Injuries

Arsenal have officially confirmed that Robin Van Persie will be out of action for a minimum of three weeks.

The Dutchman suffered a knee problem whilst scoring the equaliser in the Carling Cup final defeat to Birmingham on Sunday. This means that the injury prone forward will miss the Premier League games against Sunderland and West Brom, as well as the Champions League clash with Barcelona at the very least.

Manager Arsene Wenger confirmed that Van Persie could be set for an even longer lay-off…

“Unfortunately, we had bad news on the scan and he will be out for the next three weeks for sure. It could be longer. The shortest delay we can imagine is three weeks [so] he is definitely out for Barcelona.â€

Van Persie has been in tremendous Fantasy Premier League (FPL) form in recent weeks and this will comes as a hugely frustrating kick in the teeth to his 18.3% of owners. In his last five games for the Gunners, he amassed a quite remarkable 63 points. Since the turn of the year the striker has managed to score 10 Premier League goals in just seven games and was looking unstoppable. Predictably however, an injury has brought his seemingly unstoppable form to a halt.

We should of course expect big sales. With Van Persie FPL price having risen from 9.5 to 10.3 in just five Gameweeks, many Fantasy Managers will now have to swallow a fairly significant loss of funds. Nonetheless we are likely to see the FPL transfer market flooded with cash ahead of gameweek 29, with plenty of activity on the way.

Wayne Rooney will be the most obvious like-for-like replacement. The Manchester United forward has found some form, scoring 4 in his last four games. Other options include Fantasy favourites such as Dimitar Berbatov and Carlos Tevez, although, as our Watchlist reveals (updated today – more on that later), Chelsea’s strikers will also be a temptation given the fixtures ahead. Nicolas Anelka is perhaps the strongest option here, although security over his starting role is in question. Should Fernando Torres impress against United tonight, we are likely to see renewed interest in him this week. Lower down the price bracket, Bolton’s Daniel Sturridge will surely grab further attention – an option that will free up funds for squad investment elsewhere. Perhaps even Van Persie’s likely replacement in the Arsenal starting XI deserves consideration – step forward Nicklas Bendtner.

Maybe not. A poll is now live on your frontpage to collect your views on the ideal RVP replacement.

Shifting attention away from Van Persie, Arsene Wenger also confirmed that Cesc Fabregas could yet make the Barcelona tie as he continues a recovery from his hamstring injury.

“Cesc is looking possible [for that game]…He is making quick and good progress. It is possible.â€

Given the absence of both Van Persie and Fabregas for the gameweek 29 fixture with Sunderland this weekend, we can surely expect Samir Nasri to be a prime target for Fantasy Managers. Nasri has climbed into the top five in our Watchlist and we will bring you a full article on his prospects later this week.

Theres a dude in one of my H2h Leagues who doesnt even play the game anymore - he has a massive defence but is 300k in the world but cos its head to head its pretty random so he is still leading in a poor league

Finally think ive him caught him this week to find Hernandez in his front line...

So lads EVERYONE has been saying that Wayne Rooney meant to Elbow James McCarthy.

I for one think otherwise. I hate Wayne Rooney, and his mannerisms and behaviour with the contract business etc. etc. etc.

BUT I have seen that clip as many times as the next guy and every time I have seen it, it looks to me as though James McCarthy has gone to block Rooney off, and then Wayne has gone to put his arm over his shoulder and push him off, but misjudged the height of James McCarthy, thus elbowing him in the face.

At some point your elbow is going to be sticking out whatever way you look at it. He wanted to push him off and move beyond him. It was a sending off offense but the ref didn't see it clearly, even Fergie admitted that. Any other player and it would hardly have been noticed, but because it's Rooney.....

              Don't know really.

One side will say that he got away with it only because he's Rooney, and the other sides claims that it's made worse because he's Rooney.

I don't think there is a conspiracy going on, facts are that he showed poor respect for a fellow professional and should have been sent off, the rest is opinion that looks to be based on club loyalty to me.

That's what I said it was a sending off offense and should have been penalised retrospectively. There is no club loyalty here, Rooney is still on parole with me.

Ben Thatcher is the reason FIFA changed the rules on re-refeering. The rule stinks if you ask me.
There was a similar incident with Gerrard earlier this season.

And Neville twice this season should have had retrospective punishment. Gerrard this season and last season should have been punished.

The FA suck. Somehow justifying Rooney's acitons sucks worse.

It was a sending off offence, I will admit, but it didn't mean that he meant to do it. I am 95% sure that He was trying to push him out the way, and at some point in that manouever, his elbow would be sticking out, like Granville said.

At the end of the day only one person knows. Wayne himself. And he is always going to agree with my opinion so whatever he says publically is trash.

Not sure how else to show massive frustration.

Exactly, why would he do that? He made the choice to make the contact possible, then turned that beyond spiteful.

Not understanding why he would do such a thing only harms his case. It was so un-called for it is hard to comprehend why. It doesnt change the fact he done it.

I posted on Twitter how I didn't think he MEANT it, but not enough characters, so someone told me to post on here. Which I did. Key word MEANT, he did elbow him FACT but he didn't MEAN to elbow him.

You don't have an opinion, you tried the old Talk Sport tactic of saying something controversial to get a response and got outed although even Stevie Wonder in a dark room would have spotted it.

I thought I'd just say all the inevitables before this evenings action starts just to get it all out the way and save jamsiep, jamsiep jnr, voronin, AP and Granville the touble.....

"WTF!?! Big surprise, United score a penalty from a Nani dive."

    "Shut up you ABU!"

"Rooney Shouldn't even have been on the pitch to take it! And he slept with a granny....."

"Typical, another ref who's in United's back pocket. Atkinson yor're a mug!"

"I really can't be bothered with this any more- United are just buying the league!"

    "From a Chelsea fan...."

I think that just about covers it.......

With Kelly, Meireles, Fabregas and RVP out - a big points hit, especially to bring in a couple of Evertonians - isn't looking as sacreligious as it might do otherwise. To me at least...

Granville i cant believe your still making it excuses for the lad. There is a reason he makes headlines. Cos he does stupid things and never learns. People aren't obsessed with Scholes are they? There is a reason.
He deserved a red, and nobody would be obsessed with him if he werent banging birds and cheating on his wife, swearing on tv , showing no respect for previous team mates ,managers or clubs and generally playing with the demeanor of a thug and showing no sign of ever learning.

And its foolish to say you know what he wanted to do. Given his track record the probability is he wanted to do McCarty damage and meant it.

You can still Love United but you have to draw the line at defending Rooney. He is beyond defense for his behavior.

Narrow midfield, which means that Lampard and Essien have literally nobody to pass to when they go forward. Because of this, Anelka or Torres are having to "show" on the flanks as an outball, then they cross into a box to one striker. They are currently being overwhelmingly outplayed. It coould just be that they're out of form individually but these tactics are only going to spell defeat or a gormless draw.

    Kelly - Djourou - Coleman - Kolorov - Bardsley

    Adam - VdV - Nani - Barton - A Young

    Berbatov - RvP - Tevez

Ok - who do I bring in? I have .7 in the bank?

This is who I think I should get rid of: RvP, Kelly, and Bardsly, and maybe Berbatov if he never plays.

Do I trade for Saha for the DGW? Do I try and get some Chelsea exposure? Who?
