Tottenham’s stunning victory in Milan riled Gennaro Gattuso to the point of head-butting a 59-year-old and completely overshadowed Newcastle’s fine 2-0 win at St Andrews. Well almost. European matches make lovely distractions but it’s events on a damp evening in Birmingham that really matter to us Fantasy Managers…

Jonas Gutierrez was undoubtedly the star performer on show. Picked out in our Scouting the Doubles article as a possible punt and subject of recent attention in our Members’ Numbers Game articles, the Argentinian came good with two superb assists which help to earn him 3 FPL Bonus Points for the first time this season.

Leon Best is beginning to emerge as an extremely viable third striker option. His fifth goal of the season saw him out-jump Birmingham’s Roger Johnson on the far post and was enough to earn him Bonus recognition. Best’s starting role in Alan Pardew’s lineup looks assured and at just 4.3, he looks a strong bench forward selection to free up cash elsewhere in our squads.

The Newcastle back four kept its second consecutive clean sheet having claimed a 0-0 at Ewood at the weekend. Their defence looked a shambles in the first-half against Arsenal but Pardew’s rearguard has suddenly discovered some resolve. The likes of Danny Simpson and Mike Williamson are offering value at the very bottom of the price scale, with Jose Enrique and Fabricio Coloccini also options for those looking for the chance of stronger attacking and Bonus returns.

The potential of Best of other Newcastle assets is improved markedly but a run of fixtures that has them face three of the next four at St James’ Park with Bolton, Everton and Wolves all presenting beatable opposition. A trip to Stoke slotted in at Gameweek 30 also offers opportunity for returns. The Magpies have lost just one of their last eight matches.

Alan Pardew kept faith with the same starting lineup that earned him a point a Blackburn. He does now have concerns on the fitness of striker Peter Lovenkrands however. The Dane opened the scoring in the first minute of last night’s encounter but suffered a thigh injury that forced him off on 77 minutes.

Alex McLeish also kept an unchanged side – with Obafemi Martins starting up front against his former club. He was replaced early in the second-half by Cameron Jerome, as the Nigerian again struggled to make an impact. McLeish is likely to rotate his options somewhat for the FA Cup tie at the weekend with the Carling Cup Final to follow. While Birmingham have a blank in Gameweek 28 then, they do face a double fixture against West Brom and Everton immediately after. That is likely to see Fantasy Managers hold their Birmingham assets, although further investment in the likes of Ben Foster, Roger Johnson and Craig Gardner could be called into question following last night’s result.

Tottenham’s superb 1-0 victory in the San Siro set things up beautifully for the second-leg on March 9. That game follows the away trip to Wovles in Gameweek 29 which comes after the Spurs blank in Gameweek 28. Rest and rotation will be a concern then – particularly for owners of Rafael Van der Vaart. The Dutchman returned to action in last night’s victory and should play some part in the visit to Blackpool next Tuesday. Harry Redknapp does have options however and, with the Milan second-leg in mind, we may well see Van der Vaart and certainly Gareth Bale, kept in reserve with the likes of Niko Kranjcar and Roman Pavlyuchenko presenting options for the trip to Wolves. Redknapp will likely be forced into changes to his back four for the trip to Blackpool next week with Vedran Corluka leaving the San Siro on crutches last night following the “challenge” from Mathieu Flamini.

City’s 0-0 draw in Greece with Aris Salonika saw Edin Dzeko draw a blank and miss further opportunities to settle himself in sky blue. The Bosnian earned a recall to a strong City starting lineup with James Milner and Pablo Zabaleta making way for Dzeko and the return of Shaun Wright-Phillips. Roberto Mancini was quick to offer reassurance for his new striker and hinted that he is looking to give Dzeko time to form his partnership with Carlos Tevez…

“This was only the second time Tevez and Dzeko had played together and they need time to gel. They need more games together”

The appearance of Mario Balotelli from the bench however, indicates that Mancini now has options to rotate his troops up front and we can expect to see a few shuffles over City’s next few league games. City play their FA Cup tie with Notts County and the second leg with Aris before returning to Gameweek action against Fulham at Eastlands.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I have Berbatov and RVP upfront with DJ Campbell. I'm thinking of doing RVP for Tevez next week, then Berb for RVP the following!

Well as you can see i have all three (RVP,Tevez, Berb)
but i just think that hes dropped off lately. I suppose thats how hes been playing most of the season. And if united do have a double i dont even think he will start both.

Suarez is tempting but pools fixtures are a bit of a mixed bag to say the least.

The "timing" of dropping(or not) of Berba is going to be crucial for me if i am going to win my mini league. I need to make up 20pts and the leader is a big ManU fan and will never drop Berba.

Looking at the league maybe you already have your saviour. Carlos could hit a big score and youd be right back in it.
I know bents got good fixtures but compared to tevez his consistancy is no where near.

I have been thinking about the striker combinaton for weeks now. Im keping RVP and Tevez, its the third striker rotation im not convinced on yet. Three spring to mind to rotate in this slot, Berba, Bent and Gyan.

        I was gonna say that.

Isn't it a given that with posession you are more likely to win.. I like how that article tries to sound ground breaking as if its like a new concept.

            Thanks for the feedback.

Not meant to be groundbreaking in any sense at all. Just an opinion on where I think the game could be won or lost for Arsenal. This Barca team are so good at regaining posession that if Arsenal cannot put their obvious technical ability to best use they could be on the end of a hiding.

Being serious for a minute i do think there is a point there. If you do actually want some feedback...

Obviously you didn't mean it like that but it comes across as if by simply having that in mind the battle is already won, maybe by talking a bit more about what you think Arsenal should be doing to go about it.

If you haven't already, have a read of Dixon's blog.

If they can cope with the pressure (not mental) but physical pressure which Barcelona impose in oppositions own box and manage to hit keep possesion through this then they will do well

For me Arsenal could win but then again they seem a nice match tactically for Barcelona.

Barcelona as a few teams have shown can be got at when teams sit deep, allow no space or a through ball behind and filter all plays into the packed central areas. Then hit them on the break when you manage to get the ball.

However as we know Arsenal like to push up too, dont surrender the ball to the opposition deliberately, are poor are pressurizing opposition on the whole and arent regarded as a team which is built on playing on the break

As i felt earlier despite all this I still think they have a chance as they are at home, can keep the ball( to some extinct - but will be interesting to see under higher pressure will they fold), and have a player - walcott and Fabregas to exploit the high line of Barcelona.

As its knockout Arsenal could win. But i cant see them doing it by going against themselves and their naturally manner of play. If they do pull it off (win i mean tonight) they will be one of the only teams to beat Barcelona playing Possession football and not on the break.

Im really looking forward to it.

Regarding Mario Götze, who was discussed on the previous page, the player's sources said this morning that there hasn't been an approach from Man United as yet. Even if he wanted to move, which I don't think he does, I can't imagine Borussia Dortmund letting Götze go for as little as €12 million, as the British media are reporting. Inter and Juventus are prepared to offer at least that much for him too.

Götze really does look like one of Germany's brightest midfield talents for years - two-footed, relaxed on the ball, reads a game very well. But he's only 18, and I'd wait for him to play a full season at Bundesliga level and get some Champions League experience before assessing just how good he is. After all, he wouldn't be the first one-season wonder to emerge from Dortmund - anyone remember Lars Ricken?

They are a pain in the ass. It seems like the site won't load anything before the adverts, so if one of them gets stuck, you have to refresh. Not so bad at first, but when you're on here a lot, it gets annoying.

Secondly, they don't seem related to anything much.

Thirdly, I'm using adblocker, and though I haven't downloaded a profile yet, I'm working through blocking most of them (assuming it works) and that's getting to be a bit of a chore.

Thanks for feedback Soop. I'll get the loading of the ads looked at - perhaps we can change the priority so our content loads first. Should be possible.

In term of the products involved - we are with an agency who sells to all the major football sites. We tried to ensure that we were in line with the kind of ads you'd see elsewhere on other sites similar to ours. I'll take this up with El Fozzie who can talk to the agency.

6 days to Blackpool though, I just don't see why he would bother risking him where he came right back from injury last night and played out of skin, albeit that he was huffing and puffing by 60 minutes. Another week of training will take care of that of course, I just don't see a reason to risk him, start on bench, bring him on if you need him.

This is clearly a debate fused with bias though, me being VDV-less and you being an owner!

I hope he is rested. I dropped him for Barton and a poor net return of 1 point. I didn't think Barton was going to follow up a massive score with another but felt an assist at least was likely and of course he'd play in GW28. VDV's value dropped as I thought and it should only cost me 0.2 more than I sold him for to bring him back.

said it last night and ill say it again- van der vaart was in the milan box a good few times chasing down back passes and putting the keeper under pressure, he was very quick getting out of trouble with the ball. He'll be rested and physio'd for the next week now, and Harry will want him playing competitively v someone before milan. Plus he needs the points badly for the champs league spots. No brainer as far as im concerned, vdv gets up to seenty mins v blackpool

He should have got a ban for it, that kind of pissing around makes people less likely to click links to aid people.

I'm pretty sure whatever browser you use (I use IE at work and F/F at home and can do this certainly) whenever you hover over a link it tells you where it links to anyway so you can scout where it leads to before clicking, if that cautious.

For my part I have to be careful, since most websites are banned at my work. A lot of users link to sites other than FPL and if I click on those, a report gets sent to our IT team that I'm trying to access restricted sites!

      Gah, well FAO TheStock:

If you genuinely want a bit of feedback i think the article would benefit alot from going into what you think Arsenal should do to help that cause. Have a read of Dixon's blog, some good stuff in there.

"You would like to think that as good as Barcelona are, Arsenal will have the ball for a fair share of the game which means the opposition hasn't got it," he stated. "The more you restrict Messi, Iniesta and Xavi from having the ball, the better.

"If you know you are going to get it back then you can be a bit sloppy in some of your passing or you might try and knock a few risky balls. That is clearly not going to be the case here so it's very important Arsenal treat the ball like money."

My thoughts exactly. Oh, hang on...

Well yeah, but like i said he goes into a bit more detail about what they should be doing rather than just stating it as if by merely recognising it as something they need to do the game is already won.

I tried to say twice above but it wouldn't let me post it, I agree with the idea that you're saying, it's just presented in too vague a context imo hat it basically comes across as stating the obvious.

Anyway i was trying to be helpful, if you're going to be a dck then don't worry about it.

I think Theo will be the key, as you said Barca press high up the pitch so there will be a lot of space for him to run into. He's making better runs this season and is getting picked out more. Just depends if Barca have a game plan for him after last season (i doubt it, they'll just play their game)

I agree and I'd much prefer Walcott going up against Maxwell than Dani Alves who is the quicker of the two players. He could inflict some real damage.

Can't wait to see Wilshere against that midfield trio of Busquets Iniesta and Xavi. It's just going to be fascinating.

Not so sure on that tbh. I think relying on Walcott to break through is a bit like rolling over for a superior team. I like Theo Walcott but for me he is not a player who decides games often enough yet. I'm really hoping Arsenal can get a result tonight and avoid injuries so the return leg will be more exciting than last year.

      Nope.

I think England are 20 years behind modern standards with the idea of not making games available to the public with the motive that it will reduce the number of people who go to games. It's baffling that we who live outside of the UK have much better coverage of your own league than you guys do.

I think a European lawmaker has declared that banning internet streams of Premiership matches is illegal.

It's nothing to do with "streaming" anyway. All that's happened so far is one person has backed the Portsmouth pub owner as to showing Greek satellite television instead of sky. Internet streams etc certainly aren't involved.

Gargamel, can you watch every game in the Swedish if you want to as well? I'm pretty sure you can't watch all Spanish games in Spain, Italian in Italy (etc).

There are restrictions on viewing because if every game was on television then half as many (made up figure) would bother going to the games because they know every match can be watched from the comfort of the home for a fraction of the price - that's why we don't show football at 3pm for example to encourage attendance. You get to watch all games in Sweden (and wherever) because you're not exactly the game attending demographic.

Hi Andy! How nice with a reply from you.

I know Sweden is not important in this case, but yes, I pay 15 pounds a month for full coverage (except a couple of games that go missing when there are more than five or so at the same time) of the Premier League.

I just don't agree with the prediction. The league is immensely popular and there are long queues for season tickets etc, and that is with the incredibly high price you charge for tickets. I think the stadiums would still be full, and if they wouldn't, the clubs could lower the ticket prices to keep them full.

So many people in England can't afford to go to games now as it's so expensive, and not giving them the opportunity to watch them for a moderate fee at home is just old fashioned thinking to me.

Sorry I misunderstood your question. Yes we have full TV coverage of our own league (not free). I can't say anything on how it works in Spain and Italy as I simply don't know. My guess is that they have full coverage of their own leagues.

There's long queues for season tickets at about 6 clubs. At least the same number of Prem clubs have the opposite problem of frankly pathetic attendances, let alone further down the leagues. Showing Liverpool at 3pm on a Saturday would impact Wrexham's attendance (for example), no question.

Also, if the revenue from the Prem games did compensate clubs further down the leagues, then it would be a slightly different story (but not much). But we all know it would just go to John Terry/Yaya Toure/whoever, and would be disasterous for the majority of league clubs already teetering...half of all the clubs have been in administration at some point, and thus nearly liquidised.

Good points MNL and Andy. I didn't think of that and it's true it would affect the lower league teams.

I still think the idea of forcing people to watch lower quality football is old fashioned though, and that it's unfair to the people who can't afford to go and watch football.

Sooner or later the games will be available for everybody anyway, but if you want to keep it this way for some more time then so be it.

You also need to appreciate the knock-down effect.

Arsenal vs West Brom on television on Sky in England at 3pm or go and pay £20 to watch Rochdale vs Rotheram, short on time to beef that up... but yeah. It'd cripple English football as we know it, and we get to watch enough games as it is - you just get the luxury of living out of the country so get recompensed for it.

Just for a bit of useless info. The league of Ireland messed about with days and times of kick-offs as they felt that fans were not showing up due to the games being played at the same time as PL. Hasn't really worked though as teams are just falling left right and centre. Mu own beloved Cobh Ramblers went from winning L1 and getting promoted to now scraping by playing in a reserve league for the bigger clubs. Such a shame. The club has helped so many springboard onto better things. The FAI are to blame though they allowed some clubs to pay players more than some championship teams do.

Have to make do with English, Garg? I think the Swedish commentators are rubbish (except for Glenn Strömberg of course)! They don't know shite and can't tell one player from the other - I always opt for the Brittish blokes.

You've gotta be quite worried. If Chelsea win against Everton at the Weekend your going to have 7 players not playing next GW! Have you got one or two transfers for next week? Might need to take a couple of hits depending on Chelsea v Everton

Ok I made that sound a bit too bad tbh. If Chelsea do win you will have these players not playing:

Foster, Cole, Djourou, Walcott, Malouda, VdV, RVP

So your fine for keeper, you've got 3 defenders so thats ok. I think bringing in at least 2 mids maybe 3 might be worth it. Albrighton hasn't been playing much recently either so I think 3 would definitely be need. Would suggest bringing in Barton or Guttierez for Albrighton as similar price and then its kind of up to you who you feel you can sacrafice. Malouda & Chelsea aren't looking great anyway so maybe bringing in Cahill or A Young? Cahill maybe because of his double in GW29 might be a good option.
Only other place might be worth it is replacing Odemwingie depending on funds.

          Hope this helps!

      dannyj just seen this

wait until next week as we should have an idea when chelsea's double gameweeks will be, if they are in a few weeks replace malouda and/or cole, if they r shortly after then hold onto them

malouda to cahill seems the obvious transfer tho

    Team for GW28
    Al Habsi (Szchesny)
Rafael, Kelly, Coleman, Simpson (R. Jonson)
Nani, Adam, A, Younge (VDV, Fabregas)
    Tevez, Odemwungie (RVP)
    2 free transfers
As you can see, I am one player short for next GW. I am thinking to do Fabregas or VDV > Cahill and to save one transfer to next GW. Than, I can bring Saha, Nasri, sobebody in defence...... and make my squad stronger.
But, have I strong team for GW 28? I am afraid to get only 30 points or something close......
    Please advise
    Thanks

I think he will against Wigan, if Everton put Chelsea out and United have a double I doubt he'll play that game, SAF more likely to go with O'Shea's experience & height advantage.

Well I think he has proved himself this season. Nice too as he was relatively unknown when he signed, (well at least I didn't know much about him). I was excited about his potential in the early games, likening him to Essien and I'm pleased to see I wasn't completely over the top in my early praise.
Keeping him is going to be the problem though, a good few of the big sides could certainly do with Mr T. Hopefully he won't get on no plane fool.

Any Djorou owners out there? I’m considering selling him for the missing game in week 28. And instead of buying him back buying Szczney instead and playing the Arsenal keeper for the rest of the season.

My plan is to play Foster in 29 and sell him for Szczney for week 30 or 31 onwards.

With save points I think Foster will get more points but Szczney will free up some cash and I think will be more assured of starts than Djorou. Any thoughts, sound sensible?

Obviously you never know what Wenger is thinking and when Vermaelen comes back he may well go back to Vermaelen and Koscielny but I think from speaking to Arsenal fans they feel Djourou has been their best defender so I would hold until the Vermaelen factor is back and fully fit.

I wouldn't be so worried about Liverpool with a mixture of fixtures coming up. Villa may well be worth some investing. You have got a lot of Blackpool so maybe Evatt > Walker and I would say just on fixtures Rooney > Tevez and possibly bring in someone for DJ Campbell depending on funds. Rest of your team looks fine tbh. You could gain some funds by downgrading Foster? Foster & Hart are an expensive pairing!

Wait we couldn't know how Carroll will settle in the new team. And GW 29 is Arsenal/Tot double GW. Better option out there IMO.

Anyone have any news on the Stoke keeper situation? I believe Pulis has been making negative comments about Begovic's performances. I have foster and stockdale and plan was to do Stockdale>Begovic this week. Need a cheap 2nd keeper!

No news. I have Begovic though and will be keeping an eye on this. It will be interesting to see who plays on Saturday. If Sorensen starts and has a good game (I'd expect Brighton to trouble Stoke) I'd be worried about him starting in the PL as well.

Think Begovic's place is pretty secure. Sorenson is playing in their FA cup match but I read somewhere that Pulis is still happy to stick with Begovic for the PL.

      I like Gattuso's initial response:

"I lost control. There is no excuse for what I did. I take my responsibilities for that," the Milan captain, 33, said.

"I was nervous. We were both speaking Scottish, something that I learned when I played in his home city of Glasgow, but I can't tell you what we said."

Dinnae f*ck wit me, ya doss c*nt!

Actually that would be a really bad choice, you can walk perfectly well with only your little toe and your big toe, all the rest are superfluous. However removing the big or little toe completely affects your balance and gait.

but my little toe is TINY

                  it's barely a toe

whereas my other toes are quite large

eating my little toe would be akin to swallowing a pill
