Mikel Arteta has been ruled out of Arsenalโ€™s home game with Villa. Andre Villas-Boas is set to be without Gareth Bale for Spursโ€™ trip to Palace, where Jerome Thomas is sidelined for a couple of weeks for the hosts, Liverpool have good news on the defensive front and Southampton are still doubtful over Nathaniel Clyne and Luke Shaw.

Our team news section has been updated on the back of the latest press conferences and will be refreshed as today unfolds โ€“ keep an eye on this and our twitter feed ahead of what is set to be a hectic next 24-hours for Fantasy managers:

Arsene Wenger will head into tomorrowโ€™s match against Aston Villa without the influential Mikel Arteta. Speaking to the press in the last hour, the Gunners boss admitted he is uncertain when the Spaniard will return, though according to The Mail, the playmaker could be out for up to six weeks with the injury โ€“ potentially handing spot-kicks duties to Lukas Podolski and forcing Jack Wilshere into a deeper role alongside fit-again Aaron Ramsey in front of the back-four.

Although he ruled out the likes of Thomas Vermaelen, Nacho Monreal and Ryo Miyaichi, Wenger failed to mention Theo Walcott, Bacary Sagna or Santi Cazorla this morning. The first two had picked up minor problems on international duty, while Cazorla was late flying back from Spainโ€™s match in Ecuador amid worries of fatigue โ€“ Fantasy managers will be optimistic the trio are fine, then, though some confirmation would have gone a long way to easing our fears as we finalise our squads.

Elsewhere in north London, Andre Villas-Boas looks set to be without Gareth Bale for Tottenhamโ€™s trip to Crystal Palace on Sunday. The Welshman hasnโ€™t played for three weeks due to injury and, when asked whether he would be available to face Ian Hollowayโ€™s side, Villas-Boas replied:

“No, because he’s been out injured for most of pre-season. He was involved in the games against Brentford and Swindon but not any others, for different reasons; pulled a muscle in his gluteus that prevented him from being involved for two weeks and he’s been complaining of pain in the foot. I think the most natural thing is to see him not involved against Palace.”

With Bale out of the equation, itโ€™s possible that Gylfi Sigurdsson could tuck in behind Roberto Soldado, with Nacer Chadli on the left, if the visitors line up in a 4-2-3-1 formation, though the Belgian has also been fielded in โ€œthe holeโ€ during pre-season. Alternatively, Villas-Boas may opt for the 4-3-3 shape he preferred at Porto โ€“ a scenario that could see Paulinho as the most advanced central option, with Sandro, Mousa Dembele and new boy Etienne Capoue offering plenty dynamism in the middle of the park.

Brendan Rodgers has received some positive news ahead of Liverpoolโ€™s early kick-off with Stoke tomorrow. The Reds boss expects both Daniel Agger and Martin Skrtel to be fit to face the Potters, though while the Dane will return to the starting XI, Skrtel is likely to warm the bench โ€“ Kolo Toure is firmly ahead of the Slovakian in the pecking order and has started every pre-season friendly he has been available for.

Martin Jol will hand Alex Kacaniklic a late fitness test as Fulham make their way to Sunderland. The Cottagers boss has admitted Adel Taarabtโ€™s fitness is still an issue and with the Moroccan only likely to make the bench, Kacaniklic could be in line for a starting role on the left wing providing he gets the all clear after impressing in pre-season, according to his manager.

Southampton full-back pair Nathaniel Clyne and Luke Shaw both remain doubts for tomorrowโ€™s trip to West Brom. Speaking to the press yesterday, Mauricio Pochettino revealed the pair are making good progress:

“We’re very happy because Luke has responded well throughout the week. With one training session left tomorrow, I think he could be in the 18 players called up for the game against West Brom. Clyney has been recovering from a little niggle that he’s had since Austria. [His involvement] depends on the training session tomorrow but, if he’s not in the group for West Brom, he’ll be most probably available for the game after. “

Clyne pulled out of the midweek England Under 21 game against Scotland after being withdrawn in last weekendโ€™s friendly win over Real Sociedad, while Clyne has yet to feature over the summer. Pochettino may turn to Danny Fox and Callum Chambers in the event of any potential absence and the Saints boss also conceded he has yet to assess the fitness of Gaston Ramirez and Maya Yoshida, who both featured in the Japan v Uruguay friendly on Wednesday.

Michael Laudrup was awaiting the return of Wilfried Bony yesterday, after Swanseaโ€™s new forward turned out for Ivory Coast against Mexico in New Jersey in the early hours of Thursday morning. Laudrup โ€“ who will be without Jonathan de Guzman due to concussion โ€“ seemed far from happy with the situation as he prepares for tomorrow eveningโ€™s match against United:

“Bony will be back late on Thursday with jetlag, which is not great. To play for your country is great and the club should be proud of all our internationals, but having a friendly three days before the start of the season is strange. This is the last year when it will happen fortunately. That’s an intelligent decision.”

Ian Holloway handed Fantasy managers a heads-up after announcing Jerome Thomas is ruled out for two weeks with the ankle problem that saw him limp off against Lazio after just 22 minutes last weekend. Yannick Bolasie added to Palaceโ€™s boss with a hamstring injury that will keep him out โ€œfor some timeโ€, according to the Eagles boss. With his options on the flanks limited, Holloway could keep faith with Jonny Williams as an option out wide โ€“ fortunately, he comes in at 4.5 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL), the same price as Thomas, and looks secure for game time in light of yesterdayโ€™s news.

I have Murner, Collins, Shaw and Chester as cheap defenders with Toure.

Depends how cheap you want it but would suggest 3 of those.

Love the Negredo punt, considering him for GW2 myself. Just wonder if Lukaku, Neg and Lamps are punts too many. 2 at max would be ideal.

I'd really try to get a Chelsea def by possibly downgrading Silva. Two home games under Jose and most likely to play 180 mins - you know what that means!

That midfield looks tasty even without Silva as you could get Snoddy or Mirallas.

The current plan is Lampard and Lukaku to Mirallas and Lambert after the DGW, so I'm switching 2 players at Old Trafford to 2 with good home games. That leaves Negredo as a punt.

I get what you're saying about the defence, Ivanovic is tempting but its not the same defence he left behind. Villa score enough that I'm not confident about 2 cleanies. Even Hull could surprise us with a Danny Graham goal to induce rage across the site.

Mourinho defences are rock solid Milan and every single player is going to be determined to start with a bang.

If there was really another nailed-on attacking option like Hazard, it would be ok to go 3 attackers. It's just that both Lamps and Lukaku are both punts.

Have a think, don't want to be missing a trick.

    Hello ladies.

I'm looking for a nice 2 way rotation, with no promoted 4m scutbuckets allowed ๐Ÿ˜‰

Norwich/ Fulham ..I'm looking at Ambrosia etta / Turner

    or

    Saints/ Hammers.. Shaw/ Collins

TBH, I prefer the latter and I can get Shaw and Collins and don't need either for GW1.
But the Nor/ Ful pairing means I don't have any yellow flags for GW1.

Rest of defence is Mig(4) , Toure, Koscielny, Ivanovic. Ivan to be downgraded to a 4m scutbucket ( ๐Ÿ˜‰ ) in GW2

I would aim for Shaw/Collins. I'm starting Collins as I don't want to be mucking about with cheap defs early on and then seeing how it all goes.

Not from the start. Wait and see how this new manager sets them up.
He's a brilliant FPL defender, tho, is old Zabaleta. He'll be in there no doubt, at some stage. Definitely the best bet from Citeh defence. Don't think poor old Micah will get a look in.

Nothing. I had £1.5m in the bank before but realised i may not need it hence the upgrade from Collins/Reid > Zabaleta.

Will likely to Ivanovic > Debuchy next week which will fill the coffers a bit... and i may do Lukaku > Cisse also depending on how Newcastle look

          Really good.
That will do really well with good exit options for GW2 and 3.
Mine's very close to that. I have Toure instead of Zab. And Giroud instead of Soldado (with a view to getting Soldado GW2)

I also fancy Clichy to have a strong season this year. Kolarov seems to be more and more out of the picture and if City continue to play 2 up front then Silva will constantly move off his wing into central areas allowing Clichy to bomb forward. By contrast Navas will hog the wing where Zab likes to run into.

Salma feels confident with this lot.

    Mig Davis
    Cole Toure Chezzy Brayford Murner
    Haz Lamps Walc Snoddy Kim
    Soldado Benteke Studge

    Bank 0.5

For GW2, could either downgrade Lamps > Mirallas or upgrade Benteke > Negredo/Jovetic, depending on who's in the first team.

Any glaring errors? Walcott yellow-flag - should we be concerned?

Only thing I'm not sure of is Snoddy in that. Lewis could be handy as the 4m keeper in the unlikely event of him becomung 1st choice. Covers Mignolet's tough run from GW16 very well. Don't worry about Walcott.

Snoddy is in the grey zone for sure and I've succumbed to the fact that I will get six 2 pointers and four explosive weeks from him.

Nice one about Lewis. You reckon he won't drop? It was the genius idea of the Special One that Davis has so much ownership amongst that he's unlikely to drop and is second choice at Soton.

          You could:
          Boruc to 4m
Ivan to Terry (prefer Ivan though)
          Coleman to 4.5

But I don't think these moves that weaken the team are worth it when Benteke will also cost you an extra transfer.

Hey guys, so I've been playing about with my team and basically it comes down to this...

For me, the differences between the RVP team and the non RVP team are this:

    RVP, Dzeko, Snodgrass, Grandin

    OR

    Soldado, Sturridge, Silva, Kim

I think I prefer the balance and the upgrades I get going without RVP tbh...

Any thoughts on this or my team would be appreciated?

    Thanks

    Terry(vc) Toure M.Turner (Ward Chester)

    Mignolet, Rudd
Ivan, Coleman, M Turner, Collins, Chester
Hazard, J. Morrison Theo, Coutinho, Kim
    Soldado, Lukaku, Benteke

    0.5m in da bank.

    Thoughts are for gw2:

    Ivan > Zab

    and/or

    Lukaku > Giroud
    Benteke > Negredo

Either striker switch still leaves me 0.5m to do the other at a later date providing price changes don't feck me up. No matter what happens, I have options.

That's what I've seen in every RMT tonight... but all those teams don't seem to be planning for the future. I would much rather have the flexibility early in the season than the outright top scorers.

If Negredo starts strong then I can get him... as well as Giroud or anyone else I can think of as a good points scorer ('cept RVP). This team offer me options... which is important early season, imho.

Love the Morrison pick, I think he will prove to be brilliant value at 6m this year...

Tbh, I'd be more tempted to go with Silva and Sturridge over Coutinho and Benteke, but if anyone's gonna score for Villa it will be him... the main positive about having Benteke over having someone like Lukaku is that if he does score in the DGW, then you don't have to take him out straight away, you can play him v Pool... whereas regardless of how well Lukaku does, he will be transferred out immediately...

A bit of a moot point, but I favour having Lewis as my 4.0m keeper... the only reason being if he did somehow become No.1, he would cover Migs difficult fixtures in 16,18 and 19...

      Good team...

Is anyone else going with a big 8? eg

    Hazard, Walcott, Coutinho, Snodgrass, Mirallas,
    Soldado, JRod, Lukaku

There are two reasons why I've gone down this route. The main one is because I feel there is too much value to be had in the mid priced bracket and I feel these are guys who are likely to go up in price early on.

Secondly I think its too hard to find that amazingly good value 4.5/5m option from GW1. Rather it would be better to downgrade a player once we have had a few weeks to assess the budget options.

My plan is to downgrade Ivan and Hazard to a budget options in time for the blank so that I may have the funds to get RVP in time for GW4. With this strategy I will have a couple of weeks to scout the best 4.5/5m option and once I've found them I'll be likely to keep them hopefully till the January Wild Card.

Just been reading what the Crystal Palace forum thinks of Williams, who I know nothing about. While they seem to be overly optimistic as fans can be everyone on there rates him very highly which must count for something. There's a photo of him on one of the pages and I'd be concerned about how well a skinny 19 year old can cope with the PL which is echoed in the forum. He can play both centre mid and on the wing so will hopefully see decent minutes.

    Link is here http://www.cpfc.org/forums/showthread.php?t=240347

On the last page of the link one of the posters suggests he should start as their attacking mid though that seems to be his opinion rather than a lineup prediction.

Anyway, I feel more confident about having him as the 5th mid now.

Yeah seems to be a certain starter. I suppose any 19 year old who is believed to be a regular starter must be a pretty good player.

One to watch especially if he plays on the wing. Personally though I'm not sure I trust gambling on somebody I haven't seen play and no nothing about.

Went lurking on a Cardiff forum and noticed that people think Brayford did poorly in pre-season and lost the starting RB job.

BTurner or Connolly (.3% ownership) seem like better punts than my Declan John flyer (.6% ownership)...

BTurner plan feels too boring. John or Connolly? Hmmm... sleep on it.

Yeah that has been the con consensus on FFS as well. I remember being shouted down about questioning Brayfords nailed on-ness when he was first signed.

Oh man, can't believe you went Ivan and I went Cole after all that talk. Epic!

Just wondering with Luiz improved fitness, Ivan could face a rest in the 2nd game to keep him fit for United. But I'm considering going back to Ivano too as if Luiz is fit, its likely Terry will be rested.

Good call there. So hilarious that we switched!

See I heard Luiz is in bad shape, hence why I went for Ivan, thinking they wouldnt RISK Luiz before United.

              Definitely prefer Benteke over Luka

              1) If Benteke scores (or doesn't score), you'll keep him. If Luka scores, you've still got to think about getting him out. Torres is first choice.

              2) Also Benteke frees up a Chelsea DGW slot, which I'll gladly give to a punt on Sir Frank. Always in the mix for penalties and goals and atleast, he's first choice.

I wouldnt keep Bentke even if he scored! after this week he has Liverpool and a blank! I'd be getting rid for sure.

Is lamps really first choice? I feel like even if he makes it, he would be defensive, and also not on as many corners and frees even if he does play.

Are you sure Lampard would start both games? I would have thought Oscar has a better chance of starting both (can't see Oscar starting against United personally)

Lamps has as much chance as starting both as Oscar.

Oscar should play vs United, along with Mata and Haz. Could mean a rest in one. Lamps might not play United. Think Jose will unleash Van Ginkel (an unknown) on United in that game along with Mikel

Just think the penalties/set-pieces swings it for Lamps, no doubt he's a punt. Think he's going to start big.

Wouldn't be skeptic of the DGW.

Not much to lose out if the DGW doesn't go according to plan whilst you could lose out a lot if the DGW players come out well.

Need 3 Che for sure (and benteke if possible)

I'm not sure you need 3 chels. I'm kinda trying to get out of it. I just don't love having to get rid of all those players by week 3, even with hits.

You only need to get rid of 2 of them (if you have 4) or one of them (if you have 3). The upside is too much to ignore. This is really the best DGW one can hope for! Might be missing a trick without 3 Che, its only a matter of picking who the right 3 are.

Absolutely! Same to you. Here's what I have:

          Migs Davis
Ivan Toure Rat Chester Brayford (should this be Ward?)
          Hazard Walcott Mirallas Snoddy Kim
          Sturridge Soldado Lukaku

Lukaku/Snodgrass could be Anelka/Silva, or, no that I have seen your idea, maybe Lambert/Lampart (the Lam connection!)

          Also, team name choices:

          3 hour toure
          Chester? I barely know her
          Potato/Soldado

          they all suck, really

Brayford seems to be a doubt everywhere now with a few poor pre-season perofrmances. Considering letting him go for Ward too.

Rat - West Ham for 5.0? Not value enough Newman.

Considering M Turner-Chester-Ward. Good rotation looks like. What do you think?

Otherwise it looks good with Lukaku as your only punt. Got a strong gut feeling for Lamps, hence I've held him through every draft so far.

Do you have an entry plan to City (Negredo / Silva)? Hope you've got 0.5 in the bank

I like the second one the most hahahaha

Ward it is then. Sad...I really wanted a Cardiff 4.0.

I really want West Ham Coverage. Fixtures are amazing, and he gets forward a good bit. Most nailed on West Ham guy at 5.0.

i've considered Nurner....but I want West ham, if I can!

I think I may blatantly copy you with Lamps for Snoddy. If I do, who is the best striker under 8 mil? Lambert, surely?

I have 1.5 under the original plan. If I go Lambert/Lamps I will have .5 as well.

My plan is to drop Ivan for Mertesacker ASAP, giving me 1.5 in the back. Can easily get Negredo from there.

I was really hoping for Brayford, great lad at Derby.

Definitely prefer 2 Lambs over Luka + Mirallas/Snod

Wouldn't rush to get an Arsenal defender with Arteta still out and the NLD in gw3...you know what that means

                Think you're set.

Do you think I should go Negredo straightaway instead of Benteke?

Still don't see the value of a Hammer at 5.0 (you're only going to get a CS at home) unless he could get you some attacking points.

Collins at 4.5 would have been perfect if not for his injury doubt.

Yeah, I think I do! Him or Dzeko. (Or Lambert)

Wow, I forgot about Arteta. Defense isn't nearly as good without. Maybe I can get coleman in for Ivan and have a semi-cheapo defense. Well noted on Arteta!

If I do Anelka instead of Lambert up front, Ill have 2.5 in the bank and can do Lampard>silva right away. Do you like Anelka over Lambert first 4 weeks or so?

                  Team name selected:

                    Lambert over Anelka for sure.

Think one of the City strikers will explode and become pretty important to own very early in the season. Not sure if its worth the risk starting with one of them.

good point. I really don't see Benteke doing much in the first 4 weeks, which is why I kinda fancy a punt on a city striker, especially if I were you.

Only problem is, I think Aguero is the one to have.

i would have gone for a city striker if it was clearer who is in the first team

Aguero seems to be just turning over to match fitness, whilst Dzeko/Negredo have had a good pre-season. Jovetic hasn't got enough chances to judge him too.

You see the dilemma of getting them in gw1 and inevitably getting it wrong?

Of course! Thats why its silva or bust for me, right now. Looking bust now, with Lampard looking like a fun idea.

If I sell Ivan quickly I can make a move for a Negredo, or Silva.

If I have to do a hit GW 2 to go Ivan/Lamps to 5.0/Silva, I can do that, I suppose.

When I saw the price, Walcott was the #1 bargain I saw. I'll take him over Silva, hands down, no doubt. Arteta is good, but so is Wilshire, who will come in for Arteta probably. Hold fast with Walcott.

Hey, since I'm considering Lambert, maybe I'll just go with Dzeko. Granted, that makes two big punts with him and Lamps and 3 DGWers, but Dezko could go off even with very few minutes. Suicide?

Dzeko - Go for it. He's shown he could even come in as a sub and score a few. 2 punts is not too risky at this stage!

Walcott - Righto, I'll hold fire.

Down to the last few decisions. Considering a punt on Rat, but EL9 is kinda talking me out of it.

I'm bummed I missed it too. Not sure I'd have been able to devote the time needed, though.

So far its similar to yours

          Migs, Lewis

Ivan, Mertisacker, Coleman, M Turner, Chester
          Hazard, Walcott, Coutinho, Mirallas, Snodgrass
          Soldado, Dzeko, JRod

I'm keen to start with a big 8 and sell Hazard for the best budget mid in GW3. I'm a little bit worried about my lack of DGWers but at least I've saved a hit.

            Not sold on Toure, eh?

Yeah, I was thinking about going with only 2 DGWers as well. Lamps looks like a decent punt, though. You don't think you'll want Hazard after the blank?

Dzeko is a punt, but I get it. City's fixtures so good!

If the Dzeko punt works thats my GW3 captain sorted. Much bigger upside than Silva who imo is equally punty with regard to his likely returns.

I believe Liverpool will buy a new CB so for that reason I'm avoiding Toure and I'm also cautious about doubling up at the back.

I'm not sure I want another DGWer that will cost me a hit. Benteke is mildly tempting but yeah I'd rather avoid a Villa striker as it clashes with Ivanovic.

I am also avoiding Benteke, mainly because its such poor fictures, not just in the DGW, but after as well.

Good point on Dzeko.....maybe I'll take two punts with him and Lamps.

good good. I thought I had it all set, then the scout picks and Milanista's team have got me thinking.

scout picks making me consider Olsson over murner

and Milanista making me consider Silva/Coutinho + Burner/brayford over Mirallas + Coleman.

        what do you think?

and what does focus on longer term mean? only two dgwers? I just think that these chelsea fixtures are too prime to miss out on. huge potential to make up for any hits required later

Don't get Olsson he will be rotated and is only good for GW1. Mirallas is set to be a bargain this season so you'd want him in your team. Silva is still a little bit of a mystery. Stick to your guns imo.

kinda confused by your milanista quandry. Not sure which people are competing with who. I like Silva over Coutinho, No clue on Burer Brayford, and I just added Coleman because my Rat idea is apparently quite poor.

For Migs + Toure owners (especially those with a non-playing GK):

Can you really see Pool keeping more than 1 CS in the first 3? I sure can't.

Heck, I'm even captaining Benteke GW2.

I'd rather go for Migs + Reid/Coleman at the same price. West Ham and Everton's fixtures are very decent.

I need to have money in the bank, imo, ruling out chester>coleman

No interest in Lukaku or oscar. Thanks!

Sorry for the late reply. I'd be wary of Lampard despite what Elnino says. I doubt he will start two games in 3 days and I reckon one of the newbies could get a start against easier opposition. I'd expect Lampard to play against United.

I'd keep Murner over Coleman although the latter is reasonable value.

I think JRod is better value than Lambert so I'd stick with Dzeko

Yep Snoddy over Lampard for sure

you create a team gw 1 (second team) and after that you can't touch it. so you're stuck with the same 15 players, same starting xi, same bench order, captain, vc

inspired by ryan btw, he came up with a theoretical deadteam that would've won fpl last year but at least 100 points I think

collins out? murner a good backup, I suppose

I've gone on record not liking Benteke. Coleman is in and out of my team a lot. everything else makes sense to me.

i'm hoping he'll play. if not murner as a backup is fine by me

hmm why's that? and I think i'll be sticking to coleman. everton defense usually pretty solid and he has some attacking threat too

        cheers mate!
