman has timed his return to form perfectly, rewarding those who kept the faith for the two fixtures and promoting a mini-league swing that could well shake-up the season run-in.

Shinji Kagawa
A classy performance from the Japanese international produced two more assists to underline his strong Fantasy potential. In his last five league starts for United, Kagawa has fetched three goals and three assists. Clearly, he will be closely monitored in the pre-season and earmarked as a potential prime target should his role appear more assured.

Andy Carroll
Firmly in the shop window as speculation mounts on his future at Anfield, Carroll has been nothing short of superb in recent weeks. Tonight his bustling style bothered the United back four, although he was perhaps fortunate to remain on the pitch following a challenge on David De Gea. Regardless, Carroll returned the assist for Ricardo Vaz Te’s and has returned a strong 12 points, pre-bonus, over the Gamweek.

David Luiz
A first strike in the league since Gameweek 18 was well worth the wait. Luiz’s effort was a blockbusting 30-yarder that offered a spectacular reminder as to the Brazilian’s attacking flair and potential. Luiz has started six of the last seven under Rafa Benitez and will be another name to monitor next season if he can cement a similarly consistent starting role under the new regime. In the short-term, Luiz could well earn Fantasy interest, although he will likely need to strike again in the double Gameweek 36 given that he faces United and Spurs.

John Terry
Terry deserves our attention by virtue of his two goals at the Cottage but, in truth, his Fantasy potential has waned considerably this term. Terry has been unable to establish regular starts under Rafa Benitez and it remains to be seen if he can regain his status as the defensive stalwart under a new manager at the Bridge.

Carlos Tevez
With Sergio Aguero replaced at half-time, it was left to Tevez to show his qualities with a smart finish to hand City three points that they scarcely deserved. Nonetheless, Tevez’s goal was his fourth in his last six league appearances, emphasising his value to Roberto Mancini’s side and perhaps reviving interest in Tevez prior to City’s forthcoming double Gameweek.

Going Down

Wayne Rooney
Deployed in a midfield role at Stoke at the weekend, Rooney got the opportunity to remind his manager of his worth further up the pitch but fell flat. Rooney’s performance was strangely abject and, with 20 minutes to go and needing a goal, Sir Alex Ferguson hauled him off to replace him with Ryan Giggs. Amidst speculation surrounding his future at the club, it could be that Rooney is distracted and perhaps at odds with the current situation at Old Trafford given the recent roles his been asked to fill.

The City Defence
While tonight brought yet another clean sheet for the Citizen’s rearguard, few Fantasy managers were in profit. With Micah Richards now fit to fill a number of roles and further options in Joleon Lescott, Kolo Toure and Aleks Kolarov, the City back four is unlikely to stay unchanged match-to-match. The schedule ahead of them dictates that they’ll be rotation and Roberto Mancini demonstrated tonight that he’s unlikely to be shy in resting personnel. The shift to three at the back for the second half could also be a concern.

Sergio Aguero
Replaced at half-time, the Argentine was perhaps feeling the effects of Sunday’s semi-final having only recently returned from injury. Aguero will surely be in Mancini’s plans for the trip to White Hart Lane on Sunday but, clearly, there are still doubts surrounding his ability to put in a full shift and with Edin Dzeko available as a “plan b”, Aguero’s pitch time, in the short-term at least, could be a concern for would-be investors.

Dimitar Berbatov
Like Santi Cazorla, Bebertov was a player identified as a potential double Gameweek hot property and yet, over his two matches, the Bulgarian failed to produce. Having gone in Gameweek 33 with five goals in five league starts, Berbatov drew blanks at Villa and tonight against the Chelsea defence and will now doubtless suffer significant sales as Fantasy managers turn to double Gameweek assets.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Cheers mate. I agree with you, but it does bring doubt into my mind which is a shame considering their fixtures. At this stage of the season I think I need consistency. Hart might be my safest City option.

Will you keep Nasty and Aguero?

Fantasy is just being cruel to me last week, worst ever score last week, and this wek has just been disappointing. Monreal gets 0 points for 2 games, Zabeletta doesnt play in a cleansheet game, rooney was useless, samba is just mocking me....I got green arrow but that was only because I dropped 45k places last time. Cant wait for the season to end in truth

I need to find away to cath my ML leader which is 85 points ahead.
    Fabianski, Bunn
    Baines, Zab, Turner, Enrique, Fonte
    Cazorla, Walcott, Fellaini, Nolan, Hazard
    Cisse, Berba, Suarez
1 FT, 0.7 in the bank.
I need huge amount of luck. Don't care about overall rank.
So with that being said, Mid > Snodgrass (C)?
Name some crazy punt to bring in and captain. The last 5 GW are going to be fun!¨

Just worried that i have a little bit too much money tied up in defence with Baines, Johnson & Azpilicueta. Would like to downgrade one of them, maybe to Turner although if Bunn keeps his place that might not be such a good idea

Been living with Triple Chelsea midfield for 2 weeks now, and I'm thinking of keeping it until the DGW. Though I think Lamps might not start against Liverpool, do I bench him in that week? I could get Kone for Benteke/Berbatov. I think benteke has a tougher fixture this week, but Villa being in a relegation battle, he should be getting some returns? Or do hell with it and just get Michu for Lamps?

    Cheers. 🙂

Lampard needs 3 goals to break the record, he's going to do it imo. I'll take 3+ goals from a mid over the last 5 GWs. Planning to transfer him in GW35 myself.

This week isn't ideal but then they have SWA, mun/TOT, avl, EVE. You may as well keep the mids, or at least 2 of them.

I am keeping two surely, and I want to keep them all, but I am pretty sure Ramires and Mikel will start against Liverpool. I can bench him for this one. What do you say then?

I'd defo keep, it's usually high scoring when Chelsea plays a top club, and Utd and Tot will be massive. No point getting rid now and if Rafa has any sense he'll be playing his strongest XI for both.

Bale is a must. If you can stretch to Michu for 5th mid then great, if not then Maloney or bench fodder is still fine, I wouldn't lose sleep over not having Michu. Lamps -> Michu could work but I'd look at what's possible with that transfer elsewhere first. An extra Kone or Lukaku or a City player could be the better transfer.

I would say you sound like you being 'put off' your own team just because you have 3 midfielders from 1 team. (Maybe you aren't, as you're the one that got them all in 😀 )

But just think of it as expected points, if you think Lamps won't start, do Lamps > Michu as a +ve points gain, not because it's a -ve losing one of three Chelsea mids. 🙂

I get the point, but if you look more into it, I'm only going to lose one DGWer for another. I can find another route into this one if I really want Michu that bad later. But Mili's points above on Lamps are pretty good. And I think I agree with him.

    Gentlemen,

Bryan Ruiz came & served his time well however, it's time to set up for yet another fun filled DGW...

So, the question is Lukaku or Kone as my third for the run in?

I'm leaning Kone, as I feel he's in better form & Wigan do need to score goals if they hope to climb out of the basement...

I think it has to be Kone by a mile. Lukaku doesn't play in the big games somehow, doesn't start I mean. And WBA have City away, so I expect Clarke to bench him in that one. And Kone, well he's been consistent and under the radar.

Right need everyone's thoughts on my plan for up to GW36.

This is my current team for GW 34:

    Mignolet

    Rafael Demel Turner

    Walcott Santi Fellaini Hazard

    RVP (C) Remy Lambert

    Bench: Fabianski Maloney Davies Clyne

I'm going to keep the FT this week.

For GW 35 i will do Caz to Bale, RVP to Tevez and Rafa to Kompany for a -4.

And For GW36 i will do Remy to Kone and Fellaini to Silva also for a -4.

That will give me this team for GW36:

    Mignolet

    Kompany Davies Turner

    Walcott Silva Bale Hazard Maloney

    Kone Tevez

    Bench: Fabianski Lambert Demel Clyne.

Does that look good to everyone?

Is there a reason for RVP's two baps or do the fantasy gods just hate me? Seems to me unfair that Kagawa got 0 baps and RVP got lucky off of a rebound shot

Guess I can't complain. 11 points from Kags is even more than what I realistically expected.

Probably just for this next week and then getting Bale. Troubles me that I will likely have to downgrade Baines to Vert when Everton play Fulham to fund it but oh well

I honestly reckon Benteke will outscore Lukaku even with the DGW. After Man Utd, there are plenty of goals to be had. Important goals that are desperately needed. WBA don't need anything.

I sympathise with Unreal just a bit. The thing that kills me about FPL is that you can have decent week and still feel like dirt.

I ended up with 68(-8) and only dropped from 214 to 281; my ICC team won and I was not the weakest link; I made it through to the final of the Members' Cup on a Demel assist. So I should be happy, right?

Instead, I feel brutalised by all the wrong the decision I made llike benching Luiz and swapping Sess for Fellaini. That's all I can think about. This game is about good decisions, and if you make a bunch of bad decisions then even good outcomes can't make you feel btter about it.
