David Moyes has this afternoon been officially confirmed as the new manager of Manchester United. The news follows on from Everton’s statement earlier, which revealed the Scot was to leave Goodison this summer after holding talks with chairman Bill Kenwright and expressing his desire to move to Old Trafford:

Moyes has signed a six-year deal with the league champions and will take charge from July 1. Sir Alex Ferguson has already spoken out regarding the move, heaping praise on his successor on the club’s official website:

“When we discussed the candidates that we felt had the right attributes we unanimously agreed on David Moyes. David is a man of great integrity with a strong work ethic. I’ve admired his work for a long time and approached him as far back as 1998 to discuss the position of Assistant Manager here. He was a young man then at the start of his career and has since gone on to do a magnificent job at Everton. There is no question he has all the qualities we expect of a manager at this Club.”

Moyes will remain in charge of the Toffees for the final two Gameweeks of the season, which pits the Toffees against West Ham and Chelsea. Sunday’s Goodison clash with the Hammers will afford him a final home game in charge of the Merseyside club and with Sir Alex Ferguson also entertaining Swansea in his final match in front of the United fans, Fantasy faith in both clubs is likely to pick up ahead of Saturday’s deadline.

We’ve already assessed the potential impact on Moyes’ arrival yesterday, though while the Fantasy landscape will undoubtedly change upon his installation at Old Trafford, the effect on Everton’s fortunes will be equally intriguing. The security of starts offered by Moyes’ regulars over the years, allied with the customary strong finish to the season and solid home form which has harvested a single defeat at Goodison this term could all come into question depending on the Scot’s Merseyside successor.

Already, Michael Laudrup and Roberto Martinez are the front runners for the Toffees job, with Neil Lennon also getting a mention as the managerial merry-go-round gets underway a little earlier than usual.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

I’m disappointed with Moyes for choosing not to manage in the best league in the world, the Bundesliga. Everyone knows he already had the greatest players in the world at Everton and it was easy for him to win the title every year in such a crappy two horse league playing his tiki taka which Walter Smith actually invented. Why didn’t he take on a real challenge so we can find out whether he is really a great manager or he owes all his success to Tony Hibbert and Victor Anichebe

How is this team for the weekend? No hit..

    Hart
    Verthongen Luiz Zabaleta (Martin, Demel)
    Lampard Mata Bale Walcott(c) Coutinho
    Tevez Kone (Defoe)

Defoe -> Sturridge/Hernandez worth a hit? (would mean benching Kone..)

Stats can be used to build an argument that suits.

They are a top 6 side because of Moyes not despite him. Operating on a budget that the teams around them dwarf.

Who was Jurgen Klopp 3 or 4 years ago? Relegated with Mainz, 13th with Dortmund and he eventually build a strong team promoting the youth and is now in the CL final. You don't just magically become a great manager. You work on it and build gradually over time.

Away results for Everton doesn't not equate to him not having the potential for him to be a successful manager at United.

Fergie was 6 years without a trophy and 1 result away from the sack.

I think it's a pretty shocking stat. People will point to the fact that it's while he was at Everton, but heck, even QPR won at the Bridge. Plenty of 'lesser' teams have won at the Top 4 over the years and it's a shocking fact he has not won once.

It's hard to do a bad job at United. With their resources, players willing to join, fan support and even the players motivate themselves to do well.
Sure, Moyes probably isn't in the top 5 in the PL but the ones who are in the top 5 would probably have been controversial appointments. Moyes was a decent choice. I still expect United to finish in the top 2 next season.

Which top clubs do you speak of? Chelsea, where the pressure often cracks managers? Arsenal, where spending money is a taboo? Or top club as in Liverpool (joke)
The only exception I can see is Man City, but they aren't nearly as established as United.

The pressure at United could crack managers surely? Why do the players at united motivate themselves whereas at other clubs they don't? Man city being an example that springs to mind. All the stuff you mentioned apart from that are also the case at all top clubs. (Resources, players willing to join and fan support.)

My main objection to Moyes was that he seemed to play a lot of negative football, but that was out of necessity and the football they've played in the last one and a half seasons at Everton has persuaded me he can play it if he is allowed to build a squad.

Still unsure about whether doing well on no money will extrapolate to doing much better with lots of money.

Yep frankly maturing that squad alone could well be enough to win the PL next year. Signing Baines, Fellaini if possible or De Rossi would be enough.
