The Community Round Up

The Chelsea and Aston Villa double Gameweek 1 proved to be this week’s biggest news as the community was deafened with the sound of ripped-up draft teams. We take a look back at the subsequent discussions and the other hot topics to catch our eye in the past seven days, and keep up to date with the latest from the community leagues taking place this summer.

Hottest Topics

Chelsea looks to the main source of investment for community members during this early double Gameweek, with few keen on Aston Villa’s assets. Lateriser21 was on hand to come up with a solution for those looking to acquire a trio of Blues options, the game’s two most expensive players Gareth Bale and Robin Van Persie, and avoid an early wildcard. However, this task will become much easier should Bale’s rumoured move to Real Madrid become reality.

Among those urging caution before investing in Villa’s assets was Triggerlips. He warns that for every double Gameweek player we invest in, the likelihood of points hits grows as both Chelsea and Villa are set to miss Gameweek 3.

Thinking of picking up a West Brom player? Maybe you will reconsider after reading Dino’s critical assessment of their chances. It proves grim reading for Baggies fans and those considering Nicolas Anelka as a cut-price striker option.

Second season syndrome was the inspiration behind this detailed post from Demi, who has analysed those players who may be primed for a far better second season in the Premier League. A certain Aston Villa striker is amongst those he suggests could have an impressive 2013/14 – perhaps investment in the midlanders’ attacking assets for the double Gameweek may not be a bad idea after all.

Meanwhile, Gimli Son of Gloin has taken an epic trek through the main captaincy options to help those looking at heavy hitters over the first few weeks. SW6’s Home and Away analysis was another post to catch our eye, especially his look at West Ham’s shockingly poor away form.

Finally, Camzy was on hand to wrap up some other key decisions that have been vexing the community over the last week, such as Anelka versus Southampton’s Jay Rodriguez as a cheap striker option. Whether to invest in Liverpool’s Simon Mignolet and a non-playing goalkeeper, as opposed to picking up two rotating keepers, was another key question analysed in this post.

Community Leagues

FFS UEFA’s Transfer Window Simulation (TWS) reached the second round of bidding for midfielders over the week. Man City, owned by Messimerized, went on quite a shopping as they acquired the duo of David Silva and Javier Martinez. Meanwhile Fulham, under PeppieandFelix, still lead the game, with Norwich, led by The Shadow, and 4vets’ Liverpool inching closer to the lead. The deadline for submission of bids on strikers is Saturday 23.59 hrs BST. Anyone interested can still sign up here.

Meanwhile, FFS UEFA’s leagues returns for another instalment this coming season. Click here to sign up.

little point on my mind if the nastasic injury turns out to be serious. i'd always favour lescott to partner kompany over richards as the left sided centre back. i guess kompany could move to left centre back if richards played cb but lescott coming in just seems far smoother and more likely

Or, considering they now only have 3 CBs, a new signing could be on the cards, Pepe?

But if no one is brought in, it probably will be Lescott to start the season

the pepe reports are interesting. i think they're based on pepe getting dropped for varane last season, i think however that was due to a fall oiut with mouinho over his support of casillas, with mourinho of course gone now. would be a fantastic signing for man city, i think that's the issue though it would be fantastic as he's such a good cb, one who real madrid will want in their starting lineup, their clean sheet record was dramaticly worse without him

I think their attacking potential and unquestionable 'nailed-on-ness' might be worth 1m premium over Toure.
Enrique: 2 goals, 6 assists, 134 points in 2257 minutes? Yes, please! Per minute, it is better than Baines' stats!
Johnson: 1 goal, 6 assists, 142 points in 3223 minutes? Well, per minute, not as good as Enrique or Baines, but still decent for a 6.0m defender.
and... look at those fixtures! 🙂

4.5: Quinn. Nailed on and good for the odd goal. Even 5.5 is more than I will ever spend on a bench player after last year's Nathan Dyer GW1 agony.

All I want is someone who should pick up a few whenever I need him. I'm either going with Lucas or Quinn like BOT said. Thing is, I could miss out on Quinns scores whereas I know Lucas should play nearly all games and will guarantee 2 maybe 3 and/or a BP if ya jam it. That's what I want. Nastatic is injured

I'd steer clear of Lampard personally - uncertain game time etc.

      Bale likely gone to RM.

    An idea for those going with Mignolet plus a 4.5m playing keeper;
    McGregor (Hull) rotates best home/away.
    Injuries aside the GW's up to January where you would most probably consider NOT playing Mignolet are;
    GW3 (MAN U)
    GW10 (ars)
    GW16 (tot)
    GW18 (man c)
    GW19 (chels)

    In those weeks McGregor has;
    GW3 (man c)
    GW10 (SUND)
    GW16 (STOKE)
    GW18 (man u)
    GW19 (ful)

    ... not so great.

    A better option I have found is Mannone (Sun), just to use on Migs bad weeks as doesn't rotate, but those dates give you;
    GW3 (palace)
    GW10 (hull)
    GW16 (w ham)
    GW18 (everton)
    GW19 (cardiff)
The downside is all away games. You pays yer money etc. etc.

Had you considered Marshall? Out of the three promoted clubs, I recall Cardiff having the strongest looking defense last year. For the five weeks you would want to rest Mignolet, you'd have EVE, SWA, WBA, SOT, SUN - you could do a lot worse.

      My reply from last page.

'Koren of Hull is liked by many on here, shares of FCs and likely pens. Brady of Hull also a contender, both at £5m. Same price in Kim at CAR, been scoring and assisting in pre-season, but not sure about his long-term starts chances. Thomas CPL £4.5m Mid is popular, if only on price, or you could punt new Spanish signing Campana, a former Barca youth, I believe, he's £5m.

My pitch is CAR Mutch. £4.5m, seems to play regularly at CM, and may have an odd goal or two in him.

      Hope that helps.'

League for dead teams - no transfers or wildcards during the season, pick your team and captains prior to gw1 then it is hands off for the rest of the season.

Avoid suspensions and injuries as best you can...

Second teams should not be entered in scout leagues etc! Just a bit of fun on the side.

Have adjusted it many times. I hate that RVP isn't present but I am scared off by his fixtures and price. I am also worried about having 3 Chelsea players after the first game week!

    Mignolet (Davis)
    Ivanovic, Mertesacker, Zabaleta (Garrido, Parr)
    Gerrard, Silva, Hazard, Walcott (Colback)
    Anelka, Aspas, Lukaku

    Thanks!!

          Luiz, Merte, Collins, Clyne, Burner

          Wally, Haz, Oscar, Mutch, Bale

          JRod, Negredo, Wiemann

          Subject to change though... 🙂

As for CHE trio, I'll be ditching CHE Def post GW1, then see how other pair do against MU (quite the quality test eh?). Will decide on evidence (runes, dice etc) from there.

Yeah...he's hench! I agree totally with the comparisons, what makes him the most attractive of the 3 is that it's likely he'll play a lot more than Lukaku and has a better squad behind him than tekkers (plus 1 mill cheaper). Another similar player who is proven and a bit more cut price is Kone. I'll be watching him and bony, may start with RVP tekkers and Lukaku for their DGW's, Lukaku out for bony GW2, tekkers for someone else gw3

Forget the Bale saga for a minute if you can please...

Who will be the regular back 4?

Ultimately I'm eluding to the question:

NO such thing as reg back 4, rotation/injuries hit all sides.

Likely to start with Walker, Daws, KaBoom/Caulks, Rose/BAE - hard to be firmer since AVB not a BAE fan for some reason, KaBoom fitness still in question, rumours about Caulks to CAR.

But Walker and Daws look almost certain to start season. Expect KaBoom to feat, and of course Verty when he's back (GW2/3 perhaps).

So yes, Daws looks very safe for GW 1-3 starts, I'd say.

Sunderland have one of the best set of fixtures in the first 3 weeks. I am surprised S. Sessegnon isn't in more teams. At 7.0, he seems to be great value. Good form at the end of last season, scoring for fun in pre-season, playing in his favorite position, new passionate manager that seems to favor him. I think I just may.

Also there are a number of 'outs' at his price range should he falter at the start - R. Snodgrass, H. Ben Arfa, Mirallas, Nolan.

Having him as the 4th playing mid in a 3-4-3 allows for Sir L. Baines to enter my team 😀

I had him in my team for about 10 minutes. Then I remembered that his manager is a complete nutcase.

PDC could easily run onto the pitch, knee Sess in the groin and start playing in his place, swinging a polo mallet round his head. This is just one scenario. There are infinitely more equally mental scenarios for that man.

    RMT and bit of info.

    Guzan - (Ruddy)

Toure - Zabaletta - Coleman (Clyne - Collins)

    Silva - Hazard(c) - Coutinho - Lennon (Bellamy)

    Lukaku - Negredo - Anelka

Using the goalkeepers as a rotation options.

Hoping Toure gets the nod can be 15 clean sheets, Zabaletta form will hopefully carry on, Coleman hoping that Martinez goes 3-5-2 and Colemans used on the wing and Clyne/Collins for Rotation.

Silva to pick up form with new manager and signing, Coutinho to carry on his form, Lennon to step up his game filling in for Bale, Hazard for DGW and Bellamy as cheap option.

Lukaku for DGW, Anelka for fixtures and proven point scorer and then Negredo for the fact Aguero not really had much game time and Negredo seems to be in decent form.

Im guessing you're banking on Guzan for saves? Great keeper, let down by a weak defence. Ruddy a good choice 🙂

Zabaleta great player, just hope micah richards doesn't refind his form or he could be on rotation at city this year. The sole reason i haven't selected him, because he is one of my favourite players in the EPL. Toure should get the nod, in pre-season Brendan Rodgers has been fielding Agger and Toure at the back and from all accounts look set to have a good partnership.

Like the midfield appart from Bellamy, can see why you've got him but in fairness he didn't do too well at Cardiff last season - he's more of a marquee 'big name' signing...and i don't think he'll find the heights of previous seasons. Good bench warmer though i suppose. Lennon, good choice however why not take a gamble and go for Chadli? Yes it's a risk, but the lad has talent from all accounts - its just whether he can transfer it to the EPL.

Apparantly Dzeko going to be utilised more this season, better option than Negredo at the moment and you have more money free on upgrading bellamy to snodgrass or nolan 🙂

Blimey, he's slower that Richard Dunne. Good player, but terribly slow. Wouldn't be happy with that were I a Brommie
