There are mounting concerns that Robin Van Persie is set for another spell on the sidelines as a result of a knee injury sustained in today’s Carling Cup defeat.

As stated in today’s “Knee Jerk” (no pun intended), the Arsenal striker appeared to pick up the injury volleying home Arsenal’s first-half equaliser. The Dutchman was later withdrawn in the second-half amidst fears that he had suffered damage to the knee. Wenger revealed post-match that Van Persie had indeed sustained an impact injury on scoring the goal, with a full assessment likely on Monday. With the Champions League second leg in Barcelona looming large, Wenger sounded less than optimistic….

“Robin is not in good shape after this game. It’s a knee problem which we will have to assess on Monday.”

Van Persie has of course been a victim of a string of long and short-term injuries in recent seasons and many Fantasy Managers are likely to be philosophical given the risk that’s associated with the striker. With Arsenal facing Sunderland in gameweek 29, just three days before the Barcelona tie, there was always a chance that Van Persie would miss out. This latest injury could at least end all speculation and uncertainty around the likelihood of him being rotated, ruling him out of the gameweek reckoning altogether. We will hopefully know more within the next 24-hours.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I need to make some drastic changes to my crotch of crap team. I wanna end up with this team:

    Foster VDS
    Djourou Hutton (Luis) Carr (Kolarov)
    Nasri VDV (Malouda) Nani (Silva)
    Tevez (Carroll) (Hernadez)

The ones in brackets I don't have yet. Who should be the priority i.e. price rises/most important?

Should i do it now and take a big fat point hit like a madman?

Will Rooney be banned for the Chelsea game?

What is teh meaning of life?

    Right, so next week I've:
    Campbell (banned)
    RVP (probably injured)
    Barton (maybe injured)
    Silva (maybe injured)
    R. Johnson (maybe injured)
    Rafael (rotation)

Good good. A Huth injury tomorrow to just top it off no doubt.

I really give up with this season. I decide not to d Rooney for RVP because 'll want RVP back next week and then Rooney avoids being sent off and gets 11 pts.

Now RVP appears to be crocked again and out of next weeks game anyway.

I replace Walcott and get Joey Barton for a 4 pt hit instead..............

Next week I think I'm just going to say screw it and take an 8 or 12 pt hit. It seems to work for everyone else. Lord knows, the safe, no risk strategy doesn't seem to be working for me.

I'm feeling pretty low about it too, probably many others are. Just a really bad week for lots of reasons, unless you got lucky with a few key players. But sod it, next week you or I could be the lucky ones while others cry into the latest points screens.

It just seems to be the same thing every week, Mr T Man.

I seem to be steady Eddie. I get decent scores but I never seem to be able to get it right and have a whopper gameweek.

I'd just like one gameweek where all the players with good fixtures that I have get a mammoth score. Please?

Keep the perspective, nomar. You've had 4 good green arrows and Young or Downing for Barton without a points hit would've seen a much better week. Those are the margins.

We may yet see Rooney banned which means another spent transfer for many people. The 4 pointers do add up if you're transfering the same player in then out over 1 or 2 ganeweeks.

You now have the option to do RVP to Saha or Torres which you might not have done otherwise.

      Keep at it.

I reckon so. Despite having Evra, I'm half wanting Torres to show some form on Tuesday to make picking him over Saha for next week much easier!

I almost packed in the game a couple of months ago because I tried to be clever with my transfers and didn't get the obvious player in (Tevez). It took me a week to calm down. Just think, I've got "a life" and everything too 😉

(whispers it) First thing you should address is having threads rather than a running forum for each article. I reckon there'd be some smashing in depth tactical analysis going in if people thought their post wasn't going to be lost on the previous page.

Actually, I don't think you're a fan of that because the RMT posts would be ignored, but it would be worth a try, if only to differentiate yourself from this otherwise excellent site.

Yeah, fair play to them. Arsenal certainly not at their best, but not to take away from a Brum side full of grit. I liked the players shaking off injuries to carry on, could do with more of that sort of attitude in the game. From a fantasy point of view, it's worrying for Arsenal's confidence point of view.

So I went round Mark's the other day and there was Granville, hanging out the back of it. No word of a lie. Smashing it to a pulp. Pulping it.

I need to ship out Kelly and Rafael, who are people considering? Chelsea have a great run of fixtures.

Still can't believe what happened today 🙁
Why are people saying it was szczesnys fault, what did he actually do wrong, It was all Koscielny imo!

Gonna be some beer drank in the blue half of Birmingham tonight!

Because he should have been prepared to catch it no matter what Koscielny was doing.

Also he made a couple of other errors and should really have been sent off.

The way Koscielny tried to pull out suggests there was a call from the keeper who then didn't take it. Koscielny should have taken responsibility and I think it was a mistake by both players.

Koscielny should have been prepared to kick it no matter what szczesny was doing, suppose it works both ways and yeah he should have been sent off in fairness.. Fair points!

Neither covered themselves in glory, but Koscielny has got to smash the leather off that ball and worry about who should have dealt with it afterwards.

      Very poor defending.

        Agreed.

Their defence just isn't good enough.

I personally would love the likes of Samba or Cahill in that backline, a no nonsense determined character.. Tough one to take because theres not a chance united would have made that kind of mistake in a cup final!

If I supported Arsenal, I'd be decidedly unimpressed with the lack of a genuine top-class centre half signing.
