Wayne Rooney could yet face a three-match ban for the clash with Wigan’s James McCarthy in yesterday’s 4-0 win.

The much-publicised incident saw Wigan awarded a free-kick for the collision between Rooney and McCarthy, with referee Mark Clattenburg claiming that the “challenge” was nothing more than “a coming together”.

Given that Clattenburg acknowledged the incident by awarding the free-kick, Rooney could escape without further FA sanctions, despite replays showing that the United striker led with his elbow. The same replays appeared to show that Clattenburg was watching the ball at the point Rooney and McCarthy collided; should Clattenburg claim that he saw the clash but missed the use of the elbow, the FA would be free to take matters further.

Today’s articles even claim that, if Clattenburg’s report allows the FA to investigate the incident, a three-match ban could be pushed through quickly under the new fast-track process; that would prevent Rooney from facing Chelsea in the league on Tuesday night.

Given that FA regulations state that charges and appeals are required to take place “within three working days” – this would seem somewhat unlikely.

We will hear plenty more on Rooney and “Elbowgate” from the media over the next 24-hours. Clattenburg’s report and a likely statement from the FA will be the crucial developments however.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Anderson going for 10 an over didn't help. especially as they let him bowl 10 overs and he only returned 1 wicket

Agreed, he's so ineffective in these conditions, which is a shame because I absolutely love him. He's a liability at the death too.

If it were up to me I'd drop him for Broad for the next game.

            Woakes?

Would be pretty tough for him on such a big stage given he's so inexperienced. But he did well in the games he played in Australia, and tears it up in county cricket.

Broad will definitely come back in, he's our best death bowler, and Anderson is the one who's performing worst at the moment.

No surprise seeing our main test batsmen performing the best, and then the 'all-rounders' f*cking up in the middle order. Does my head in when these nothing players like Wright and Bopara get in the side, simply because they can supposedly contribute with the ball, ahead of the players that perform in the test side.

Call me old-fashioned, but I think the test and ODI teams should be as similar as possible. If I were picking the team, Cook would definitely be playing.

After noticing an unpleasant smell from the shower waste I used the plunger to attempt to clear any blockage. When I did so the water coming from the waste was inky black and when I rinsed this away I could see what looked like small black gravel left in the trap. On attempting to scoop this out most of it disintegrated causing the water to go black again. I worked on this for about half an hour with the same result each time and no doubt it will continue as often as I attempt to plunge.
Does anyone have any idea what is likely to have caused this and what needs to be done to rectify it?

Can't understand Wenger's tactics first half. Why go with Rosicky in the Fab role? Nasri and Arshavin are isolated wider and Wilshere has to stay deep. When he gets forward Arsenal are far more productive. Switch Nasri central and Bendtner for Rosicky and put him wider. Have Nasri and Wilshere alternate going forward rather than Rosicky.

I notice you don't pipe up when people talk about rugby on here. Cricket is the second most popular sport in the world. Get over it.

Even if Arsenal win this (and I'd say it's looking less likely at the mo), there doesn't look like much progress to me. Panicky, rash and no structure. I have no idea who is supposed to be playing where. Birmingham have more stability and purpose, they've drawn Arsenal into a crapshoot where either team can score at every attack!
