Following on from yesterday’s preview movie, which highlighted the Projections and Rate My Team’s Player List feature at work, we now cast an eye over the Build My Team component.

Once again, I got together with Rate My Team’s creator, Chris Atkinson, to demonstrate and talk you through how this feature works in practice. The movie highlights how you can piece together a pre-season lineup and how, once the season is underway, Rate My Team can help not only with transfer strategies but also with selection dilemmas such as the captaincy and bench order.

In the third part of the Rate My Team movie previews we’ll be talking at length on how the tool works behind the scenes, including a full run through of the steps we take to keep it maintained and providing numbers that can help with your lineups.

Just a note for those looking to add their team id’s in order to retrieve their lineups in Rate My Team – as the movie explains, this feature is not available until squads are locked down for Gameweek 1 and made public. Otherwise, of course, we’d all be able to view each other’s teams right now by just adding ID’s into the tool. Rest assured, once Gameweek 1’s deadlines has passed, you will be able to add and save your team ID to transfer your current lineup into the tool for tinkering.

Fantasy Football Scout Memberships are now available for the pre-season price of £12.50.

What is Rate My Team?
Rate My team is a statistical model built specifically to assess every player in the Premier League and return their expected values for Fantasy Premier League (FPL) points in a given Gameweek. The system is a complex and thorough one which, of course, plots the probabilities of a player’s time on the pitch, their expected number of goals, assists, bonus points, yellow and red cards, clean sheets, own goals, goals conceded and saves. The strength of the opponent they are facing in a given Gameweek is also crucial; so every team has an attacking and defensive rating, every player a probability of playing a given match with injuries, suspensions and international absence factored in.

How Can It Help Me?
If you’re a member you can use the Rate My Team tool in a number of ways. Firstly, you can use it as a projections tool to predict what specific players will score, on average, over the next X number of Gameweeks. As you would have seen in our first movie, you have a players table that can be filtered by position or FPL cost and which can be extended to show any number of Gameweeks. You can also sort on “Value” to find those players projected to offer the best points per million return.

However, this is just one part of the functionality. Rate My Team can also analyse your existing FPL lineup, recommend captains, vice captains, your bench and bench order, and allow you to model your future transfers. You’ll see this at play in the movie above.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Is it just me or are there no great options up top this year?
Just judging the top 15 priced..

RVP - Great option but 14m
Aguero - A very expensive rotation risk
Suarez - Out for 6 games
    Rooney - Playing reverse OOP
Jovetic - Rotation risk and playing potentially reverse OOP
Negredo - Another City rotation risk most likely.. and not any better than Dzeko really.
Benteke - Awful fixtures and a blank in gw3.
Sturridge - Nicely priced and decent fixtures but injured and rotation with Suarez and Sturridge - when he's back probably
    Torres - haha
Cisse - Actually not much against him, his poor form last year aside. Not sure if I should consider him
Podolski - Played on the wing for Arsenal reverse OOP. Very meh
Giroud - Actually a decent option hopefully.. but disappointed many on here last season
Ba- Rotation risk with Lukaku and Torres. Lovely if he moves.
Defoe - Rotation.. probably not even many starts this year with Soldado (Who will be in my team)
Lukaku - again.. rotation.. but should be a decent option for the DGW.
    Adebayor - Again..not a starter.

Didn't do this for any reason.. it's not designed to help anybody or anything.
I just find it funny that the top 15 or so priced strikers are more or less poor options with the exception of 2/3

Flexibility is key, even possible future transfers. But I think planning to not buy/buy someone in GW4 because of options available in GW7, before GW1 is a bit OTT.

To be fair, last season wasn't too dominant...the Gunners edged it. However, should Spurs lose Bale (the bookies are now backing this strongly from what I hear) it is a huge huge blow which they would surely take at least a season to recover from. For the neutral (which I am despite the slight Arsenal bias that Granville delights in bringing up), it's bad news to be honest. Bale's performances at the end of last season were a sight to behold at times.

How the thought process works amazes me, if Spurs had been finishing ahead of Arsenal each season I could understand the relief. However Arsenal should be more concerned about regain ground on the others. Hardly a player purchased so far, Arsenals decline is set to continue.

also, i'm aware that i'm a bit weak up top but i don't want RVP and would rather have nailed on starters (Lukaku excluded) than rotation worries with city's hit-men.

finally, likely bringing in Benteke after villa's tough run of fixtures is over.

    thoughts?

      Looks pretty grim tbh.

For cheap defenders take some tips from other RMTs but plenty to choose from Collins, Turner, Chester, Parr.
Midfield looks weak. I would pick Walcott over Cazorla and get Bale for now over Coutinho. The other two look a bit pricey.
Forwards are weak - you want one big hitter. Suggest Aguero for now or RVP if Bale goes.

seeing as cazorla and walcott are priced within .5 of one another and both produced a ton of points last season, could you explain why you prefer the latter? if it's just personal preference i think i'll stick with santi.

as for bale, i don't expect his price to rise any more, though it could fall quickly if/when he goes to Madrid. i think i would rather leave him out for now.

where we do agree is that having coutinho and hernandez is making me nervous. 🙂

                Here is the evidence:

                1. Bale is a Spurs player
                2. There are no quotes from either Spurs, Real Madrid, the player or any agents that suggest he is being sold.

Your evidence is some obviously BS newspaper stories. He COULD be sold which is something that can be said about nearly every player on the planet but there is currently nothing to suggest a transfer is about to go through.

I wouldn't be to quick to sell Bale. He hasn't left Spurs yet and if he stay he could do some serious damage gw 1 against Palace. If he does leave then you still have plenty of time to re adjust your team.

Keepers - I think Migs is probably the best buy this year and should produce a good return. Him and Boruc of Southampton rotate nicely if you have some extra cash to grab him.

Defence - Merts should be good this year. Having said that Coleman is not nailed down and unless your last 3 defenders rotate nicely it could be a long year for your defence.

Midfield - It has the majority of your cash. Haz, Walcott (If healthy), Bale, and Mirallas ( a punt ) should all pay off big. Navas is not nailed down and could play a lot of very little. At 9 points is a big gamble.

Forward - IMO Lambert is the best forward buy. 7.5 for a guy who will consistently play well. 15 goals 8 assist and 32 bonus last year is an amazing score line. Lukaku is not nailed down and could be stuck is a huge rotation with Ba and Torres. Depending on your other forward you really don't have a huge point.

I really like the midfield but the amount of money you have in your mid is affecting your overall team. I would downgrade Navas to snodgrass or morrison or even a cheap player or upgrade one of your forwards.

Until it's on the official site or the manager is quoted I won't believe it.

    On the latest Scout Tweet

Why are Fulham looking for a striker? It's the midfield that stinks, it was awful last season, and only Boateng, a DM, has been added. Still lacks creativity. Plus this new guy could steal Berba's points. I can only think maybe Jol will look to play Ruiz in midfield and Berba as a number 10, rather than the main striker, which somewhat dilutes his FPL appeal

Rooney playing up front for Chelsea would be a dream since I think Chelsea is gonna win the league.

At United though, with no set pieces and playing in a midfield position sometimes, it's really not worth it for that price.

Remember what Moyes said about Rooney's priority? Something like "he'll play up front only if RVP is injured"

His comments that he will play second fiddle to RVP? (Same as last year)

He said he's a back up striker, but he'll still play every game, just not up front every match. I think he can do a lot of damage in the hole and if Moyes convinces him to stay, he won't play deep.
