The concern surrounding Nani’s leg injury are building. Today’s story in the Daily Mirror will have resonated throughout the Fantasy realm with over 46% of Fantasy Premier League Managers fidgeting at the prospect of the Portuguese trickster facing up to a month on the sidelines.
The Mirror’s scaremongering doesn’t carry too much substance to back it up, but states that the club doctors at Old Trafford have been unable to stitch the wound because it has swelled so much. The healing process is yet to begin then and United have been unable to offer a definite prognosis. Rumours that Nani’s own tears rubbed further salt into the wound are yet to be confirmed.
Fantasy Managers will be looking keenly at United’s schedule and hoping for a draw in this weekend’s FA Cup tie with Arsenal. If that game does go to a replay, then both will have their gameweek 30 fixtures postponed. That will mean that United will next play in the league on April 2 at Upton Park in gameweek 31. If Nani fails to return for that, then we can expect him to aim for the April 9 gameweek 32 encounter with Fulham at Old Trafford.
United have today stated that an official comment on Nani’s injury will come on Friday morning at Alex Ferguson’s usual 9.30 press conference. Regardless of that, Nani sales are continuing in earnest. Over 42,000 have now got rid in the gameweek with a price drop from 10.1 expected within the week.
Elsewhere in the United camp, Antonio Valencia is tipped to see some action against the Gunners on Saturday having been omitted from Tuesday’s reserve outing, although Untied have played this down in today’s official team news release.
Valencia’s return to the fray as a 7.8 prospect in the FPL will need careful monitoring. Valencia is a favourite of Alex Ferguson and his supply was sighted as key in Wayne Rooney’s 26-goal campaign last season. Valencia notched 5 goals and 9 assists last term but has been restricted to just 2 league appearances this season following an ankle injury.
