The Knee Jerk

Thanks to the Carling Cup Final and Charlie Adam’s dodgy temperament (amongst other factors), this week was shaping up to be a painful one for many a Fantasy Manager unless a few brave decisions were made, particularly in the midfield area. With popular options such as Cesc Fabregas, Samir Nasri, Theo Walcott, Rafael Van der Vaart, and Adam all missing out, fortune -and plenty luck- favoured the brave souls who plumped for Aston Villa and Wolves midfielders in particular.

Villa annihilated Blackburn 4-1, with six saves from Paul Robinson preventing the scoreline from further embarrassing Steve Kean’s side, as Ashley Young and Stewart Downing racked up the points for their Fantasy Premier League (FPL) Owners. Young bagged two goals and an assist, whilst Downing helped himself to a goal and an assist and the pair picked up three and two Bonus Points respectively, making their hauls 18 and 12 for the gameweek. With a great run of games ahead, there will no doubt be plenty investment in the pair over the next few weeks.

Over at Wolves, Mick McCarthy’s side recorded their best-ever Premier League win to jump out of the relegation zone. Jamie O’Hara and Matt Jarvis each scored a goal as Blackpool, without Charlie Adam, self-imploded, mainly thanks to DJ Campbell’s pointless red card which now deprives Ian Holloway of his star striker for the next three games.

O’Hara has now scored in his last two games and although he will miss the next league match with parent club Spurs, is proving to be essential in the club’s relegation battle. He picked up 2 Bonus Points, taking this week’s tally to 10. Adding this to his 3 last week, and the loanee is looking like a real alternative to Charlie Adam. Jarvis’ goal and a Wolves clean sheet saw him pick up 8 points, and, coming off a 2 Bonus Point performance last week, also looks key to his club’s survival chances.

With four games to go before we can draw a line under what has been a thoroughly frustrating gameweek, these four players currently sit at the top of the midfield scorers for gameweek 28, and any team with a combination of Young plus one, or even two, can expect a nice little boost up the rankings tonight. Depending on that number of points hits, of course.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Pleased with my score this week. Picked Young last night instead of knee-jerking Cahill in. Got Barton instead of Nolan which is annoying.
Has Rafael lost his place? Bit annoying to take a hit yet still only have 8 playing (assuming everyone else plays tomorrow)

Its hard to distinguish this place sometimes from Red cafe.

Its ok to question things in a United match or any other teams if they are obviously wrong. Its what football is about.Better than "avoid avoid " "your team does it too nonsense "that makes it ok"

And sh*t the bed is as bad creating nonsense claiming United are controlling refs

I just wait for the " plastic fan " jibes now.....etc

Nothing controversial. I've been reading the site on and off this evening, and barely a page has gone by where you haven't raised the elbow incident or had a pop about players of other teams in an attempt to rile their fans.

Thing is I don't think anyone is disagreeing with you!

Not really. Any football fan, irrespective of the team he supports, knows what they saw watching that on MOTD tonight.

The ref did not see the incident, as pointed put by the replays on MOTD. He was looking at the ball and it was an off the ball incident.

No one can actually take any delight in an act like that gong unpunished.

Seeing O'Hara score brings back memories of the good old days as a bonus point magnet for Pompey. He's not doing too bad for Wolves either.

I'm rather good at doing that sort of thing, as Messrs Walcott and Barton can tell you.

think he got 1 10 pointer, the rest were 4s, 5s and sixes, but all very welcome for 4.5mil

He did alright at the price (£4.5m or thereabouts) - more 5 pointers than double figures, but he used to get the Charlie Adam/Barry Ferguson obligatory 3 bonus points more often than not.

Adam contributes absolutely nothing defensively. They would've probably conceded about six if he was playing.

The FA normally charges them on Tuesdays and they usually have until Thursday to plead guilty

You just know they wont. And if he is charged cant he appeal and therefore extend time to a hearing and play Chelsea game?

Beside he wont be. Then they try to promote respect the refs and respect the FA and fair play.

      Completely Hypocritical.

the whole issue seems to be it was a big spinning pitch in the warm up games but it's rained a lot since possibly making it much more seamer friendly

it has always been a very high scoring ground. i'd expect nothing below 300 BUT it has been raining there for the past few days so i dont know if that changes anything. it usually rains june to september, i dont know how these non-seasonal rains are going to affect the game. but if the pitch is damp and you fancy getting a bowler in your team, then i'd like to remind you that damp pitches favour fast bowlers. dont see much for spinners personally, be it damp or not damp.

Fair play to the ref too, the reason most people fall over when pushed is that the ref won't do anything otherwise.
