Saturday’s early kick-offs are the scourge of us Fantasy Managers. I’m convinced that Sky’s 12.45 schedule is accountable for many a hasty transfer, or ill-judged team selection – prompted by the temptation of actually being able to settle down with a belated fry-up and watch your player(s) in action.

Today’s early kick-off at St Andrews was another example. Although in Birmingham’s case, our scramble to recruit two or three of their Wembley winners was surely fuelled by the allure of another tempting double fixture. I’ve got to confess however, the prospect of watching Nikola Zigic lumber about St Andrews, colliding with the fragile West Brom backline played a part in my own 11.23 decisions. I had the kettle boiling in preparation.

Suitably seduced, our ardour was immediately dampened by the sight of Zigic hunched under the plastic roof of the Birmingham bench. McLeish’s post-match obituary for his side’s miserable 3-1 defeat, revealed a groin injury for the towering Serb. Throwing him on would be too risky according to Birmingham’s medical team. You have to wonder why McLeish even named the striker on the bench then – perhaps he makes a decent wind break.

Without the knowledge of the injury during the game, we were left to watch on, awaiting a Zigic introduction. It looked inevitable as the Birmingham defence repaid our Fantasy investment by flapping and flailing haplessly under the questionable might of West Brom’s attacks. But, hampered by a “risky groin” Zigic never arrived.

The Serb looked perplexed. Frustration boiled in the McLeish veins. He should be worried – Birmingham’s defeat leaves them right in relegation mire. Last Sunday’s trophy will be rendered an almost worthless trinket should they fall any deeper.

Talking of worthless – what now for Zigic and our Birmingham back four investments? We’re now looking to Wednesday’s trip to Goodison with our hopes dependent on Zigic’s groin. Zigic’s bloody groin. That might be six foot off ground but I can’t help but think that, in my Fantasy season, it marks an all-time low.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    CRICKET

Long way to go but England 3 runs for 2 wickets. And 2 massive wickets at that. Come on SA!

And 30 points with a few to play.

anyone else sick of Kolarov? I mean, for me if I spend a good amount on a dman, I am expecting he gets the 90 for sure. the way a Patrice Evra would in his place for example (more costly, but you get my meaning). seeing him subbed during a clean sheet performance for me is the last straw.

Glad to see I wasn't the only person with Ridgewell. Unfortunately it looks like Osman slipped into the space I though he would take up. To be honest that last 6 minutes was some of the most ridiculous football I've seen in a while. There probably could have been some 6 goals in that period of time. It looked like that last game of pick-up ball that everyone knows they shouldn't have played.

This GW could be the worst one this season. Young missing a pen just added to the misery. And to add salt to the wound, my rival had Silva who had a nice gift from Al-Habsi. 🙁

My worst this season is 32 points. On 30 at the moment so I should push past that after ManU beat Liverpool 2-0 later today with goals from Nani & Rooney.

A big problem. I just hope Raul Meireles can play, I'm sure he'll love running behind Wes Brown. I think SAF will play around with both twins for some reason. They both (if not Fabio, Raphael has been in form before his recent run of bad luck)look in form. SAF I think is priming Fabio for that 'advanced-defensive-mid' thing we've seen him unleash w/ Park.

Half thinking of holding onto RVP now what do ye think?
    - He could only miss one more gw, then gw31 is on April 2nd.
    - His value hasn't fallen yet with about 170,000 NTO so he'll probably only fall by .3m tops
    - I'll want him back anyway once he's back from injury for nice fixtures & dgw.. selling him now means losing .4m

The thought had also crossed my mind too, Scratch. However, a knee injury/cartiledge is a serious injury and needs some time. Plus he'll have to get match fit again.

The other consideration is that with Man U's fix improving, Rooney looks a must to go with Tevez. I see quite a few have bought him in already. Can see him rising .2/.3 in the next two weeks.

You'll have to ask Houllier. I didn't see the penalty miss but it is reported on bbc as a brilliant save by the keeper. So maybe Young will keep the duties. But that's guesswork. Like my claim above.

Zigic still has a game to play so you get a second chance. I guess you have to buy with future fix in mind rather than just a single gwk. The idea of being saddled with Zigic for the season didn't make much appeal to me.

Indeed my judgement was clouded double gameweek get a couple of noses in your team was the general consensus - earlier in the season I got good service out of Ridgewell but why on earth did I think putting Zigic as captain was a good idea. As a Villa fan I'm ashamed of myself, first they win a cup now they shaft me in the FFL - I'd like to kick him in the groin guaranteed Arteta et al will run all over these in the week, bloody small heath alliance they're cursed.

I'm not sure what the point of playing is for that person. If he's not that interested then why bother making transfers at all?

Just log off, forget about your team and do something else with your ife instead.

It's like 'Katie'. Made all those silly transfers last week and then went and did 1 transfer this week. Why still pay attention to it after you deliberately sabotaged yourself the week before?

I got his 11 pointer but other than that he's done naff all.

Never plays when Citeh keep cleanies so its kind of moot having him as your entry into the City defence, really. Which was the only reason for keeping him.

Djourou it shall be, I think.

In fairness to Kolorov, it isn't the first time that he has been left out or subbed early against the weaker teams at home. He tends to get the high-profile games which is kind of flattering but makes it less likely he will earn clean sheet points.

League leader made his transfers with about a minute to go before the India game started. Gutted.

Also, just realised my ticker is wrong. Had the India game down before this England one, and so didn't bring Amla in for Tharanga a couple of days ago before the Holland game. Gutted again.

Balls, just realised we've got 2 weeks till the next GW!

Early doors i know, but thoughts on this?

    GW30: Kolarov -> Dawson
    GW31: No transfer
    GW32: Foster, Baines & Tevez -> Cech, Luiz & Torres (4 points)

Dawson gets injured along with Torres. Luiz gets a 3 match ban.

If MU & Arsenal draw & Man City win/lose then trading one of the players out in GW30 is a more important thing to do.

You're right, its early doors, but I'll give you my thoughts anyway.

Kelly out might be a more pressing need in your def. At least Kolarov plays (occasionally). Also, Coleman is unneccesary with Baines so you might want to change him and keep Kelly on your bench?

Foster to Cech is a waste of a transfer in my opinion.

Rather have Rooney for 1 game than Torres for a dgw. Torres in no form and not on pens. Not really good value there, dgw or not, as things stand right now. If he finds form however all well and good. But if he can't put Blackpool to the sword tomorrow then I'd look elsewhere.

I think Luiz my be all the Chelsea you'll need at their prices. I have Lamps but he's going. I only got him in for this gw. I'm planning for Luiz but he'll be the only Chelsea player I have. The rest are ridiculously overpriced.

Found this team at the bottom of the Millionaire Club this week. Interesting captain. Looks likely to miss out on both comps now.
