Just in case you missed it, we’re supporting PlayON over the new season as our weekly Premier League game of choice. Yesterday we brought you our Strategy Guide, offering some tactical approaches that worked for us last term and tomorrow we’ll be following this up with our first regular player picks article. Today, however, we’re going to examine some of the features of PlayON that you may have overlooked or missed out on whilst playing the game. Plus, we get to take an exclusive peek at the new PlayON website in development.

The Live Matchday Experience

PlayON is powered by a live feed of data from OPTA which enables them to update their points on the fly. They also provide a live feed of events as they happen – this means you can see your points tick away as tackles, goals and assists rack up. You can also see your standing in any of the games you’re playing update live and even compare your current score against any of your competitors. Take it from us, it’s addictive stuff when you’re tussling at the top for some prize money.

For a preview of a live matchday on PlayON, check out this movie.

My Club and League of Titans

We have to admit, we only investigated this feature at the very end of last season but can see clear potential in it. PlayON enables you to affiliate yourself to your favourite club, which means that from that point on, your PlayON weekly team score get added to your club’s points total. This can help your favourite club win trophies in the game when they reach certain points thresholds.

This is taken a step further with the dramatically named, “League of Titans” – which is designed to prove which club supporters know the most about football. Here the top scorer from each club is picked to represent their club in the following Gameweek – leveling the playing field between clubs with small numbers of followers and the larger clubs. Score well and you might get the chance to become the “Titan” for your club and go some way to demonstrate that your supporters have the superior football knowledge. After all, it’s scientifically proven that Fantasy Football ranking is linked to football knowledge.

Open Challenges

PlayON, like most Fantasy Football experiences, is best played with mates but, if you’re new to the game, you can immediately get involved in some one-on-one challenges by using the “Open Challenge” option. You set the number of games you want to play, the amount you wish to stake and other players will see your challenge and come and take you on.

The New PlayON

There’s a revolution on the way with a brand new site being prepared to enhance your PlayON experience. While this is being developed as this is typed, PlayON have offered us an exclusive early peek at what’s in store and you can view the development site via this link.

As you’ll see, the game is getting major facelift with a slick new design but there’s also new features on the way:

Top 5 Leaderboard
Your top five weekly scores over the PlayON season will now be collected and you’ll be ranked against other players in this new leaderboard. There will also be Top 5 Leaderboards for individual games for those setting up regular showdowns with mates.

Enhanced Live Matchdays
PlayON are adding a chat facility to the matchday console. This will fire up once the game is created during the week so you can start the banter before the first whistle blows. There will be private chatrooms for all games created on PlayON so the players involved can trade jibes while the points tally up. There will also be new matchday information tickers updating on major events in the matches and full lineup details for each match. Nice.

And there’s more…
With a new mobile site on the way and a reward system that offers players cash prizes for reaching milestones, these are exciting times for PlayON.

The PlayON Team would like to get feedback on the new site from us so if you have any suggestions for improvement or new features you would like included, add them as comments below and the PlayON Team will pick them up.

Be sure to check out our player picks article tomorrow and, if you fancy taking part this weekend, refer back to yesterday’s strategy guide for some tips to get you started.

You can play for free and Fantasy Football Scout is running a £2 multiplayer game for the community with a guaranteed £500 prize pot this weekend.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Honestly though I like it. Wouldn't want to start Anelka every week though. So maybe try to find the 0.5 million for J Rod.

Ivan a rotation risk imo. Distin playing for a less defensive-minded Everton, Morrison, i just don't rate personally, Anelka another rotation risk, and too a lesser extent, so is Lukaku. Van P is Van P, but they still have rotten fixtures. There you go.

Re-post, Updated from comments and Team news

    Pre-Season budget round up

Looking at Coutiandbelow5th’s amazing pre-season appearance table (link at bottom) and team news there appears to be a few bargains, mostly in defense.
I’ve sifted through and made a list of the ones that have appeared enough to stand out to me. Please post your updates, additions or reasons for removal as we know pre-season appearances can be superficial:

    Defenders
Baker 4.0. AVL. 4 Starts and 5 subs from 9. Strong competition from Okore.
    Luna/Vlaar 4.5. AVL. 6 Starts and 3 subs from 9. Nailed on LB/Club captain.
Turner 4.0. CAR. Started all 6. Him or Hudson, contrasting views on it.
Ward 4.0. CPL. RB All had 4 Starts and 1 sub from 6. Most secure of CPL.
Chester 4.0. HUL. 7 Starts from 9. Nailed on.
Wisdom 4.5. LIV. 3 Starts and 2 subs from 7, If Agger leaves he’s first choice.
Toure 5.0. LIV. 5 Starts and 1 sub from 7. Nailed on.
Yang Mbiwa 4.5 NEW. 4 Starts and 2subs from 6. Rotation risk with Saylor.
Lescott 5.5. MAN. Only 3 Starts and 3 subs from 7, replacing nastasic probably for 3 games.
Bennet 4.0. NOR. 5 Starts and 2 subs from 7. Bassong return?.
Turner/Olsson 4.5. NOR. Fb and Olsson OOP on the wing.
Chambers 4.0. SOU. 6 Starts from 6. Temporary Clyne replacement.
Shaw. 4.5. SOU. 3 Starts and 3 subs.
Dawson 5.0. TOT. 5 Starts from 6. Captain.
Reid 5.0. WHM. 6 Starts and 3 subs from 10. CB’s are too large rotation risk. Ask Doos.

    Midfielders
Ramsey 5.5. ARS. 4 Starts and 2 subs from 6. Cheap coverage.
Delph 4.5. AVL. 6 Starts and 3 subs from 9. Promising but pressure from westwood?
Tonev 5.0. AVL. Only 3 Starts from 9 but is fit now. Praised by lambert.
Kim. 5.0. CAR. Star man in pre-season.
Williams 4.5. CPL. 4 Starts and 1 sub from 6. Winger. New Competition from Grandin.
Thomas 4.5. CPL. May miss gw1.
Barkley 4.5. EVE. 3 Starts and 2 subs from 7. Replaces Gibson if injured, great pre-season.
Meyler 4.5. HUL. 6 Starts and 2 subs from 9. Competing with Huddlestone.
    Allen 5.0. LIV. 6 Starts and 1 sub from 7. Good pre-season.
Sterling 5.5. LIV. May play on wing if Coutinho central, news friday.
Zaha 6.5. MUN. 5 Starts 2 subs from 7. Massive potential.
Tiote. 4.5 NEW. 4 Starts and 1 sub from 6. Holding mid.
Tettey 4.5. NOR. 5 Starts and 1 sub from 7. Holding mid.
    Lallana 6.0. SOU. 4 Starts 2 subs from 6. Great pre-season.
Adam 6.0. STO. 3 Starts 2 subs from 5. In the hole.
Cabral 4.5. SUN. 5 Starts from 5. Holding mid.
    Colback 4.5. SUN. 5 Starts from 5. Wing-back.
Routledge 5.5. SWA. 7 Starts 2 subs from 9. Alternative is Shelvey.
Yacob 4.5. WBA. 6 Starts 2 subs from 8. Holding mid.

    Forwards
Weimann 6.0. AVL. 6 Starts and 2 subs form 9.DGW
Rodriguez 6.0. SOU. 5 Starts and 1 sub from 6.
    Crouch 6.0. STO. 3 Starts 2 subs from 5.
    Altidore 7.0. SUN. 4 Starts 1 sub from 5.
Anelka 5.5. WBA. 7 Starts and 1 sub from 8. New rotation risk.
Maiga 5.0. WHM. 8 Starts and 2 subs from 10. Secure for 3 games.

    The incredible research:

Hey guys, not been on too much in the past week or so. How's my team looking? (Not posted a RMT yet so would appreciate comments.)

    Mignolet (Daniels)
Mertesacker - Shaw - Turner (Brayford - Chester)
    Hazard - Walcott - Coutinho - Silva - Mirallas
    Soldado - Giroud (Chamakh)

This is how my team should look GW2, when i've done Cole + Lukaku --> Shaw + Soldado. Decided to post it this way as GW1 isn't really a true reflection of the team.

Looks pretty damn awesome to me. Only slight query is that in Brayford and Chamakh you could have two non-playing subs which could leave you slightly exposed unless you plan to also transfer our Hazard for GW3.

Ha! that's what I posted, I guess that's your Collins backlash and you're looking at Wilson and Wilkinson.
Shawcross, Huth, Cameron and ... Wilson maybe.

Stressing guys. Who wants to TMTA

    How am I looking

    Mannone (Boruc)

Collins - turner - koscielny (Colman, Brayford)
    Oscar - hazard (c) - Snodgrass - Coutinho (Koren)
    RVP - Soldado - Anelka

    0.5 INB

Unsure of lack of Dgw coverage, city and arsenal. Any ideas who I really must have?

Looks really good. Only change would be noble for someone like Koren (nailed on and set pieces) also not sure of Whittaker. Great team

By my counting this is the injured list for Arsenal at the mo....

Arteta (up to a month), Vermaelen (October), Monreal (who knows), Sagna (maybe), Ramsey (maybe), Walcott (maybe), and Diaby (can't we just put him down?) being possibly out.

This plus the 10 odd players to leave the Emirates with ONE coming in

Not entirely sure they will be able to full the bench....

Where is the link to Arteta being out that long? This link and Wenger also stated he will face a fitness test for weekend, http://www.givemesport.com/368893-arsenals-injury-concerns-grow-ahead-of-season-opener?

Can someone explain to me again why most don't think Baines is worth it when he out scored similarly priced midfielders last season?

Because say you have a 7.5m mid, you can get a decent 4.5m defender who will actually score decent points, whereas if you have a 7.5m defender and have to go with a 4.5m mid, that midfielder will score bugger all. Plus there's speculation that with Martinez as manager Everton will keep fewer cleansheets.

The thing is - it could be the difference between 5.5 def + 8.5 mid vs 7.5 Baines and 6.5 mid. The difference between Baines and say mertesacker is much wider than Fellini and snoddy.

There are many bargain 5.0m defenders to get this year and many quality attackers. No room or funds.

I know what you mean. Sometimes you have to make decisions for the fun factor, but sadly it doesn't help your overall rank most of the time.

Perhaps this season I will try to make more decisions to improve the fun factor, as it was a bit of a slog last season!

my defence is alreeady falling apart before the season starts

    Cole Coleman Collins Brayford Chester

I am under the impression that Collins may well be injured, and rotated, also brayford may not even start.
that leaves me with Chester against chelsea

    should I reshuffle my defence?
