He’s well travelled. He’s multi-lingual. He’s just 19 points behind me. Despite my best start to a Fantasy Football season in living memory, Granville is right on my tail. In this latest episode of the ScoutCast, Granville takes delight in taunting me by wrapping his tongue around every “Pochettino” with ease, leaving me to struggle like Paul Merson with a mouth ulcer.

In between the mispronunciations, myself and the “cosmopolitan Manc” get heated about Robin Van Persie, rinse through the Gameweek 1 bandwagons, preview the weekend’s action and welcome the flying start made by this season’s ScoutCast team. It’s breathless stuff, squeezed into a low fat 40 minutes.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Any idea on which one of these looks the best?

    A. Hazard & Lukaku -> Silva & Dzeko (4 pointer)

    B. Hazard & Lukaku -> Ben Arfa & Soldado (4 pointer)

    C. Hazard & Lukaku -> Silva & Lambert (4 pointer)

    D. Lukaku -> Dzeko/Lambert (no hit)

    Also have Anelka so my squad is a bit of a mess. Now willing to wildcard this early though..

        agree. if youre taking a risk with a -4, you may as well stick that risk on likely high-scoring games with City

    Is triple City a bit too extreme?

    Already own Silva and I'm thinking of doing Koscielny & Hazard > Zabaleta & Navas.

    I have to downgrade Hazard to afford Zabaleta. Doesn't have to be Navas, but just considered it.

      It isn't too extreme giving the fixtures. Navas's lack of goals is a worry though for that price. I'd go for a city striker rather than a second midfielder..

        My attack -is- looking a bit thin now with the Anelka news. I was thinking of going 4-4-2 this week. To be honest I don't have to go triple City, as I can afford anyone up to 9.5 after dropping Hazard.

        For what it's worth here's my team;

        Mignolet
        Koscielny - Ivanovic - Coleman
        Silva - Walcott - Lampard - Hazard
        Giroud - Soldado - Anelka

        Subs - Davis - Kim - Clyne - Garrido

    Just a word on 'coverage': It seems to be a common conception that having your players spread out over several teams is better than having multiple players per team. Players should be selected and transferred based on many factors, e.g. form, price, fixtures, instinct, price change etc. All of these factors should boil down to one thing: maximizing your points potential - short, medium and long term. Not transferring in a player even though you think he is the best option, just because you already have 'coverage' for that team can only inhibit your points potential. Those players do not know what other players you have.

    I appreciate the argument for coverage is that it is safer, that if a team scores big then you will get a piece of the pie. By the same logic, selecting the players who should get the most points (even if it means doubling up or trebling up) means that you will get more points in the long run - the times you miss out on big scorelines (or the opposite for defenders) will be overtaken by the times you benefit by having multiple players from that team. And it is a long haul, - there are 418 instances of players getting you points each season. In my opinion, heeding coverage should only be used in the case of defending a not-narrow lead mini-league very near the end of a season.

    Move out Ivanovic for a hit? Team at the moment going into GW2 (Bank = £0.5m):

    Mignolet(avl)
    Shaw(SUN) Zabaleta(car) Ivanovic(mun)
    Walcott(ful) Mirallas(WBA) Hazard(mun) Coutinho(avl)
    Soldado(SWA) Dzeko(car) Lambert(SUN)

    subs - Lewis, Chester, MTurner, Morrison

    Play that lot of take the -4 and sell Ivan? I guess Coleman is the obvious candidate to come in although i could start Chester(NOR) this weekend and get Collins in to rotate with Shaw?

          It's a tough one.

          I really can't see Chelsea keeping RVP and co out so in CS terms Chester wins for me. But with Ivan's goal threat, I think I'd struggle to bench him.

          If it was me I'd probs play Ivan, mostly coz I'd be more annoyed with myself if I left him on the bench and he scored than if I benched a Hull defender!

    3 x Chelsea starting this week. It seems remiss not to go for it, 2 for 2 and Mourinhio at the helm once more. Plus I splashed out £22m on them, so better to cash them in while I own them. This is what I'm thinking.

    The three are Terry, Ramires, Hazard. Bench options are Joey O'Brien, Kim and Moxey.

          Sorry that's not what I meant. I would just reduce my coverage from 3 to 2 Chelsea to give you another scoring opportunity, Playing Hazard and Ivan myself.
          And I also meant I do fancy all 3 chelsea players over your bench 😉

            As I thought. Joey O'Brien is tempting ahead of Terry, but I'll give terry he's shot I think. He'll be well up for it.

    SVGCR posted on last page a reply he got re Hazard assist... There is a very important line in it which rightly shows there is no difference between a 'normal' and an OG..

    After reviewing this, a goal was scored from the rebound of Hazard's shot, this is deemed an assist and Hazard has been awarded three points. Note that the rebound scored does not necessarily have to be on the same team as the initial shooter.

      Glad there is clarification, even if it's just for that particular part of the rule. Also I see the BPS has been changed back on the games and now reflects what it did when the bonus was allocated.

      I won't get into the semantics of this but he deserved the assist, the shot was goal-bound anyway.

        It was quite simple really.. the rules clearly stated that it would be an assist if an attacker had followed up but had no info about if it was an OG.. The reply shows there is no difference

    I am looking for the player Ben Broadhurst with the team "The Flying Bananas" Team value is 100.6M with an active WC. Curious to see and hear exactly why someone would use their WC to jump on a band of bandwagons.

          I see, I can understand over a period of gameweeks maybe using a FT or taking a -4pt hit every now and then to "play the market" but a WC after GW1 seems strange. Guess i will have to wait till the end of May to see how it played out......:P

      It's easy to get every riser once GW1 is locked in. 0.1 are useless though. Selling value is more important.

      Yeah, being a close follower of the Bundesliga, I rated him very highly. Can't believe how his talent is being wasted there right now. You just have to give him the game time and he will come through.

      It's such a waste of talent. If I were him, I would consider my future, especially when a 39yr old is getting into the team. Apparently, for Japanese footballers, it's a dream come true to play for Man Utd.

    Consensus was that I'm at the very least too hasty (possibly an idiot) for taking a 12 point hit for this team. However, I'm seeing some WC teams with the same names, give or take one or two. To me, 12 points is less painful than a WC used too early.

    Guess it depends how many points equals a WC.

    GW2:
    Boruc (Mignolet)
    Coleman Zabaleta Shaw (Reid, Chester)
    Hazard Walcott Mirallas Snodgrass (Kim)
    Soldado Giroud Sturridge

    I substituted:

    Kos to Coleman
    Ivan to Zabaleta
    Olsson to Shaw
    Lukaku to Sturridge

      terry to coleman
      morrison to barkley
      ward to shaw
      lukaku to lambert

      -12

      It's a slight punt that one of those or a combo will not reap at least 12 points
      I'm a cash monkey though, I like to splash out at xmas to get whoever I want with my 111 mil

      your wc is not for gw2
