Fulham have been one of the busiest clubs this summer, with three new members of the first-team squad already acquired. Having bolstered his backline with the arrival Fernando Amorebieta and Maarten Stekelenburg, Martin Jol has also increased his options in central midfield by snapping up Derek Boateng from Ukrainian outfit Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk.

The tough-tackling 30-year-old makes his way to Craven Cottage on a one-year contract with the option of a further year and will brings plenty of top-level experience to the Fulham midfield. A long-term target of Jol’s, Boateng spoke of his delight at clinching the deal late last month:

“I’m very happy that I have signed and I want to thank the Chairman, the Manager and the Board at Fulham Football Club. I’ve been working hard to come here and I’ll do my best for the Club. It’s been a long road for me but now I’m here I’m so happy and I can’t wait to start and give everything I have.”

The History

The Ghana international has plenty of experience across a number of leagues in Europe. Starting his career as a 16-year-old with Greek side Kalamata FC, Boateng scored nine times in 27 appearances and was subsequently picked up Panathinaikos in 2001. There, he notched three times in 24 league games but was farmed out on loan to OFI Crete the following year, scoring once in 12 matches.

Boateng was then transferred to Swedish side AIK in 2003, scoring five goals over three seasons, before continuing on his travels yet again – this time moving to Beitar Jerusalem in Israel. There, he lasted another couple of years, helping his side win the league for the first time in 10 seasons and scoring eight times in 72 appearances, before moving to Germany with FC Cologne.

Having failed to nail down a starting berth, the nomadic Boateng then switched to Spain to star for Getafe for two seasons – he grabbed two goals and a pair of assists over 72 league games, though his penchant for incurring the referee’s wrath is reflected in 20 yellow cards over his time in La Liga. Picked up by Dnipro 2011, he scored twice in 23 league games before Jol came calling last month. Boateng has also featured 46 times for his national side and found the net once.

The Prospects

Given the number of midfield departures already this summer, Boateng looks likely to be a first-team regular for Fulham next time round. Jol has so far released Chris Baird, Giorgos Karagounis, Simon Davies and Mahamadou Diarra, while loan signing Emmanuel Frimpong and Urby Emanuelson have returned to their parent clubs. Given that Steve Sidwell hardly covered himself in glory with back to back suspensions which forced him out of seven of the last eight league matches in 2012/13, a central midfield overhaul looks on the cards.

In all likelihood, Boateng’s more defensive-midfield role and previous scoring record won’t be winning many suitors in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game, despite the fact he’s expected to come in around the 5.0 mark. As Jol looks for a more creative presence alongside the Ghanaian, Sidwell’s starting berth looks under threat and while Bryan Ruiz was occasionally moved to a more withdrawn role last term, Jol is likely to return to the market again and allow the Costa Rican to continue behind Dimitar Berbatov in a 4-4-1-1.

Depending on price, Boateng could, however, prove a decent value shout in the Sky Sports game. The bonus aspect, which rewards passing and tackling, could bolster his appeal, with the Ghanaian tasked with sitting in front of the back-four as Jol looks for a little more resilience in the centre of the park. Plenty of starts looks assured, then, but from an FPL perspective, he’d need to surpass his previous exploits to force himself onto our Fantasy radars.

    Lost on last page:

what will be the future of ivanovic under mourinho?do you guys think he will revert him back to rb?if so then ivanovic surely will be in my team.if ivanovic gets the right back position back he will be a great FPL asset.

    when at rb ivanovic has:
    1) great assist and goal threat with his crosses and runs, down the right flank.
    2) though being a rb he still goes up for corners and being a good header of the ball he is a goal threat.
3)stats says that chelsea keep more clean sheets when he is at rb rather than cb.
[we know that he was better at rb 12-13 season. So, here is a stat from 08-09 season to 11-12 season:

    Overall record at CB:
    Games: 66
    Mins played: 5456
    Goals conceded: 63
    Clean sheets: 23

    Overall record at RB:
    Games: 87
    Mins played: 6730
    Goals conceded: 61
    Clean sheets: 33]

and also considering the dgw he again can be a start-of-the-season hero!!!

btw for the ones who want a comparison of the stats of azpi and ivanovic:
    Azpi since 2007: 194 games, 2goals, 10 assists
    Ivanovic since 2008: 141 games, 13goals, 11assists

I think the key player in this mess is Luiz. If Mourinho plays him in midfield i'd expect Ivanovic and Cahill/Terry to play at the back, with Azpilicueta on the right. However if Mourinho plays Luiz at the back, i'd expect to see Ivanovic right-back.

I think a couple so far have been interesting reads, the problem is, no matter how much anyone tries atm, we've not actually got a great deal to talk about Fantasy wise. The stats are all relevant and might be useful soon enough, but atm it's a bit early to really get into it. I don't blame anyone for trying. Personally, the football (although not fantasy) chat is what is bringing me back each day atm.

Pizza is rich in fat, calories, and sodium - all of which contribute to the development of a big butt. Pizzas with extra cheese, cured meats, and lots of sauce can especially contribute to a larger butt.

    Fernando Torres

    Price tag: £50m

League goals in the two sample seasons: 15 (plus the remainder of the season he signed during)

    Price per goal: £3,333,333

    Van Persie

    Price tag: £24m

League goals in the two sample seasons: 56

    Value per league goal: £428,571

I know his first season was with Arsenal but it really shows how badly it can go right and wrong in the transfer window. Something to consider for the new season aswell.

I thought the injuries hit before the transfer. I remember he was injured before the 2010 world cup and was never the same expect for that one game vs Chelsea when he scored a brace and Chelsea spent £50m regardless.

I'm not sure about Torres, I think his overall contribution to the team can be overlooked sometimes. I think if they played a different system Torres would still score many goals. Chelsea have performed well at times and I think his experience has contributed to that, winning trophies with Spain makes him a stronger player

Would be great if we could display live market value prices for each player on the bidding list, but unfortunately it would probably be nastily complicated and involve lots of connections.

25 token bids on each of Casillas, Neuer and Cech.
Win the first 2 and ditch them both in the Striker round to enable an 86 token bid for Messi.
Pick them up for 1 token each in GK round 2.

The 2 new Aston Villa acquisitions:

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2013/jun/13/aston-villa-jores-okore-leandro-bacuna

If there was info posted about these 2 earlier, then I hope this will be complementary and not superfluous.

    Jores Okore, defender:

    Comes from F.C. Nordsjælland,
season 2012/13 with a statistic of 29 appearances and 4 goals for the defender (year before he got 1).

Plays for Danish national team, has a total of 11 appearances but no goals scored.

Danish press suggests that he relies on physical ability and pace to defend well. Quite aggressive in attack as well.

    Leandro Bacuna, winger;
    Comes from F.C. Groeningen:

ended season 2012/13 with a statistic of 37 appearances (played every game of the last 2 seasons for the club) with 5 goals, the previous season with 8.

Apparently he's form is all over the place. 3 times in the last 2 years he accrued his goal tally in sets of 3 successive games: (2-1-1) (1-1-1) (1-1-1) then blanked for the rest of the year.

Appears capable but probably needs to learn quite a bit more before settling in.

    Thats it for now, cheers;)

Thanks for the scout. Hopefully Okore is defensively solid because defensive errors were obscene from Villa this year. If Lambert does the unthinkable and gets their heads straight at the back I'd consider the Villa defence.

i'm reasonably confident in lambert and his scouting system, i hope these guys work out. lambert has a tough job to do with the clear out he has underway also. i heard the other day that stephen ireland is the top earning sports person in the whole of ireland, which seems faintly ridiculous.

Think he will ever sort out his defence? He was goal crazy at front and back at Norwich too. Not getting the impression I can touch a Lambert defence unless he changes his spots. Shame because they play good football.

Can you please stop dancing, it's been raining here for, like, 8 days straight.

It's like England or Seattle here ...

Loving HC .. It's really brightened up the place
Nicklas Helenius .. Aston Villa target looking quite likely to join.
Just putting it out there that I've been scouring the internet researching him the last day or two and he looks like a fantasy must.. Really do think he could be the next big thing.
16 goals in the Danish Superliga last year, but his dribbling and general play is absolutely sublime.
Really one to look out for!

Watched videos on YouTube expecting all his goals to be headers as he's 6 ft 5.. They were all mazy dribbled! Feet of a ballerina.

Having to do some pretty major research on the promoted sides as I'm a very occasional watcher of the Championship and came across a great championship blog a few days ago that I posted in the deadzone. He's analyzed the Championship attacks and defences. Has Cardiff down as the most solid defence (in terms of stopping shots from becoming goals). Hull created the most chances, Cardiff the next most, but Hull were much more wasteful. http://experimental361.com/2013/05/25/championship-attack-and-defence-201213/

Looking like a Cardiff budget defender and maybe a budget 5th mid in the shape of Craig Noone who In Like Flynn recommended. Joint fourth top scorer with 7 goals - top scorer only got 9 - goals may be spread out amongst team.

Bookmarked. Gunnarsson looking good, is Noone's place secure there?

I would say no as there was a lot of rotation to allow for the up tempo approach of Mackays system. Gunnarrson has got a Rolls Royce of an engine so was immune from it.

Mmm will have to consider him then.
              .
Cardiff sound like they could be quite hard to break down, energetic opponents.

Look at Marshall for sure then. The high number of shots conceded per goal conceded bodes well for his save points too.

Yep. The rotations are going to be crucial for him though as I don't want to rotate with Swansea with the Europa getting in their way. Somehow a good enough rotation with Ruddy would be class

Yep, they were pretty lethal. Didn't create a huge number of chances though - must have been their forwards being effective.
