David Moyes has this afternoon been officially confirmed as the new manager of Manchester United. The news follows on from Everton’s statement earlier, which revealed the Scot was to leave Goodison this summer after holding talks with chairman Bill Kenwright and expressing his desire to move to Old Trafford:

Moyes has signed a six-year deal with the league champions and will take charge from July 1. Sir Alex Ferguson has already spoken out regarding the move, heaping praise on his successor on the club’s official website:

“When we discussed the candidates that we felt had the right attributes we unanimously agreed on David Moyes. David is a man of great integrity with a strong work ethic. I’ve admired his work for a long time and approached him as far back as 1998 to discuss the position of Assistant Manager here. He was a young man then at the start of his career and has since gone on to do a magnificent job at Everton. There is no question he has all the qualities we expect of a manager at this Club.”

Moyes will remain in charge of the Toffees for the final two Gameweeks of the season, which pits the Toffees against West Ham and Chelsea. Sunday’s Goodison clash with the Hammers will afford him a final home game in charge of the Merseyside club and with Sir Alex Ferguson also entertaining Swansea in his final match in front of the United fans, Fantasy faith in both clubs is likely to pick up ahead of Saturday’s deadline.

We’ve already assessed the potential impact on Moyes’ arrival yesterday, though while the Fantasy landscape will undoubtedly change upon his installation at Old Trafford, the effect on Everton’s fortunes will be equally intriguing. The security of starts offered by Moyes’ regulars over the years, allied with the customary strong finish to the season and solid home form which has harvested a single defeat at Goodison this term could all come into question depending on the Scot’s Merseyside successor.

Already, Michael Laudrup and Roberto Martinez are the front runners for the Toffees job, with Neil Lennon also getting a mention as the managerial merry-go-round gets underway a little earlier than usual.

Right here is my defence ATM:

Dawson - Kompany - Baines (Wilson Fig)

All 3 can play for me in the last 2 gameweeks but Kompany may not play both matches but Wilson is on the bench for cover. however Jones looks an enticing option.

    a) Kompany > Jones (no benching dilemma)
    b) Fig > Jones (benching hell)
    c) Leave

    Cheers

        World-class players? How many?

Maximum of 2 - RVP and Carrick (arguable).
Rooney used to be world-class, no where close to one now. Probably on his way out too.

Fergie did a phenomenal job with this squad.

Cole on the way out for how many seasons now? I'm losing count.

Cech out Courtois in. Tho Cech has another 2 years in him.

Maybe Luiz was blinded due to his recent performances, but Oscar's sheer class.

I reckon United will finish poorly next season with Chelsea, City and Arsenal fighting to win it.

Nobody's expecting Moyes to be world class in his first season. Maybe not even his second season either. Its a new era and it takes time to get up and running. Think Arsenal will be very hungry to win next season if they can spend over the summer. Now's the chance.

people are going to run with this idea for a long time, I reckon man utd will be very good in the league, Moyes knows how to get consistency. What's more up in the air is how he will manage to keep them competing in the cups and Europe, something he will not have had as much experience with.

Ferguson will still be involved at the club in the future and I think Moyes will seek his opinions on matters, so I don't think it will be such a rapid decline. Though if things don't work out, I hope the board stick with him so he can build the squad he wants over a few years.

      Doubtful of Arsenal.

Can't predict how Moyes will settle in.

If he settles then it'll be United/City/Chelsea fighting for it.

      If not then City/Chelsea.

From an everton fan here are my views on possible managers:

Martinez - Personally don't like this, isn't doing very well at Wigan (who have little funds) so won't do well at Everton (who have little funds), he just doesn't fit.

Laudrup - Yea he sounds a good prospect but can't see him leaving a team who have a place in Europe to one who

G Neville - lacks experience but would be PERFECT for the club!

Neil Lennon - could do well, fairly here and there

Poyet/Zola - maybe a little in the deep end but are both managers who have high potential and can cope with the budget.

Alan Pardew - This could really work, especially if Newcastle go down.

    So there you go...

BUT NOBODY CAN REPLACE DAVID MOYES!

Pipe and slippers time for MO'N unfotunately. Bit of a leap from Sky pundit to Champion's League contending football manager overnight for G Neville; also from SPL to EPL for Lennon. Laudrup needs another few PL seasons under his belt with the Swans.

Yes, I agree with you on all of these. Laudrup wont come because Swans have Europe, Lennon is unknown really here. Neville would be a gamble but I really think it would pay off! He has experience from England as well!

true, personally I'm with you on Martinez...I'm not convinced he has what it takes. And his style is very individual, it could take years before Everton start playing his way...and that might be to the detriment of the team.

Everyone loves Martinez and he's a nice guy but is he the man for this job? I don't know.

Personally I think getting Laudrup would be a huge coup.

Totally hypothetical but anyone reckon that if Fergie got the boot from United - say if Palace won the replay in 1990 - that Fergie could have been just another journeyman manager? Or would he have carved out the same success at another club.

    Criteria to replace Fergie

    1) is he Scottish?
    2) Does he hate Liverpool?
    3) can he beat City
    4) Can he develop players?
    5) Can he be a huge FPL troll?
