Mikel Arteta has been ruled out of Arsenalโ€™s home game with Villa. Andre Villas-Boas is set to be without Gareth Bale for Spursโ€™ trip to Palace, where Jerome Thomas is sidelined for a couple of weeks for the hosts, Liverpool have good news on the defensive front and Southampton are still doubtful over Nathaniel Clyne and Luke Shaw.

Our team news section has been updated on the back of the latest press conferences and will be refreshed as today unfolds โ€“ keep an eye on this and our twitter feed ahead of what is set to be a hectic next 24-hours for Fantasy managers:

Arsene Wenger will head into tomorrowโ€™s match against Aston Villa without the influential Mikel Arteta. Speaking to the press in the last hour, the Gunners boss admitted he is uncertain when the Spaniard will return, though according to The Mail, the playmaker could be out for up to six weeks with the injury โ€“ potentially handing spot-kicks duties to Lukas Podolski and forcing Jack Wilshere into a deeper role alongside fit-again Aaron Ramsey in front of the back-four.

Although he ruled out the likes of Thomas Vermaelen, Nacho Monreal and Ryo Miyaichi, Wenger failed to mention Theo Walcott, Bacary Sagna or Santi Cazorla this morning. The first two had picked up minor problems on international duty, while Cazorla was late flying back from Spainโ€™s match in Ecuador amid worries of fatigue โ€“ Fantasy managers will be optimistic the trio are fine, then, though some confirmation would have gone a long way to easing our fears as we finalise our squads.

Elsewhere in north London, Andre Villas-Boas looks set to be without Gareth Bale for Tottenhamโ€™s trip to Crystal Palace on Sunday. The Welshman hasnโ€™t played for three weeks due to injury and, when asked whether he would be available to face Ian Hollowayโ€™s side, Villas-Boas replied:

“No, because he’s been out injured for most of pre-season. He was involved in the games against Brentford and Swindon but not any others, for different reasons; pulled a muscle in his gluteus that prevented him from being involved for two weeks and he’s been complaining of pain in the foot. I think the most natural thing is to see him not involved against Palace.”

With Bale out of the equation, itโ€™s possible that Gylfi Sigurdsson could tuck in behind Roberto Soldado, with Nacer Chadli on the left, if the visitors line up in a 4-2-3-1 formation, though the Belgian has also been fielded in โ€œthe holeโ€ during pre-season. Alternatively, Villas-Boas may opt for the 4-3-3 shape he preferred at Porto โ€“ a scenario that could see Paulinho as the most advanced central option, with Sandro, Mousa Dembele and new boy Etienne Capoue offering plenty dynamism in the middle of the park.

Brendan Rodgers has received some positive news ahead of Liverpoolโ€™s early kick-off with Stoke tomorrow. The Reds boss expects both Daniel Agger and Martin Skrtel to be fit to face the Potters, though while the Dane will return to the starting XI, Skrtel is likely to warm the bench โ€“ Kolo Toure is firmly ahead of the Slovakian in the pecking order and has started every pre-season friendly he has been available for.

Martin Jol will hand Alex Kacaniklic a late fitness test as Fulham make their way to Sunderland. The Cottagers boss has admitted Adel Taarabtโ€™s fitness is still an issue and with the Moroccan only likely to make the bench, Kacaniklic could be in line for a starting role on the left wing providing he gets the all clear after impressing in pre-season, according to his manager.

Southampton full-back pair Nathaniel Clyne and Luke Shaw both remain doubts for tomorrowโ€™s trip to West Brom. Speaking to the press yesterday, Mauricio Pochettino revealed the pair are making good progress:

“We’re very happy because Luke has responded well throughout the week. With one training session left tomorrow, I think he could be in the 18 players called up for the game against West Brom. Clyney has been recovering from a little niggle that he’s had since Austria. [His involvement] depends on the training session tomorrow but, if he’s not in the group for West Brom, he’ll be most probably available for the game after. “

Clyne pulled out of the midweek England Under 21 game against Scotland after being withdrawn in last weekendโ€™s friendly win over Real Sociedad, while Clyne has yet to feature over the summer. Pochettino may turn to Danny Fox and Callum Chambers in the event of any potential absence and the Saints boss also conceded he has yet to assess the fitness of Gaston Ramirez and Maya Yoshida, who both featured in the Japan v Uruguay friendly on Wednesday.

Michael Laudrup was awaiting the return of Wilfried Bony yesterday, after Swanseaโ€™s new forward turned out for Ivory Coast against Mexico in New Jersey in the early hours of Thursday morning. Laudrup โ€“ who will be without Jonathan de Guzman due to concussion โ€“ seemed far from happy with the situation as he prepares for tomorrow eveningโ€™s match against United:

“Bony will be back late on Thursday with jetlag, which is not great. To play for your country is great and the club should be proud of all our internationals, but having a friendly three days before the start of the season is strange. This is the last year when it will happen fortunately. That’s an intelligent decision.”

Ian Holloway handed Fantasy managers a heads-up after announcing Jerome Thomas is ruled out for two weeks with the ankle problem that saw him limp off against Lazio after just 22 minutes last weekend. Yannick Bolasie added to Palaceโ€™s boss with a hamstring injury that will keep him out โ€œfor some timeโ€, according to the Eagles boss. With his options on the flanks limited, Holloway could keep faith with Jonny Williams as an option out wide โ€“ fortunately, he comes in at 4.5 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL), the same price as Thomas, and looks secure for game time in light of yesterdayโ€™s news.

Strange this season, I think after the DGW I'll be more than happy to have a front line of

Soldado, Lambert and either Bony or Benteke for quite some time (of course allowing for Benteke's blank.) The only striker I could see myself wanting is Suarez, possibly RVP if the price plummets. Then again, all of this is based on not having Bale, academic really ๐Ÿ˜€

Like the Negredo pick, but as a Liverpool supporter, not that you've got Liverpool cover ๐Ÿ˜‰ Can't see Lampard playing any of the Villa game (as I expect him to start v United).

And I've captained Lukaku over Hazard, Haz is the safer option though I guess.

Well, I've got double Liverpool defence. I have confidence in you protecting the back 4 ๐Ÿ˜‰

Jose was talking about Lampard needing minutes to build up fitness the other week. I'm thinking he could get time in both games as part of that but of course it's a risk. I want to captain Lampard over Hazard but having him is differential enough so I'm going Hazard(c).

Too many question marks surrounding City for me at the moment but i guess that double cover does kinda help there in a way. Silva seems a cert to play at least but i worry about him turning into Modric as Mark suggested in the scoutcast. Negredo? I suppose he should start but i hate that uncertainity so i'm avoiding.

Double Liverpool cover at the back is tempting and will probably pay off. Having Coutiniho myself i'm a bit reluctant as if i get Mignolet AND Toure there will be no room for Sturridge should i need to bring him in. The rest looks fine. Lampard is an interesting punt as always and i really like little Williams at Palace. He's a very tidy footballer but i worry that may not exactly show in fantasy terms. Not exactly a big problem though at £4.5m is it

I think Torres may start v Villa, Hull will be Romelu's bitch though.

80-90mins v Hull and a minimum of 10-25mins v Villa is enough for Lukaku (c) for me.

I guess. Started most pre season games until what seemed like the important one but hasn't put me off.

A PDC signing maybe promised some gametime?
        Italian.

Westwood was already at the club, already second fiddle...easy to just leave him second choice right?

Besides if I'm wrong, boruc will come in and Southampton early fixtures are reasonable enough for me to play him a few weeks!

Baker and Whitaker are not first choice. Look at the promoted teams for 4m defenders - Chester, Ward, B Turner, Brayford. Jagielka is too expensive.

There are fitness issues with Aguero so don't start the season with him. Once you've made some changes see if you can upgrade Wilshere (injury prone and no goalscoring pedigree) to someone around the 9m mark.

I have viewed it like this.

RVP owners aren't going to captain him. Before GWK 4. So I'm going without, for now, and seeing how it goes. By GWK 4, you'll know if you'll want him in or not, and will make arrangements to do so.

But a RVPless team will probably benefit you before GWK 4, and give you some peace of mind ๐Ÿ™‚

    Ivanovic. Mert. Toure.

Should always post your subs, even if they're crap. Dzeko is a risk that could pay off nicely, no other faults with the outfield players. Don't think Foster is worth 5m.

The subs are... well... I wouldn't say embarrassing but shall we say 'not noteworthy'? ๐Ÿ™‚

        Boruc, Kim, (B)urner, Chester.

It was either Dzeko or Lambert or another 7.5 FWD, or... Anelka and spend the extra 2.0 elsewhere but couldn't think where as I didn't want to pump extra funds into either DEF or MID.

Foster does rotate will with Boruc. And seems best for 5.0?

        Appreciate your thoughts though. Thanks.

The subs are fine, they should all play at least. Dzeko could go very well, Lambert is a safer pick with less potential but at the same time you won't find yourself needing to sell him in a couple of weeks.

As I've said to others I rate Mignolet and a 4m keeper over the Foster/Boruc combo.

Appreciate the Migs + 4.0, although to start off with I did have Migs + 4.5 (a playing keeper).

I just don't like a non-playing 4.0 keeper, plus, I have Toure to cover Migs and didn't want to double up on any defence.

Personal preference I guess and who knows who'll be right in the end?

P.S. - If you don't mind me asking what's your team / key players and how is it shaping up?

Normally, my strategy is 2 rotating keepers as that tends to offer the best value. Mignolet is underpriced as Reina was there when FPL opened and I believe this is where the value is this season.

                Toure, Collins, Murner, Shaw, Chester
                Hazard(c), Lampard, Walcott, Silva, Williams
                Soldado, Negredo, Lukaku

Well, not that you need my assistance, but, for what it's worth...

Hopefully Shaw will recover from injury - I'm not sure how accurate that was in the end but there is Clyne to replace him with.

Love the Lampard 'punt' and thought about doing so myself. The only thing that swayed me not to was money, and that hopefully pennos will come late in the game when he may be subbed off and Hazard will take them. But you have Hazard so fantastic. Silva's never been in my thinking. Not sure why. For some reason I see him as a bit of a Modric. Ish. Don't know who Williams is but presume he's a 4.5 otherwise you'd go for Koren / Kim etc.

Negredo is again a great choice, bit risky perhaps with Dzeko and Aguero in the mix but could pay off really, really well. A lot of peeps rate him as highly as Soldado.

                Good luck. Great team.

Thanks, Shaw is on the bench for GW1 so shouldn't be a problem providing that Collins plays.

Good luck to you as well. You should get a grav, can be hard to notice people on here when its busy - http://www.gravatar.com

                    Thanks for the link.

It seems to be something I need to do... NOT after having numerous large vodka and cokes though :). That's a tomorrow thing. Along with tinkering with the team. Again.

                    And again.

                    *sigh*
