He’s well travelled. He’s multi-lingual. He’s just 19 points behind me. Despite my best start to a Fantasy Football season in living memory, Granville is right on my tail. In this latest episode of the ScoutCast, Granville takes delight in taunting me by wrapping his tongue around every “Pochettino” with ease, leaving me to struggle like Paul Merson with a mouth ulcer.

In between the mispronunciations, myself and the “cosmopolitan Manc” get heated about Robin Van Persie, rinse through the Gameweek 1 bandwagons, preview the weekend’s action and welcome the flying start made by this season’s ScoutCast team. It’s breathless stuff, squeezed into a low fat 40 minutes.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Yeah, it was a good game 😀 Amazing goal by David Villa, I am still bummed we let him go...would have loved to see Messi - Neymar - Villa front 3, especially in a WC year. He is going to have a great season, I can see him scoring 20+ league goals.

yeah i've only seen the goals. that was an amazing goal!

i'm bummed we let him go too but at the same time I knew it was coming and I think it's a move he deserves. a striker of his quality should be starting every week and starting up top, not out on the wing. would've loved to see him in the EPL though. yeah he'll have a great season! I'd put him in the top 5 goal scorers in La Liga for sure (messi, ronaldo, benzema/suarez, neymar the only ones that could be ahead of him imo)

and yeah that would be a great front three but I think messi neymar pedro can be just as good! pedro has shown his class for Spain in the past year and hopefully he'll show more of that eye for goal. with sanchez and tello as other options on the wing it's looking good

I find it interesting that cesc is the preferred messi replacement up top still. I would've thought to put neymar central and tello out wide perhaps

I think Cesc assisted like 3 of the 7 goals in the first game? He has been incredible, very quick off the mark, he is awesome in that 'false 9' position. It will be an exciting season ahead 🙂

gotcha. I couldn't get any online streams to work properly for that first game so didn't get to watch it 🙁 but you could be right. in that case, why do we need messi if we have cesc! 😉

yeah should be a very exciting season. especially since madrid will have added isco, bale, and maybe suarez while we've added neymar, not to mention a new coach in charge of each club. looking forward to it!

now if only we could sign a fecking center back already! us signing a CB is worse than arsenal signing big names 😆

People say they feel safe with RvP... I feel safe with out him.. made a team with rvp originally.. tried many times and all i could have was a shitty team with Rvp.

so much safer with benteke, sturridge, soldado, coutinho, silva, nolan, mirallas all comftorbly in my team atm... and i have 2 mill to spare. but anyway goodluck to all rvp owners... dont really know how you do it!

      Elnine I have returned.

I think, if youre in no hurry for City coverage, then yes, saving the FT makes sense. If I were you, I would want to get on the city train earlier rather than later.

The good hting about this week is, you didn't really miss any of the big hauls except for Coleman (who I know you don't fancy) so you aren't really wanting anything you're missing. Sadly, I missed coleman and Benteke, making me slightly more desperate.

So yeah, saving the transfer for you makes a lot of sense if youre ok continuing with no city.

For me though....I just don't know. I mean, I know I am getting rid of 2/3 Chelsea players, why would I hold on for United away?

I know I really shouldn't be complaining but I fancied Silva instead of Walcott (think I might have mentioned to you and Isacki), so Haz > Silva makes sense but then....your statement regarding Silva comes to mind "If I get Silva, it feels like I'd be getting him just for the purpose of City coverage" I still think this is valid as a City striker spot is where the points are going to come from in that attack.

You aren't worried about RVP/Rooney/Kagawa/Aguero hitting form?

Kagawa not really. So easy to get him at any time.

I'm convinced Rooney isn't leaving, and rooney at united isn't worth it.

Aguero is the one I kinda want, but I have Dzeko so that's the horse I have backed.

RVP.......yeah, sure I wish I had him. But I decided before the season that, for now at least, I'd rather have both Soldado and Sturridge, and the ability to have Benteke as the third guy if necessary.

So not worried about Rooney or Kagawa. Plenty worried about Aguero and RVP, but I've made up my mind.

Silva scoring at the weened makes me rethink that he is just coverage. I think he is pretty nailed on, and getting forward more than last year. I think he could be a steal at 9 mil.

          REAAAAAAALLLY thinking Haz>silva now.

Hehe I don't know Newman, it might just be the after effects of owning Silva last season and failing. The points are going to be spread out in that City attack nevertheless, so you can't go too wrong I suppose. Think the FPL bonus system doesn't reward assist magnets like Silva anymore, would rather have Michu long term methinks.

United and Chelsea have loads of goals in them, any of the options could strike hot this week including Haz and Mata. Monday night football too.

Thinking Ivan > Zaba might be more worth it now. Thoughts?

Werent you the one who thought Ivan was a season keeper? Certainly makes a lot of sense, offensively.

I am all about Zabs, for sure. Was mostly considering coleman for Ivan, but City defense should do well. It would give me some security for my defense, which does worry me quite a bit, now that I ended up without coleman and with a norwich defnder. (argh)

Not a bad idea. I guess I'm just super unhappy with Hazard. Didn't look too great against Villa other than one good moment.

Reg Hazard, it might be a false alarm and I may be wrong. His quality is unquestionable so I wonder whether the occasion might bring out the best in him. Don't want to get the biggest decision in the season wrong man, the season might depend on which Chelsea mid you end up getting at different spells.

Waiting for Nastasic news too. You reckon if Pelle says he's fit to start, better to go for him over Zaba?

Are they bench fodder or part of a rotation?

Watched Chelsea v Hull...thought Brady was lively. However, Hull won't score many this year...will eke out one and two goal wins at most. The personnel just isn't there to score big.

I'd opt for a 4.5 player that's guaranteed 90 minutes. Jedinak, Cabral, etc.

What's the likelihood that your 4.5 or 5.0 hits a goal or assist when you play them? Their historical stats don't support much offensive output ... Go with a 4.5 that's guaranteed 2 pts for 90 minutes and spend the .5 somewhere more productive. Or do whatever you're gut is saying, that's what I'd do.

If you really want to bring rvp in, why wait? Not many can bring in rvp with only a -4. Depending on who the 6.5 mid is (Snod?) the hit could pay for itself. Also, you'll avoid anothe Lukaku price fall (will happen before the deadline)
But I applaud your will to avoid hits! It's just not always warranted.

            You sure GW4 without RVP?

If you opt for a non-RVP team, you may need several options for captain depends on the fixture. As such, Benteke, Sturridge & Soldado will be better than Lambert & Dzeko.

About Mirallas, give him 2 more games, you may then revert your view.

Mignolet is OK, but Liverpool defense is not particularly great. I think two $4.5 nail-on GK (Boruc + someone) is a better option. Also, at some point, you may want Toure + Coutinho + Sturridge, and you may not want Mignolet to take up a spot.

      A) Mourinho has no faith in lukaku so transfer him out before further price fall
B)Thinking back about last hattrick with utd in gw38 mourinho saved lukaku for gw3

This is how I see it:

The United game is very important for Chelsea to win. Therefore, Mourinho will be wanting to start his most experienced players.

Lukaku will be a great sub option in case Chelsea falls behind a goal, as his explosive presence might earn an equalizer and shift the balance back towards Chelsea.

It's just my opinion and what I feel is more likely to happen.

Put it this way, if you don't have Lukaku yourself, will you be fear that others having him in their teams? If comparing to someone has Aguero, Dzeko, Sturridge or Soldado in their team, will you feel more worried? He may make a magic Vs MU, but the chance is slimmer than other big hitters.

Adding a blank GW3, and everyone knows Lukaku won't be nail-on in near future, what's the point to hold him when he is playing Vs MU?

However, don't let price drop affects too much of your decision. For me I won't sell a player who will have a high possibility to score me really big in the coming GW. I think the key is, if you truly think Lukaku score a hat-trick being higher possible than most other strikers mentioned above, keep him this GW!

Congratulate you to have a pretty good GW1, but you mean your high score affect your decision over Lukaku? Don't get it.

If you want both good points and good team value, you should definitely sell Lukaku. His price will drop further for sure, while other striker options will help both categories.

I think that including scorer and clean sheet odds from paddypower (or whomever) is a brilliant idea.
I don't have interest in placing any bets, and FFS should feel at least a little bit ashamed for promoting gambling, but the odds themselves are an interesting piece of information for FPL.
Bookmakers, successful ones at least, need to present realistic odds in order to make money. They should be deriving the odds in an objective and analytical way, so should be less subject to the inherent biases that we all have.
Time will tell if this info is just more noise, but I'm optimistic.

More noise ... and more info. They don't put out odds based on realistic likelihood of something happening, but based on their calculations of what number is required to get people to bet equally for and against something so that they make the most money while risking the least.

In American throwball the pointspread is always shifted one way or another when one team is a big fan favorite, because bookies know the fans will bet on their favorite team, even sacrificing a bit in the point spread category if they have to, in order to bet on their team.

Same principles with bookmaking everywhere, just different mechanisms for laying off the risks.

Totally agree, i have made loads backing whoever Liverpool is playing. As im in Asia and a lot of people just lump the money on their favourite team without a care about the odds.

Agree to a certain extent, but the odds given are quite a good general reflection of the most likely scenarios. Paddys had city least likely to concede and Aguero most likely to score. No one here would argue with this. Fan favouritism maybe slightly alters the odds, but not in any great way and they still prove to be a great indicator of the up and coming games.

Oh, don't get me wrong... I'm not at all saying that they are useless. They can definitely guide you in situations where you have no clue, but you just have to remember that that factor is indeed in play and remember that you can't really substitute book odds exactly for true projected probabilities.

it very tricky , but if i had the confidence to buy RVP from the start i would have to captain him .Otherwise why bother having him at all

Bother having him because you found a team that work with having him without having to sacrifice too much else. If most others in your minileague don't have him in their squads, then he is already a differential and is earning you points over the others. If RVP has a tough fixture and somebody else in your squad has tastier matchup... or especially if it is a more commonly owned player that has the tasty matchup, you may lose ground to your minileague because they captained the common player with good fixtures while you only got single points and you decided to captain RVP in tougher match and he only delivered you 2x2. He did it enough times to me last year to speak from experience. Even once can be critical.

Have both and I'm waffling. Just saw what RVP can do. Just saw what Soldude can do. Slight lean towards the Soldude to abide over Swansea.

To me it comes down to the lesser quality of Swansea's defense when compared to Chelsea's defense, that's all. I hope they both light it up, frankly.

RVP for me... I have Sturridge, Wally, Hazard, Silva, Bony, Coutinho to choose from but the Dutch is fixture proof and won't disappoint so it's him 🙂

Manciini i'm back, call got longer than expected

Why Nasty over Zaba? Just thinking out loud.

The "bonus favours CB theory" and the 0.6 with flexibility to switch to Arsenal def.

No competition yet and people reckon he'll be nailed on even when Richards returns in a few weeks. Always skeptical when it comes to City.

      Thoughts?

Nasty has got basically zero attacking potential and Zaba was VERY attacking against Newcastle. Pellegrini has promised a more offensive approach this season so I'm pretty sure Zaba will get quite a few assists and maybe even some goals.

Elnine: Do we WANT an arsenal defender anymore, after that display against Villa? Not so sure, now.

I see your point on Nasty, but I really think Zaba is more nailed on. He is just so versatile.

But it does make me just hesitant enough to consider waiting. I am now thinking Haz>Silva is better than Ivan>Zabs. At least until we know the best way into the city defense. I just need some stability now that it looks like Norwich's defense is bad news.
