Cesc Fabregas has been ruled out of Sunday’s Carling Cup Final with the hamstring injury sustained in last night’s 1-0 win over Stoke. Arsene Wenger has this evening revealed that the injury, although not a major setback, will keep his skipper out of the Wembley clash with Birmingham.

“It is a very small injury but certainly Cesc will be out for Sunday….For how long [beyond that] I don’t know but definitely for Sunday…He is disappointed. We all feel sorry and sad for him. The only way we help him now is to win the Carling Cup as he contributed a lot in this competition.”

The absence of Fabregas for Sunday’s game is not a concern for Fantasy Managers but, the chances of the Spaniard appearing for Gameweek’s 29 Emirates clash with Sunderland certainly are. A return for that one looks fairly remote to say the least given that Arsenal will surely be doing all they can to get Fabregas fit for the Champions League clash with Barcelona three days later. When asked on his skippers’ chances of making the European tie, Wenger was non-committal..

“It is very difficult to give a deadline…It is impossible.”

Elsewhere, Wenger also offered us an update on Theo Walcott’s condition – he looks likely to be out for at least a couple of weeks with the ankle sprain suffered in last night’s game.

“He has a classic ankle sprain. We don’t think there is any more damage to it. But it is still a sprain. We are sad for him too. He is out for Sunday and maybe one or two more weeks more.”

Wenger did have better news on Robin Van Persie, Laurent Koscielny and Abou Diaby however. All three are fit and in contention for Sunday’s final.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I doubt anyone will reply to this as they are obscure players, but anyone know anything on Wilkinson (Stoke) and Pantsil (Fulham). Pantsil lost his spot to Salcido and they kept a cleany vs Chelsea and he played quite well so I'm assuming he'll keep his spot. Unsure whether Wilson will play over Wilkinson again after he played both in the double gameweek. Wondering which to shift? Probably Pantsil...

Shared this earlier, but there are better advice givers later at night:

I can get Cahill for Fabregas for free, and in doing so, field 11. This also allows me to get rid of Nolan for Young/Silva/VDV the week after, and even THAT transfer still leaves me the cash to do Odem to Rooney, considering how friggin horrible Odem’s fixtures are.

But then I got to thinking maybe I should take a 4 point hit to get Rooney in for Odem THIS week. I have grown to hate taking hits, but its for two guys who have doubles either this week or next, and helps me get ahead in getting rid of Odem and STILL having enough money to trade out Nolan for Young/Silva/VDV. People say Rooney’s fixtures aren’t good, but hes got a double this week, and after one tough week at Liverpool, its five really nice looking games.

    So…is the hit worth it?

Sometimes 4 point hits if they further your long term plans are worth it.

That said though, I've only taken 3 4 pointers all season.

Definately something I learned early in the year. I'll be much better about hits next year, but I feel this is a good one, tactically.

Also, Camzy, can't thank you enough for talking me into WCing in 24. Such a great strategy, and I've jumped into the top 3k as a result. Thanks a lot.

Worth the hit now if you want to bring Rooney in,
Not going with Rooney myself as got feeling he could be rested for the Wigan game , after Marseille midweek and Chelsea up next week which is massive game for utd.

Can fergie afford to rest anyone offensive with all the injuries to forwards lately? I guess Cheech is a possibility, but as bad as Rooney has been, he's one of the last creative players Sir Alex has left.

A lot of ppl will be taking hits this week you can either join them or consolidate if you can field 11.

personally i'm considering odem>decko/bent for a hit but with fixtures in mind

    Evening all
Im in the unusual position of still not knowing what to do with my team. This pretty much is where im at
No hit, VDS in Stockdale and hope to get 10 out if everyone plays

    or

    12 pointer
Stockdale, Kelly, Fabregas, Odemwingie > Begovic, Kolarov, A Young, Berbatov

Which one would anyone rather if any?

take no hit and essentially start the GW 12 points ahead of most. The guys you are putting in, considering their fixtures, are just a bunch of maybes. There is nobody like Tevez in them four.

Is VDS worth getting in DB? Don't press the panic button on Kelly yet.

That 12 pointer has got an awful lot of familarity (and to some degree justification) - Begovic (or Harper); Young and Kolarov/Huth could be my 8 point hit this week. Etherington being out could mean 10 only playing for me.

Why don't you just do Stockdale > Begovic and Fabs > Young?

        Hey

The thinking behind VDS is at 6.3mil i can get the cheapest starter in United defence and fill an obvious non playing whole in my team .

He rotates well with Foster and means i can lose Vidic, get Baines and still cover United defensively. Its 50 50 in my head all day what to do.

Dont know whether to lose my Arsenal players or gamble. Then if i stay a week more with Fabs in worse case i can downgrade to Nasri /Arshavin next week.

Young is very unpredictable and if i went for him id like to fix the rest of my team also with the money. Dont know if that is best way to go about things though.

I had VDS a few weeks ago DB, and I wouldn't reccomend getting him.

I had him for a short time, and I hate fielding an away keeper but with VDS I felt I had to, which annoyed me. However if youre getting Foster, and as you say the rotate well then dropping him be justified. But that's about 12million in goals, which is quite a lot imo.

Also, I don't see United keeping a CS this GW in either game.

2 goals and 2 assists for Young in his last 10 games ain't great - I'm getting desperate. Downing may well be worth a punt.

I can see Villa getting at least 2 goals v Blackburn.

I can see your masterplan with VDS - seems sensible enough but United's next 3 fixtures are all away. I think you can ride the storm then they have Bolton at home...

Ya i think Villa will score too but its hard to pick a definite player who will get somthing.
            Re VDS
Ive changed my mind again now though! Just drew up an 8 point hit to get Arteta, Berbatov & Begovic losing Stockdale, Fabregas & Odemwingie. It makes sense on paper which is the worst thing
            Begovic in Stocdale, free
Arteta will have 3 games and Fabs maybe only one to get 60min 90% chance of 4 points back
Berbatov for Odemwingie , 2 games 90% chance of 4 points back

Means i can keep Vidic/Evra if i need dosh for the season. Then get Walcott, VDV and still keep Tevez until Sunderland home is gone.

I actually like it. Just say you didnt like the VDS idea now and il be on to a winner 🙂

What you think? You really going to go for downing?

What do I agree with you on DB?

              - Disregarding the VDS transfer in.
              - Stockdale > Begovic.
              - Getting rid of Fabs
              - Odem > Berbs (worth a punt with two games).

Don't agree with:....Arteta. When is his season going to ignite? You are better off risking Cahill imho - I don't see Everton v Sunderland being any more than 1-1; but the dgw has to be considered.

Downing is a long-shot - I'm unconvinced. Young was my first instinct so I may go back there. I'm looking at:

              Stockdale > Begovic or Harper.
              Hutton > Huth or Kolarov.
              Adam > Young or Cahill.

Berbatov doesn't have great fixtures, I'm looking at selling him.

Also, he might not start against Chelsea, given we may play 4-3-3 and the slim chance that Hernandez could play ahead of him, after his performance against them in the CS, although that seems unlikely.

I like Rooney against a Wigan defense that is absolutely lost without Alcaraz, regardless of lineup. Besides, Fergie may not be able to afford a game like Marseille with Arsenal closing in behind, even with a game in hand. Chelsea's defense has been good, but when's the last time they played against an offense showing any kind of form?

      Worth the risk, for me.

I can't afford Adam > Cahill transfer. If I wanted Cahill it would have to be Fabregas > Cahill, but i'm keen on keeping hold of Fabs for the future. Although with Adam, I can afford to bring in either Y.Toure, Silva or A.Young with my freebie.

Im gonna chance it! fook it sure, even if he doesn't play he should be fit for the double and good fixtures afterwards. He has a good record against sunderland aswell (5 in 9) so i reckon he's worth the risk

make sure you really check the hits are worth it. i almost just confirmed suarez in for rvp knowing i'd be buying rvp back in gw29. just before i pressed it i realised suarez would need 8 just for me to break even. so basically don't almost be an idiot like me

Yeah, short term transfers for hits unless your going to captain the player are never worth it really. I'm making sure that all my transfers are all long term from now on.

Getting Brunt & Odemwingie before the double has turned out as a joke.. Did rubbish and now pretty much going to cost me 8 points to get rid of them!

Will be getting Rooney and keeping him until GW32 anyway so it's all gravy! 😀

Really don't know if I'm honest..

Just followed the crowd on here, and over the last 4 weeks Brunt has actually made the most key passes in the league without a single assist, which is madness.

Didn't really know where Dorrans was going to play with the new manager either and blah, blah. Shocking!

his away performances put me off this week despite the double. it's only against your defence that he's managed a goal or an assist since september. ideally i'd have him, just not for the 8 points it will cost to boomerang rvp out and back in

Only 6 players likely to start this GW, 28 pts ahead in my main league & 15 pts ahead in MOTM for Feb… Do i take a big hit or not?

Current team with Outs/Doubts in CAPS...

    -----------------FOSTER / STOCKDALE

    DJOUROU / PANTSIL / R JOHNSON / Bardsley / Huth

    -----------VDV / FABS / ADAM / Nani / Zog

    -------------Campbell / RVP / Tevez

Thinking of taking a 16 point hit & will still have 1.3 in the bank

    Stockdale ---> VDS
    Djourou ----> Coleman

    Quick and easy question:

    1) Adam => Barton
    OR
    2) Walcott => Barton?

If Walcott, then would need to do the move this evening before he drops in price. Would prefer to keep Theo, but the fact that he "is out for Sunday and maybe one or two more weeks" concerns me.

My 2 free transfers are done. Hopefully, no points hit a small advantage this week, after my casual 112 pts in GW27(!)

RVP OUT Tevez IN (had to be done, Tevez surely the only "must have" this week)
    Fabs OUT Cahill IN

    Hopefully 11 playing now...
    VDS (Foster)
    Coleman/ Walker/ Kelly/ Simpson (Djourou)
    Nani/ Cahill/ Brunt (Adam/VDV)
    Rooney (c)/ Tevez/ DJ
