David Moyes has this afternoon been officially confirmed as the new manager of Manchester United. The news follows on from Everton’s statement earlier, which revealed the Scot was to leave Goodison this summer after holding talks with chairman Bill Kenwright and expressing his desire to move to Old Trafford:

Moyes has signed a six-year deal with the league champions and will take charge from July 1. Sir Alex Ferguson has already spoken out regarding the move, heaping praise on his successor on the club’s official website:

“When we discussed the candidates that we felt had the right attributes we unanimously agreed on David Moyes. David is a man of great integrity with a strong work ethic. I’ve admired his work for a long time and approached him as far back as 1998 to discuss the position of Assistant Manager here. He was a young man then at the start of his career and has since gone on to do a magnificent job at Everton. There is no question he has all the qualities we expect of a manager at this Club.”

Moyes will remain in charge of the Toffees for the final two Gameweeks of the season, which pits the Toffees against West Ham and Chelsea. Sunday’s Goodison clash with the Hammers will afford him a final home game in charge of the Merseyside club and with Sir Alex Ferguson also entertaining Swansea in his final match in front of the United fans, Fantasy faith in both clubs is likely to pick up ahead of Saturday’s deadline.

We’ve already assessed the potential impact on Moyes’ arrival yesterday, though while the Fantasy landscape will undoubtedly change upon his installation at Old Trafford, the effect on Everton’s fortunes will be equally intriguing. The security of starts offered by Moyes’ regulars over the years, allied with the customary strong finish to the season and solid home form which has harvested a single defeat at Goodison this term could all come into question depending on the Scot’s Merseyside successor.

Already, Michael Laudrup and Roberto Martinez are the front runners for the Toffees job, with Neil Lennon also getting a mention as the managerial merry-go-round gets underway a little earlier than usual.

got michu in gw2...but i doubt he would have enough funds for wally/caz

benteke/lukaku >> rvp would require between 6.5/7m. and since he could sell michu for around 7.5..wouldnt have funds for such an upgrade...

Enough of this Moyes stuff, it's so 5 minutes ago. Plus he looks like he's been squeezed at the neck..

Back to my squad dilemma for this week:

    DDG (Andersen)
    Mertesacker Baines Zabaleta Vertonghen
    Bale(vc) Walcott(c) Mata
    Sturridge Aguero Tevez

    Subs: Michu Maloney Pearce

Potientally 3/4 players rotation risks (DDG Zab Aguero Tevez). Bench only has 1 active player.

Worth a -4 hit for replace Michu with Coutinho/Fellaini?

Michu has to go anyway so you might as well take the plunge - Coutinho is the tidier option in my book as he has two good fixtures to come to Fellaini's one. Coutniho will grab an assist or two and maybe even bag a goal.

I mean, the eggs/basket metaphor works well on defenders, where all the eggs go splat as a goal is conceived, but it doesn't work that way for attacking players, who rely on their own, and to a lesser extent their team's, ability to score

If both teams score only one goal then having HBA and Mata in theory gives you a higher chance of the big points. Conversly it also gives you a higher chance of nil points.

You can't blame him for the competition in the SPL this season. That's out of our hands. Taking Celtic to the CL knockouts is a great achievement and he has built a very good squad in his time in charge. He is a good manager.

United have pissed on everyone this season. Look at the points on the board.

It's a no contest in La Liga outwith Barca and Real

Bayern have walked the Bundesliga this season. PSG the same with Ligue 1

3 in a row for Ajax.

Every league has dominant sides but you can't use that against the manager in charge.

That is indicative of 2 good Spurs performances this season not the season as a whole. Spurs also threw away countless points to smaller teams when United never so that highlights Spurs frailties more than the United results show their ability.

More that they pissed on the league and all competitors were rendered inferior in terms of a title challenge.

Sorry Gink but I think you don't watch Celtic very much and maybe only saw us playing in some tight CL games.

We play attacking football with full backs Matthews and Izaguirre getting forward and the likes of Wanyama, Ledley, Commons, Forrest, Samara and Hooper getting forward. Not a negative team at all.

Well O'Neil spent fortunes at Cetic and never made last 16 once or won an away game.
Lennon made last 16 on a nothing budget and won in moscow
Tactically, he also beat barca and was seconds from a draw in the nou camp.
and he put europa leaguw finalists benfica out.

spl doesnt test him but in spl he has done nothing wrong and in europe has done pretty well.

But he's won a few titles (albeit in an easy league).

Why? Lennon exposed Barca and opened the door for Milan, PSG and Bayern to all have a go and eventually beat them.
      🙂

Seriously though. Why not? No worse than the others in my view.
Last 16 on a nothing budget. Beat Benfica to that remember.

The real reason behind the Moyes deal revealed...

Ferguson had fallen out with Demel earlier on in the season after Demel had claimed SAF deliberately man marked him throughout their game at Old Trafford. Words were had.

Since then the board felt that retaining SAF would scupper any hopes of signing Demel...hence the need for a new manager.

The Demel deal is now back on people!

I've ended up in a similar situation so I'm considering Rosicky instead of Coutinho to balance it a little. Conversely, you could look at it as having a monster of a team to romp home to victory in GW 38 with virtually all homers.

Enrique definitely - two good games to Bassong's one. More involved and in a more advanced position in a team that's far more likely to hammer in goals than Norwich. Liverpool have Ful and QPR, I think. Goal City for the 'pool there.
